  1. Why would you want to delay the process for your greencard? Sometimes these things take ages - sometimes your process goes smoothly.

Personally I don't think being pinched for cash is a good excuse to delay the petition. Eat beans for a month.

Do you have an easy answer for if we were eating beans to begin with???

Its been a long road for us to get him here to begin with (we were married in September of 2005) so yes we know these things can take a while. Of course we are not purposely waiting you have misunderstood our intent with the questions, we only want to know our options and yes if getting him (I'm easycome00's wife) his work authorization FIRST so we have more income to pay the fees helps then who are you to tell me what is a good excuse and what isnt?? I obviously want more than anything to have my husband here and permanently or I wouldnt have gotten myself into this financial mess to bring him here so please dont tell me what is acceptable.

  2. 1) On K-3 visa you will need either Green card or EAD card in order to apply for SS number.

    2) You can adjust status any time up to the expiration date on I-94, even a bit after, but you will be out of status and it would not be advisable to be out of status long. Some wait until after they did a more favorable tax return to use the better return with the I-864.

    3) In order to work you need permission from the USCIS, you apply for EAD card, using I-765

Thanks for your help! Can we apply for EAD only now and get a ss number and then several months from now when we can afford the fees apply for the Adjustment of status then?? Do they need to be filed together?

  3. Hello. I have just arrived here in the US and my wife and I are preparing my Adjustment of Status papers to file. We have a couple of questions we hope you can help us with...

    1) The I-485 asks for a social security number and a A number. Can I apply for a ss number before filing for AOS? Which number is the A number?? there is a red number on my visa in the annotations section, and a really long line of numbers also on bottom and also a "control number"?? Which one??

    2) We saw another members timeline, they did not file for a adjustment of status until the 2 years on the visa were almost expired..? We were under the impression that we had to file for AOS as soon as I arrived in the US? Do we have longer??

    3) We have read conflicting information about working. I am here on a K3 Visa, can I work or must I wait to recieve permission?? Same confusion about traveling...I was told when I enter the US on a K3 I can immediatly travel if I need to and reenter the US but I see the form for permission to travel before being granted the green card?

    Thanks for all your help!
