  1. Hey guys! My fiance's K1 visa was approved on December third! We are currently waiting for his passport to be mailed back to him so we can hurry and book his flight! But I have a question and I cannot find an answer anywhere!

Do we need to pay the $165 Immigrant Fee? It's so confusing with the K1 visa being processed so similarly to an immigrant visa even though it's actually a non-immigrant visa. Please help! And thank you!

  2. Hello,

I am a new member on VJ. I have still couple of questions, i would appreciate if anyone can answer my querries. Our petition has reached mumbai consulate on 28th of Nov'13. I haven't yet received letter from the counsulate, . My questions are : 1. When can i receive letter for interview from the consulate and how do i know my interview date ? 2. Filling DS-160 is difficult or i need to take visa agent's help ? 3. visa fees which you have mentioned has to be paid online or by way of DD before interview or at the time of interview ?

I would appreciate if anyone can answer my querries

    Thanks,

Hello! My fiance was approved by the Mumbai consulate this week, so I can try to help you out!

    1. Check your email daily! We didn't get anything via post. We got our instructions through email about a day after the consulate received our case.

    2. It's not too difficult. I don't think you'd need a lawyer unless you have special circumstances in your case, like a criminal record or overstaying a visa, things like that. It just takes a bit of time to fill it out.

    3. The visa fee has to be paid before you are able to schedule your interview. (Yes, you get to chose your own interview date! More info on that should come in your first email from the consulate!)

  3. Yes, it doesn't mean that your visa will be ready two days from now. It means that your passport will be ready for pick up or to ship one to two days after Administrative Processing is done. Administrative processing takes anywhere from a few days to several months! But if you were told you were approved at the interview, then you are probably about to get issued your visa. From what I've read here, it seems that CEAC switches the status from Ready to AP right before the visa is about to be issued.

I'm in the same boat as you! Stuck on AP for the weekend, it seems! And then hopefully it'll be issued on Monday or Tuesday! Good luck!

  4. Hey guys! My fiance went to his interview today AND WAS APPROVED! :Ddancin5hr.gifkicking.gif We're planning on him flying in on the 15th of this month! Just waiting for his passport now so we can book the tickets! I'm so happy I can finally relax for now and spend the holidays with him for the first time!

Thank you guys for all of your support. Even when you were just updating the group with how it's going in your case, it gave me encouragement and hope! I wish all of you the best !

  5. Hello!

I suggest you get more evidence of your relationship! More chat records, including conversations going back to even before filing the I-129f. Also photos with dates and locations written on the back. Anything and everything that can help your case. My fiance is bringing 1000+ pages of facebook and skype messages, along with phone records since last year! If you do all of this though, make sure you guys keep it organized so any specific evidence can be pulled from the stack easily.

I don't think you can bee too prepared for this,

    Good luck!

  6. Oh my gosh! So many approvals!!! :D This is really is wonderful!

Now I have a question for all of you. My fiance's interview is in five days and all I can do is think about the interview - what may go wrong, if we are denied, if we are approved, if he loses his documents, AP! How did all of you survive the countdown to the interview? I feel like I'm going to go crazy! So far staying busy and not counting the days has helped, but now we're down to the wire! All of our documents are in place so all we can do now is wait. AHHH! ClockWatch2.gif

  7. It depends on want you want for your wedding. I didn't start planning my wedding until after the i-129 was approved to try to have a better understanding of when my fiance may get here. After that it's all good guess work. You can try to purchase things that won't be affected dramatically by time if the K1 is not approved or you get AP. For example, wedding bands. You can look for a wedding venue that is flexable with it's schedule. My wedding venue let me put down a deposit for February but said that we could change the date by a few months if I needed to. You can start looking at wedding dresses (they usually take several months to get in) You could order the dress and wait to get it altered until you're sure your fiance is coming. Reciepts for all of these things will be very helpful for the interview.

If you can't get anything purchased I suggest that you at least have some sort of plan, that you have pictures of a wedding dress that you want, an idea of where you want to get married etc.

  8. I also am using a co-sponser and did not file taxes for 2012. My co-sponser and I both provided the same documents, but in my case, instead of a copy of my taxes from 2012, I wrote a letter explaining why I wasn't legally required to file taxes last year, signed and dated it. I suggest that you do the same, just for some extra clarification! It can be something as simple as

"I, ________, did not file taxes for the year ___ and ____ because I did not make enough money to be legally required to do so. I was employed at ________ while living in _____ with my fiance, and made _______ per year."

Or something along those lines. I haven't seen it said anywhwere that you HAVE to do this, but I have seen it suggested here! I figured it's better to be safe than sorry with this kind of stuff! Good luck!

  9. My fiance had to change his birthday on his passport in Kolkata this past year. I don't mean to scare you, but it was a HUGE hassle. It took us eight months for the enitre process because the people working in the passport office didn't know what they were doing, and the kept asking for more and more money to get it done, when no money should have been requested in the first place. I have no idea if it is the same in Mumbai, but I highly suggest your fiance start that process NOW, and that he has some extra money if the passport officers ask for it.

But then again, you may have no problem just taking a new picture and getting a new passport issued. My fiance had to do a lot of legal things having to do with getting his birthday changed. After he had everything in order it only took two weeks to actually recieve the passport. I wish you luck!

  10. AHHHHH! It's so exciting to hear that people are getting interview dates already, and for this year too! It gives me hope! :D The consulate recieved our case on October 18th! My fiance is running around in Mumbai getting his medical exam results! Now all we have to do is schedule the interview and I AM SO EXCITED I CAN HARDLY STAND IT! Hoping he can get here before Christmas!

I wish all of you the best of luck! I'm hoping all of us can have our loved ones with us for the holidays!
