  1. Update: My daughter and I went to Atlanta for her appointment and I was told that they probebly wouldnt be able to do mine on that day but to come back around 2:30 and I might have a chance. So we waited and went back at 2:15 . After waiting till all of the 3:00 appt were over I was able to go in and get mine done YIPPEE I was so happy. Then Low and behold two days later my NOA for extending my resident status arrived in the mail. Im soooo happy that I didnt have to make another trip to Atlanta to get my passport stamped. So now the wait is on but Im a happy camper.

  2. Interesting - the only other recently received NOA from applications submitted to TSC has also been for a derivative application based upon a parent. In the other case the parent has not yet received an NOA. There is a definite problem with NOAs being sent for applications submitted to TSC. How soon are the green cards due to expire? You can mention that you have not received your NOA when you go for your biometrics appointment and see if someone there is able to give you the I-551 stamp or not. They do have an I-90 processing center at the Atlanta ASC (application support center), so it is a possibility - I just don't know how high a possibility to get the stamp at the same time as the biometrics.

If they are not able to give you the stamp in your passport at the biometrics appointment, you will need to make an INFOPASS appointment with the main USCIS offices in Atlanta. I just had my passport stamped at my INFOPASS appointment this last Wednesday - it was absolutely easy - they knew exactly how to handle the no NOA extension letter situation - I didn't even have to ask for the stamp - they automatically gave it. So, one way or annother - either at the ASC for the biometrics or at the USCIS office through an INFOPASS appointment, definitely get the stamp in your passport. I suspect your daughter got one because the process for a derivative green card has some sort of difference that seems to generate the NOA where the main process doesn't.

    Good luck.

Thanks for the info Kathryn, Still no NOA for me yet and my daughters Biometrics appointment was schedualled for May 20, three days before mine. I call Uscis and the very nice woman said to take my appointment letter with us and they should be able to do mine at the same time (saving me a trip 3 days later.) I asked why I hadnt gotten the extention letter and she couldnt say why but told me to make an info pass appointment and get the stamp. So I guess Ill have to make another trip down for that. I have to go back to Canada in July which is when the green card expires so I guess I need to get the stamp. Is there a fee for the infopass appt or for the stamp? My case has been tranfered to Vermont and NOA's were suppose to have been sent for those too but we havnt got them either. So I dont know whats going on, we havnt moved nor have we ever had missing mail. Oh well at least Im here with my honey :D(L):D

  3. Hi everyone, quick question We sent the I751 Petition to remove conditions for myself and my daugher April 16/08. The check was cahed on April 23, according to the website our case was tranfered to Vermont from Texas. Today I got a biometrics appointment letter for May 23/08 but not an extention letter. My daughter got an extention letter which says her biometric appointment letter will come soon. Does this mean I need to go and get my passport stamped? Why did my daughter get one and I didnt? and last, can I get the stamp when I get the biometrics done, at the same place? we have to go to Atlanta for the biometrics. Any advice to this would be appreciated. Thanks

  4. Hi , I moved to Georgia fron Sault Ste Marie in Dec 05 on a K1. The POE has been redone and is easy to go through, not much traffic. The officers are very friendly but not very knowledgable so they spend a lot of time looking up proceedures in thier little black books. I have never had a problem going through and I have never heard of them closing for bad weather, It just takes a bit longer when your using your visa for the first time. As for the roads I75 is not too bad in the winter I would rather be on an interstate then a little highway in a snowstorm. PM me if you have any questions. Good Luck

  5. I have a 2005 Hyundai Tuscon that I was planning on selling next spring before moving to the US. However, if I don't sell it, I was going to get my cousin to drive it down for me a few weeks after I move.

The truck will be over 2 years old by then, does that mean I won't have to pay duty? Also, because it might be my cousin driving it through POE and not me, can I simply deal with all the registration and ownership stuff locally later when I get my truck. Oh ya, it will be paid off too cause I am aware you can 't bring a vehicle over with a car lien.

In Dec 05 I brought over my 2001 sunfire when I moved to the US. It was easy to do. You can call vintage vehicle Services at 1800-467-6853 give them 80$ on visa and your vin # of the car and they will fax you a report that it meets the DOT and saftey standards. They will then send you a copy in the mail. You need this copy when you cross the border. At the border they will ask you the value of the car. Tell them Low$ as this is the price that the state will claim taxes on. If you go to Georgia like me there is no tax!!! didnt pay anything but 20$ for my plates! Anyway you need to show the tag and title office a copy of the letter from the VVS in order to get your new plates and title. By the way you may need to redo your drivers test. I had to0 in Georgia, the written and the drivers exam. Good Luck

  6. after many talks with my ex, he is willing and ready to give me sole custody of our daughters. Visitation/child support agreements would stay the same. We've always had joint custody of the girls, and it was joint at the time the divorce went through. My question is this, can we have an amendment to the separation agreement drafted and signed, would that be enough? Or must we go through the courts to do something we are both in perfect agreement on? We're both in ontario for the time being. If we are able to just draft an amendment we plan on putting in his consent for me to move with the children (will still have a notarized letter to that effect) and new plans for arranging visitation.

Hmm .. From what i understand if you and your ex share custody of the children all that is required is consent .. and you don't 'have' to have sole custody. If you do have sole custody you don't need consent ... unless the agreement lays out visitation .. if that was the case you would still need the consent .. an amendment signed and notarized would be just fine i think .. I have heard through the grapevine that Vancouver consulate has a certain form they want the other parent to sign... My experience in Vancouver last week was simple ... the man doing my interview looked @ my divorce order and said .. ok you have custody of the children and that was it no other questions @ all ... but i have really no idea about Montreal ... If i were in your shoes and wanting to know exactly what your consulate specifically will require i would call or email them and find out the details. Sorry i can't help you more :star:

I agree with this. You dont need sole custody of the children. My ex and I have joint custody and all I needed was a noterized letter from him stating that he is in agreement that the children will be moving out of the country. With that , thier passports and birthcertificates will be all you need for them. Good Luck

  7. Well hubby , daughter and I just returned from a 3 hour round trip to Atlanta which was a total waste of time. For those following our story we recieved our green card about three weeks after being tranfered to CSC which was great but we had also recieved interview notices for Atlanta dated for today. I had called the 1-800# 4 times to ask if we still needed to go to the interview and 2 people told me I had to go while the other 2 told me not to go, so we decided to go and when we got there we waited for an hour for our names to be called. Then some guy came out and sat at the table in the front of the room so I went to talk to him, showed him our green cards and he took them in the back and told me he would check on it for me. He came out with an immigration officer that said " This is your decision, you have been approved and you dont need to be here so have a nice day you can go" and he handed back the cards. Smiling I said thankyou and we left. Happy that we didnt need the interview but kind of pissed that we drove down for nothing, hubby missed a day of work and daughter missed a day of school and I have spent the last two weeks making a tonne of copies of everything we would have needed for the interview. It sure would have been nice if the people at the 1800 # could have got their stories straight and saved me all this aggravation. Oh well, alls well that ends well and we are grateful for the card. Good luck to those still waiting and by the way I snuck through without getting the Vaccination suppliment. I just wrote a letter with the I-485 application saying that It must have been in the envelope I gave at the point of entry and I never got a RFE and since I didnt have the interview It worked for me. Although I know that some people do get RFEd for it so I dont advise taking the chance. Any way thats my story see you all in a year and a half :D Lara

  8. Makes no sense to me, you already have your green cards, so that's just nonsense. If it were me, I'd make an infopass appointment to get everything straightened out.

Thanks Jenn but our interview is only 16 days away so I will wait till then I would hate to drive to Atlanta twice and have hubby miss 2 days of work. I feel like im on a rollar coaster happy and mad, happy and mad

It should be over soon at least for 2 years

  9. Ok this is getting ridiculus My daughter and I both recieved our green cards this week even though they are telling us that we have to still go to our interview in Atlanta on Sept 11. now today we got emails saying this. "On August 25, 2006, we transferred your I485 Application to Register

Permanent Residence or to Adjust Status to an office in MISSOURI SERVICE

CENTER for processing. That office has jurisdiction over the case. They

will send you a written decision as soon as processing is complete. You

should receive a notice informing you that your case has been

transferred to a local office. " What is going on!! this is driving me crazzzzzzy.UGHHH

  10. Well yesterday I got the Green card in the mail I was so relieved. Unfortunatly my daughters didnt come and there were no emails that hers was sent. (I was emailed yesterday that my card was mailed on the 19.) I was wondering if there is a few days delay of the K2 after the K1 (she has been approved and welcome letter recieved) Can anyone that applied for a K1 and K2 at the same time answer this. Thankyou and good luck and best wishes to all that are still waiting.

P.S. I called the CSC for a third time as to whether we still needed to go to the interview Sept 11 even if we had our Green cards in hand and the answer was YES go to the interview even though there was a mix up as there is no way of contacting the Atlanta office to tell them we were approved.

  11. Thanks everyone for the input and yes I am celebrating. If I do make an infopass does my husband need to be there? Im just trying to avoid having him take a day off work and having to take my daughter out of highschool (she's been approved also K2). I would just hate to go to the interview which is an hour and a half away and have them miss work and school for the officers to say that I wasted my time going. Do you need an appointment for info pass? How does it work? thanks again Lara

  12. Hi to all in VJ land I have a dilemma that just gets more confusing by the day. In early july we were tranfered to CSC from Atlanta. On July 24 Atlanta sent me an interview notice for Sept 11. On July 28 we recieved a notice from Cali that Our case had been approved and a welcome notice was sent. We recieved that notice a few days later. On Aug 8 we recieved an email that the case was approved and that an Approval notice was mailed. We didnt receive that but I assume that an approval notice and the welcome letter are 1 in the same so really we did get it, so I called NCSC as to whether I needed to go to the interview. I was told that there was a nationwide error that sent interview letters to people already approved and that I didnt need to go to the interview and that we were indeed approved. So I sat on this for awhile thinking ok I dont need to go but then I thought I had better call again and make sure that I recieved the right information not wanting to miss the interview because of false info. So yesterday I called them again and was told that I had to go to the interview as all marriage based visas require an interview ( which I know is false info) she also told me that yes I was approved but they wouldnt order my card until after the interview. so I figured I now I have go to the interview. Well Today I recieved 6 emails from USCIS saying" On AUgust 17, 2006, after approving your application, we ordered you a new card. Your card will be mailed as soon as it is ready." What the heck is going on ,do I go to the interview even after I have my green card in hand? And why cant the people inthe NCSC agree on the same issue. Do I call again and get a third opinion. And last but not least why isnt there a phone # for the Atlanta office. Sorry this post is so long but I really needed to vent. Any input would be greatly apprieciated. Lara

  13. Congrats Leah,

Im glad it went well for you. So you think I should go to the interview anyway or did they give you any indication that it was a screwup on thier part and that you didnt need to go. I know that it will be no big deal to go but its an hour and a half drive and I would have to pull my daughter out of school and hubby will have to miss a day of work. Does anyone have the phone number of the Atlanta office so that I could call and ask them myself before driving there for 3 minutes  Thanks lara
