Generally you should not book an appointment until your file reaches the embassy and they send you the information in 'packet 3' or whatever it might be called these days. That being said, we 'just' got a file expedited through NVC, (sent directly to the embassy once through the whole USCIS mess immediate relatives have to battle). this past fall for a minor child of a US citizen.
And the interview was scheduled 7 days after we got that notice.
There were no openings for a medical prior to the interview appointment so we called to check whether we should reschedule the interview, or show up and then send over the medical packet once we had it in hand. The Embassy wanted the child to still attend her scheduled interview so she did and her medical was done the next day.
The Stockholm Embassy is efficient.

Now, her medical info didn't get sent over by the Dr's office to the embassy for another 2½ weeks after that. That's a 15 minute bus ride... and we'd have loved to just hand deliver the envelope. So the Dr's office (the one in Stockholm...) gets a D- 'You had one job'. *snicker*

11 years ago they typically scheduled a K1 interview a month after you returned the checklist that you've gathered the info needed, utdrag ur brottsregistret, vaccination info etc. No idea on how it's changed since then.

First off: If you send originals, they will be returned to you at the interview.
Since some NVC minions can't seem to flip a paper, some people who send originals where the official seal is on the back, get RFE'd (insanity) because the seal isn't visible at first glance.

So if you do send originals, make sure to also send copies. Suspenders and a belt. It saves them a trip to the photo copyer I guess.

If you send only copies, you will be asked to bring the originals to the Visa interview at the embassy. That works too.

The Stockholm embassy is great to deal with in my experience. Good luck!

Another November filer here, NOA1 date of November 25, also going through Vermont.
I'm just ecstatic that we can finally file, after getting my daughter's fathers permission. It's been a long 9 year wait, dwarfing anything the USCIS is likely to throw at us (I didn't just jinx it, did I?).
Guess it's never too early to polish up the affidavit of support, even if we'll need 2013 years tax return =D

I am a permanent resident of 9 years, and arrived on a K1 visa.

My child was mentioned in the 129F but at that time we did not apply for a K2.

Now the child (under the age of 15) would like to move here and I was wondering about the smoothest way to go about this.

* Is the 129F still valid (I would guess it's about 8 years expired) or would the I-824 be a waste of time and money?

* I-130 filed by USC step parent? and what would be the difference from I-130 filed by Permanent resident parent?

* Permanent resident parent filing for citizenship first?

We both live in this house so we both do domestic stuff, it's that simple.

He goes to work and gets a break from the kids, get to go to the bathroom alone, gets to have lunch without being interrupted to take someone to the bathroom, and is only being nagged by people above the age of 21.

I take care of the trolls and if I happen to throw in a load of laundry during the day that's nice but if I don't have time, simply don't feel like it or have other things to do there's always time later and someone to do the boring stuff _with_. It's amazing how much less boring it can be to fold laundry (is there anything more boring?!?) if you have someone to goof off with while doing it.

It may seem like we're living in a very traditional and conservative way, the husband going to work and the wife staying home with the offspring. The truth is that we're probably more equal than most when it comes to shared responsibility for our shared life.

I take it for granted that as a grown up, intelligent person he can do whatever I can do and THAT HE DOES IT when it's needed. He's doing a great job starting a cleaning session and gets everyone involved in it, just as he's great at changing diapers and kissing bo-bo's to make them better. Same thing for me, I change the oil in the mower and I use powertools and dig trenches. I actually like doing these things more than he does and so I do them more often than he does, though he is asked to help if there's something I can't reach or if I'm not strong enough. Then he feels all special and extra manly

Why would it be trickier to figure out how the washer works than to figure out a TV setup?

Two piece, preferably a halterneck.

Buying the perfect bikini truly is a chore though. I need specified cup sizes, no S, M L BS where the cup size and the overall size of the piece go hand in hand, I'm not made that way. I got lingerie for-me-for-hubby last Xmas, and just like most bathing suits lingerie generally comes in moronic sizes from extra small to extra extra large. Fun to buy something new and expensive 3 sizes bigger than you actually need and then have to get the sewing machine out and take it in several inches everywhere just so the boobs will fit *growl* The sales people at Victoria's Secret suggested getting a size inbetween so nothing would fit right. Great... *grrr* :angry:

And I like under wires and NO PADDING, padding makes me feel Dolly Partonesque'r than normal and I makes me slouch and feel very uncomfortable.

While we don't have any furniture from IKEA (brings back memories of dorm life and wet 'put furniture together and see how many spare pieces we end up with in the end' parties, I never miss a visit to the candy section in the food shop... Mmm-arabou! =D

I used to bike a lot more before i moved to the US. Now I do 5 miles about 4 times a week just to exercise the dogs. Because I'm LAZY.

I'm not the stereotypical pale Swede, at all, and I rarely use sunscreen. When it happens (because I feel I should since it's the right thing to do even if I don't sunburn) I just use what's at home which means the kids' waterproof spf 50 :lol:

I'm very meticulous with the kids' sunscreen though since they're all very fair.

Apparently (so I hear) there isn't a lot of suffering with Downs? Those children are actually pretty happy people, and delightful to have in the family?

My SIL has Downs and is lucky enough to not have any heart problem that can go hand in hand with the extra chromosome. She does have problems with her thyroid and has got some extra weight on her, she's slightly OCD (but who isn't ) and while she still needs some help structuring things up, like with shopping and planning, at 22 she's finished school, has a job and she can pretty much live her life the way she wants to. Which in her case consists of swimming, horseback riding, playing basketball, watching a lot of movies, talking about her boyfriend and having a thing for Backstreet Boys :lol:

I wouldn't consider her quality of life sub anything.

First off: You get A LOT of false positives on the blood and that's why many doctors don't recomend it if a couple have stated that they will not terminate the pregnancy no matter what.

And second: Even with an amnio there's no guarantee that the child will be born healthy. You will find out if it has spina bifida, any of the trisomies and a few other genetical things, but there's a many other things that can be wrong. So from a "it will give me peace of mind" perspective I think it gives a false sense of security.

Pregnancy is worrying time, but also a time full of hopes and dreams.

And the fact that many brides-to-be DIET to fit in a smaller than their normal size dress for their wedding day doesn't count? The poor bridezillas' bodies clearly go into starvation mode and once the whole wedding buisiness is done the pounds come back (and then some) and the hair comes off.

Seriously, I think it's very easy to slip into comfortable mode when you feel loved and secure in a relationship. This isn't BAD in itself, actually I think it sounds quite healthy. This doesn't mean that you should stop taking care of yourself, excercise wise, or stop trying to look nice for your partner though.

Being agnostic I think it's none of my buisiness what my children choose to believe in, if at all. I just hope they'll make up their OWN minds where they stand and not buy into other people's arguments out of convenience.

I feel the same way about my husband's beliefs (he's a christian who doesn't care for organized services) although I don't understand why he believes what he does because it doesn't make sense to me .

I will make sure my children knows about the major religions out there, and most importantly that people believe in different things and that's fine as long as you don't impose your beliefs on others. Religion is a big part of some peoples lives, and it having a clue about it can be good to get an understanding of other peoples' customs and culture.

I knew Stockholm would be on that list but not because I think they're so incredibly hot there. It's the missconception that exist about how all Swedes are tall, leggy, blonde (I hate this stereotype because I don't fit in it. "But you don't LOOK Swedish" "Yeah, thanks. I guess you're going to tell me I have a great personality next" :crying: ) and "liberated" (read extremely easy to get into bed), the Swedish sin thing.

And for the record: No one in their right mind wears a bikini in Sweden for more than the 2 short months of the year when it isn't f*cking freezing. And even then it's RAINING half the time.
