  1. "This is a tricky one but from what I understand you do NOT list the other parent on the I-864, as they have a separate I-864. This info was given to me by folks who just immigrated and are on this forum and their daughter initially put down both parents and got a checklist to correct it.. I am not listing my parents on the same I-864. Also be careful when calculating your household size. If you currently have a family of 4 for example, plus one parent, you would enter a total of 5, rather than calculating in each parent to make a family of 6. The reason being is because each parent gets a separate I-864."

My husband and I have just completed all the immigration process and are now in the USA. Our daughter, a USA Citizen petitioned for us on an IR-5 visa.

She was the only person to sponsor us so I can only comment on the way she completed the I-864. As we were on IR-5 visas, each of us had to apply separately, so our daughter had to complete 2 I-864's - one for me and one for my husband. She lives with her husband and 2 children and originally she completed them with a family size of 6 - 4 of them, 1 for the applicant and 1 for the other person she was sponsoring.

The NVC rejected these forms and she had to resubmit both of the forms with a family size of 5. (This delayed our visa by about 5 weeks).

If you are in any doubt about how to complete this section of the I-864 then I suggest you ring the NVC and ask them. I found them quite helpful.

As I say I can't comment on how you complete the form if there are joint sponsors, or on any other visa's than IR-5.

    Good luck.

  2. I can only tell you about the process at the London Embassy. We were interviewed together. When we had gone through the security and entered the Embassy we showed our two interview letters and they were put together and we were given only one number for both of us. At the London Embassy they don't have interview rooms, there are just windows which you go to. So we were not separated and had our interviews standing at one of these windows.

If you haven't done so yet, you might want to see if there are any reviews of Montreal in the Embassy Review section of this excellent forum, as we found them very helpful before we went. On the London review section there is only our review for an IR5 visa, but the reviews for the majority (K1) all followed the same pattern.

    Good luck

  3. Hi

Yes we had 2 separate case numbers (they were consecuitive) and they seem to have been dealt with by the NVC together. So we got our interview date on the same day.

I suggest you phone the NVC and ask them to hold your Mum's interview until your Dad's case is complete. The reason I say this is that you only have 6 mths from the date of the medical (when the chest x-ray was taken) before you MUST arrive in the USA - well that is the rule in the UK, not sure where your parents interview is taking place.

I'd try and get it clarified.

  4. They didn't really ask any questions. Both of the ladies just chatted really. So I don't think your Mum should be worried. I did a review on the London Embassy review (think it's the only one for an IR5 so it should be easy to find) which you might find useful.

I took some photos but they weren't needed.

Good luck to her, but I don't think she will need it. Provided all the documentation is there and your mum hasn't been denied access to the USA then she'll be fine.

  5. Hi Collie

I will, of course, post again to let you know how the interview went. We have no idea at all what questions they are going to ask, and not sure if I'm looking forward to it. But I am looking forward to going over to live close to our daughter & her family. We won't be able to get there for Christmas, but hopefully we can get everything sorted for mid January or early February.

Will update my time line as well with the additional info as it comes in.

    Good luck to your parents.

  6. Hi London User

I didn't do anything to push the process along. The NVC told me that they wait for the US Embassy in London to give them a list of dates and then they distribute them. It would seem to me (and I may be wrong) that they only get the interview dates onces a month, so we were able to get into the 'December interview' batch. From your dates it looks like you should be in the January batch of dates - but then it just depends on how many interview dates the NVC have compared to how many people waiting interviews.

If the timing for the next lot of interview dates follows ours then you might get notification next week.

    Hope so,

    Good luck

  7. I am assuming you are going through the National Visa Service in the US (NVC). If so how long was it between you sending in all your documentation and completing the DS260? The NVC requires between 20 and 30 days to review the documentation and advise you.

When we were going through this part of the process we continually got e-mails from the NVC saying they were missing information when in fact it was a computer generated e-mail. However your e-mail does seem very specific.

If it is the NVC who are dealing with your visa application then I suggest that you ring them of 001 603 334 0700 - they are open from 7:30 to 24:00 EST. I found they reasonably helpful.

    Good luck

  8. My comments on the Timeline (based on an IR-5 visa):

I have had to do a lot of googling to find out what the Packet 3 and Packet 4 are. They don't seem to being used any longer by the US government and could perhaps be changed to what they are

Packet 3 - instructions for the immigration visa

Packet 4 - Appointment notification and information

    Great website and very useful.

    Thanks

  9. dwheels,

    How are ya?

Good to see all the interviews coming up. Exciting time!

My wife's GC and SSN came in last week and we are finally settling down.

Thanks for all your help and keep up the great work that you do!

    Good luck everyone!

  10. Evoria - they don't send back the documents you have already sent. If they send you an e-mail saying that something is wrong/missing then you just send that in with the covering sheet. You should assume that if they have reviewed the documents then the only thing they have found wrong is what they have e-mailed you about - in your case the AOS form (I864).

Sounds like when you have sent back the I864 the way they need it then you will just have to wait their admin time (20 or 30 working days) and your application will be cleared to go to the next stage.

    Good luck

  11. Hi

We had exactly the same issue with this form. The NVC referred it back as our daughter had included my husband on my form and me on my husbands form. She re-submitted them the way they asked for it, and everything was OK. All our documentation is now reviewed and we are waiting for an interview date.

The way they want the AOS document filled in doesn't seem to make much sense to me as if our daughter is signing to say she can support both my husband and myself then you would have expected her family size to include both of us. But if that's what they want!

    Good luck

  12. Hi

Found out today that the NVC completed the review of our case on the 11 Oct 2013. We are now waiting for the NVC to schedule the interview at the US Embassy in London.

Does anyone have any idea of how long this can take. The NVC would not (or could not) give me any idea of how long this stage would be. If anyone has gone through this part of the process and can shed some light on the timings it would be much appreciated.

    At least we're nearly there!

    Thanks

  13. Hi Collie

We didn't chase up the Affidavit of support fee. Once the USCIS have finished their review of the I-130 they send you another I-797 (NOA2). Our daughter sent in the I-130 on the 12 Jan 2013 and we had the NOA2 on the 18 Apr - so 3 mths. Then the USCIS send all the information to the NVC.

The NOA2 letter says leave it 30 days before contacting the NVC (National Visa Centre) if you haven't heard anything. We hadn't so I e-mailed them but it took them a couple of weeks to reply - I had got fed-up with waiting so I phoned the NVC and they said they hadn't received them - also said it wasn't unusual. They asked me to e-mail the NOA2 letters which I did. Finally had confirmation from the NVC that they had received the petition on the 30 May and said it would take 6-8 weeks.

But it didn't, on the 12 June we got an e-mail from them asking for the $88 Affidavit of Support fee (if you are filing for 2 parents at the same time you only have to pay this fee once). That part is very well organised and the NVC website is easy to use. It took several days for the fee to be marked as paid, but because our daughter had sent in the I-134 Affidavit of Support document to the USCIS with our original I-130, we got the request for the Immigration Visa fee on the 27 June.

We sent off our DS-230 on the 4 July from the UK and are now waiting for it to be received by the NVC. I phoned them last Friday and they said they had received something, but as our daughter had sent in her original birth & marriage certificate we assumed it was that they had received. Am going to ring them again this Friday and see if they will check what they have actually received. Don't want our documents getting lost in the post!

Then, as I said in the topic, I have to wait for them to review all our documents and give us an interview date at the US Embassy. The NVC said it would take them 20 working days to review the documentation, but couldn't tell me how long to get an interview date. It's this bit that we don't know how long it's likely to be, so I was hoping for someone who was in that final stage who might be able to tell us how long it took the NVC to give them an interview date at the London USA Embassy.

You still have quite a long way to go with your parents visa application, but I wish you the best of luck. And I agree, it is very frustrating, mainly because you have no idea how long the process is going to take.

  14. Hi everyone

Hope someone who has recently gone through this process can help.

My husband and I live in the UK and our daughter (a US Citizen) has petitioned for us both to emigrate to the USA.

We started the process on the 12 Jan 2013, and got the 2nd Notice of Action (I797) on the 18 April 2013. It took the NVC some time to get the documents but I chased them and they sent the request for $88 for the Affidavit of Support fee on the 30 May. We then paid the Immigration Visa fees which were marked paid on the 2 July. We sent off our Visa Application to the NVC on the 4 July 2013 and when I phoned yesterday they said it would take 20 working days for them to review the file.

I then asked how long it would then take to get an interview date at the US Embassy in London and they said they couldn't say.

So my question is - roughly how long does it take from the NVC reviewing the Visa Application and getting an interview at the US Embassy in London?

Many thanks for the help. It's a tough process, mainly because you have no control whatsoever over the timing, but it will be lovely to be in the USA with our daughter and grandchildren.
