  1. Always a good thing to wait an extra week. I did look and yes theoretically your's was 90 days prior, but the 90th day landed exactly on their 90th. They need prior or 90+ days. So if you had waited and sent it the next day, that would have been 91 days and it wouldn't have been returned. I made sure I waited a full week before submitting mine as they are very strict about this. Just resend it back now as you are within the time limits now...

I would also advise people to wait few extra days before filing and dont file exactly 90 days before. Here is a website to calculate days between the dates.

    http://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html

EnglishBob, there is also an issue of including end date in the calculation. If USCIS includes end date in calculation, your application was 91 days before.

  2. Salaam

    anyone know??

Mo told us that immigrants peoples can apply for lift of conditions 6 mos ahead of time insteqad of 3??

Bro Wajid congrats on the bumpkin!!

    Walikum Salaam Cindi,

Here is what I read online you must file before the 90 days but (If you file it too early, they will send your application back.) Someone else may know differently but this is the guide I am using.

Zaki you need the letter to obtain enterance into the embassy. Contact someone if your interview is in two days and no letter. Also, your evidence must be able to go under the window you can take the albums and send pics thru the window to them and they may ask to keep one or two of them. Good luck.

Mary is right, it is 90 days not 6 months. Also it is better to wait few extra days and file 85-90 days before.

  3. i found this on page 14 of the guide I mentioned earlier....
    If I am a U.S. citizen, is my child a U.S. citizen?

A child who is born in the United States, or born abroad to a U.S. citizen(s) who lived in

(or came to) the United States for the required period of time prior to the child's birth, is

generally considered a U.S. citizen at birth.

    A child who is:

    * Born to a U.S. citizen who did not live in (or come to) the United States for the

required period of time prior to the child's birth, or

    * Born to one U.S. citizen parent and one alien parent or two alien parents who

naturalize after the child's birth, or

    * Adopted (stepchildren cannot derive or acquire citizenship through their stepparents)

14 and is permanently residing in the United States can become a U.S. citizen by action of

law on the date on which all of the following requirements have been met:

    * The child was lawfully admitted for permanent residence*; and

    * Either parent was a United States citizen by birth or naturalization**; and

    * The child was still under 18 years of age; and

    * The child was not married; and

    * The child was the parent's legitimate child or was legitimated by the parent before

the child's 16th birthday (children born out of wedlock who were not legitimated

before their 16th birthday do not derive United States citizenship through their

    father); and

    * If adopted, the child met the requirements of section 101( B )(1)(E) or ( F ) of the

Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) and has had a full and final adoption; and

    * The child was residing in the United States in the legal custody of the U.S. citizen

parent (this includes joint custody); and

    * The child was residing in the United States in the physical custody of the U.S.

    citizen parent.

If you and your child meet all of these requirements, you may obtain a U.S. passport for the

child as evidence of citizenship. If the child needs further evidence of citizenship, you may

submit an "Application for Certificate of Citizenship" (Form N-600) to USCIS to obtain a

Certificate of Citizenship. (NOTE: A child who meets these requirements before his or her

18th birthday may obtain a passport or Certificate of Citizenship at any time, even after he or

    she turns 18.)

*NOTE - Children who immigrated under the "IR-3" or "IR-4" categories must have had an

immigrant petition filed on their behalf before their 16th birthday; see answers to Question

    26. All adoptions for any other type of immigration benefit, including naturalization, must

be completed by the child's 16th birthday, with one exception: A child adopted while under

the age of 18 years by the same parents who adopted a natural sibling who met the usual

    requirements.

**NOTE - The "one U.S. citizen parent" rule applies only to children who first fulfilled the

requirements for automatic citizenship (other than at birth abroad) on or after February 27,

2001. In order to qualify for automatic citizenship (other than at birth abroad) on or before

February 26, 2001, both of the child's parents must have been United States citizens either

at birth or through naturalization - both parents if the child had two parents; the surviving

parent if a parent had died; the parent with legal custody if the parents were divorced or

legally separated; or the mother only, if the child had been born out of wedlock and the child's

paternity had not been established by legitimation.

I forgot to mention in my post above that children who are under 18 and also are permanent residents fall in this category.

  4. Valid passport is not required, save your $$ and apply for an American one after you naturalize.

    Thanks!

If your son is under 18, you do not need to apply for his citizenship. When you become a U.S. Citizen, all of your children who are under 18 automatically become U.S. citizens and you can apply for their U.S. passports .

  5. When I first looked at sending in the N-400, the general school of thought was to send it in 6 months prior to becoming eligible. Is this still true? The six months seemed to be based on the average time it took your local office to process an N-400, meaning that if you were filing in a service center that took a year to process an N-400 then you could send in your petition a year in advance. I don't see local office processing times for N-400's posted anywhere anymore. What’s the buzz in Hartford CT?

    Hi.

I've got my interview appointment letter invitation in a 1,5 month after the N-400 filing,so i dont know how long will it take to finish the entire process in my case,we;ll see....Sometimes it takes 4 month in someone;s cases and sometimes it takes longer,i dont know what it depends on ,i guess that maybe depends on the Service Center processing timelines or how did you comply with all of the filing requirements,if you filed everything correctly or something like that...

    Best wishes. (F)

You can send N-400 90 days (NOT 3 MONTHS) before your 3 year (if married to U.S. Citizen and fulfilling other requirements) or 5 year GC anniversary date. If you send your application before that, it will be rejected and sent back.

  6. You can put her thumb print on the signature.

    I had the same question last year when I got my daughter's US passport, she was 2 years old at that time. I emailed the National Passport Center and they told me that I can sign the passport as follows;

daughter's name by father's name (father) e.g Shiloh Jolie Pitt by Brad Pitt (Father)

  7. I have one question regarding the N-400 application. Do I need to send 2 separate checks for the processing fee and the biometrics ($330 + $70), or one check in the amount of $400 ?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi!

No,you should send 2 separate checks and seems like it was mentioned somewhere in the Naturalization guide or in the N-400 instructions.

    Best wishes. (F)

One check of $400 is fine, there is no need to send two separate checks. I sent one check and everyone I know who applied for Naturalization sent only one check. I would suggest not to make things too complicted than they already are.

  8. China does not allow dual citizenship and that is the main issue to consider for Chinese citizens whether it is of any benefit to apply for US citizenship, especially if they want to move back to China at some point. If China had allowed dual citizenship, it would be beneficial to have both US and Chinese citizenships.

  9. There is no restriction on international travel after you file N-400. As long as it is a trip of short duration and does not break your continuous residency, it will not have any adverse affect on your application. If you are traveling just after filing your application, ask someone to watch your mail as you will be receiving NOA and then your fingerprint notice. I traveled after filing my N-400 and was a non-issue at the interview. Interviewing officer asked me the dates and purpose of my travel and wrote it on my application, thats it.

  10. A day after I filed my N400, I had to leave on a business trip. In N400 the details for all international trips is needed. Clearly, my this trip would not be there on my filed N400. I am hoping when I go for interview I can tell about this to the officer and make amendment to the N400 application there infront of him before signing the form.

Is this ok? Anyone else done this earlier? any issues?

You will get a chance to amend your application and add any trips at the time of your interview.

  11. They did not ask for mine... maybe it depends, or maybe that's an old requirement.
Thanks MJA... a friend called me today and told me that last he filed N4OO and they asked for his tax returns... do they still do that? Do I need to get them togther for the past 5 years?

You may or may not be asked to show your past 5 year tax returns at the time of interview. But I would suggest to get them together and take it with you. You dont lose anything if the IO does not ask for it. But if you dont take them and IO asks for it, it will delay your case. People have mentioned being asked for documents during their interviews which were not listed in the interview letter. I have my interview in 3 days on 01/12/07 and I am taking more documents than asked but they have been asked from other people during their interviews; better safe than sorry.

  12. Hello

A quick question ...on the N400 (as on all forms) asks for employment and school for last 5 yrs... if I did not work for about 9 months and did not go to school... could they deny me?... is that why I did not recieve any notices yet?

You cannot be denied citizenship for not working. As long as you filed your taxes, you are fine.

  13. Hello,

A friend of mine wants to know if he can apply for naturilization 3 months or 6 months prior to the full 5 years of becoming a permanent resident. In other words, he should be 5 years of PR in June of 2007. Can he apply now or do he have to wait till march (that is 3 months before). Any help will be highly appreiciated...

He can apply 90 days prior to his 5 years anniversary. There is a difference between 3 months and 90 days. Make sure he counts the days and it is 90 days, NOT 3 MONTHS. Even if the application is few days early, it can be rejected. Also it is good to be on the safe side and wait few more days (send the application 85-87 days before the 5 year anniversary).

  14. https://www.ppoutlet.com/rates/cardrates.asp?cid=487

call pakistan any location UNLIMITED with Cell or Landline same pricing..:)

There is a fine print with this card

Weekly maintenance fee of $.69 applies after first use, calls made with toll free are charged extra 1 cent/ per minute.

dont freak out on it. card cost 2.99 cent use it ONE time. once you hang up card is finished.

you cant get the card in higher increments. so make that 2.99 cent count!!! I have used this companys calling cards for 2 years. they always have good connections and best rates out there.

If this card costs $2.99 and is good for one call then it is of no use for people who do not make long calls. If you make a call of 10 to 20 minutes, this card is useless. It is only good if you make really long calls.

  15. That is untrue

An American citizen can have dual citizenship as long as the country appied to doesnt require you to renounce your citizenship. I have made several inquiries into it myself and a friend who works in Nigerian Embassy explained it to me. You are technicinally a citizen immediately through marriage so all you need is the passport. At least that is the way it works in Nigeria. It is way cheaper and it can be done from here through the Ghana embassy although its cheaper to do it there when you arrive. If I am not mistaken, in the UK, an American has to chooes to be either American or British I think, they cant be both.

USA and UK both allow dual citizenship. It does not matter if you are a born or naturalized US citizen, you can be a dual citizen as long as the other country allows dual citizenship. Same is the case with UK, you are allowed to be a dual citizen.

You can be a dual USA and UK citizen.

  16. Was it hard to get the Canada Vistor Visa as a Paksitani citizen?

If your husband has a Green card, he does not need a visa for Canada.

holy smokes- I think learned something new here.. KLM goes to PK?

does KLM go to Lahore? or where.. I can fly on KLM for free..

KLM does not go to Pakistan, it flies to Dubai and you get a connection by Emirates.

does anyone know if british airlines goes to PK.

Yes, British Airways flies to Islamabad.
