Okay, another question..
We just received a text from USCIS today that my husband's new Green Card is being issued today (8/16), however we never got an approval notice of any kind. Also, we just mailed in his citizenship application, which was received by USCIS on 8/7. Is this typical? I've seen a lot of people in the same situation with emails saying USCIS was essentially going to combine the two applications (I-751 and N-400).
I'm assuming this will not cause any issues but found it odd as it's not what I've seen happening to others. Let me know your thoughts and if you think I'm freaking out for no reason! You just never know with immigration, man..

So it looks like many people that filed their I-751 around the same time as us, and many long after we filed, have already gotten an approval. We received our NOA1 on 6/16/16 and have received nothing since, not even an RFE.
We went ahead and just filed my husband's N-400 because he was eligible and we weren't going to wait around for our case to be processed because I'm guessing, at this point, it's not going to happen, especially now that his N-400 will likely override the I-751. (We did indeed make sure this was a viable step in the process prior to submitting his N-400 to avoid any issues, and I've seen a couple people on here that have done the same).
Are people with similar filing times experiencing the same lag? It's crazy!
It's kind of moot point, but wanted to reach out and make sure our case didn't get lost or something!

First of all, YES, this is frustrating!
Second, keep in mind that the 1 year extension refers to the date on your hubby's green card, not one year after the NOA1 date. So if you applied near the beginning of your window, his extension adds 1 year to the date on his green card, which buys you a few months.
If they have still not processed his ROC before then, he needs to make an appointment at your local USCIS office for an I-551 stamp in his passport, which gives you another year extension.
Throughout the process, (unless your application is actually denied, which happens VERY rarely) your husband is fully legal. His ROC is pending, but he is still a legal permanent resident until and unless USCIS tells him he isn't. All you would be missing is the PROOF of that status (which, I admit, he will need if he wants to travel outside the States, or access certain government departments (DMV in some states etc)). However, the onus is on him to make the appointment and get the stamp - USCIS will not generate another extension letter.
Yes, he can still apply for citizenship at the 3 years of residency (as long as he fulfills the other conditions), whether or not he has actually been approved for ROC. The ROC will have to be approved before they process the N-400, but some people are applying with the intention of making USCIS adjudicate the I-751 so that they can get to work on naturalization! Who knows? It might even work!
Thank you! This is very helpful.

It appears that the CSC has come to a halt in terms of processing Removal of Conditionals applications - I751. Our NOA1 date is June 17th, 2016 - I thought we were getting so close but then saw the processing dates constantly get pushed back or stand still. So frustrating! My question is this: should my husband's Removal of Conditions not be approved prior to his current NOA1 expiration date that extended his Conditional Residency status by one year, what happens? His NOA1 expires on June 17th, 2017. I would assume they would account for their processing woes and allow those who are still waiting for their 10 year Green Cards to remain fully legal. We also talked to an officer at an InfoPass appointment prior to my husband traveling back to Turkey a couple months ago and she said should processing times on your 10 year Green Card lapse with when you're eligible to apply for citizenship, you can still apply for citizenship (this is for people who grew from a K1).
What a cluster!

This shouldn't be an issue - married couples across the board file their taxes in whichever status is of the most fiscal benefit to them. Sometimes Married Filing Separately garners a larger return and sometimes Married Filing Jointly garners the largest return. I wouldn't be worried! If she filed as Single, that'd be a different story!
Good luck!

Our's just got there on Monday, June 20th! There were very quick to cash the check - 1 day! If only they'd be that quick with everything..
Best of luck to all!

Hi there,
You can't do much of anything until you guys get married. As mentioned above, your fiance could get a SS card but would have to re-apply once their name was changed (assuming it's a female). You could start preparing your paperwork and saving money for filing fees so that you have things ready when the time comes, but you cannot legally submit the applications associated with K1-based Adjustment of Status until you have your marriage license.
If you go to "Form Downloads" at the top of the VisaJourney website and then click on "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) Forms" everything should be there! I used this checklist and cross-checked it with what USCIS.gov said I should have and things went well; nothing was missing. It is helpful to look at the "Instruction Sheets" for each form number on USCIS.gov.
You will need I-485 - Application to Registered Permanent Residence or Adjust Status
I-864 - Affidavit of Support (be sure to include the sponsor's tax returns, two most recent pay stubs, as well as employment verification with this form)
G-325A - Biographical Information (one for both you and your fiance)
I-765 - Application for Employment Authorization (this application, once approved, will get you a card that allows you to work while waiting for your Green Card)
I-131 - Application for Travel Document (usually approved alongside the Employment Authorization and combined into one card, this will allow you to travel outside of the United States while waiting for your green card)
G-1145 - E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance (this is optional if you want to receive emails/text messages regarding the status of your pending cases.)
But, like I said, the forms themselves are available under the link I mentioned above.
Be sure to submit evidence of your relationship with your fiance along with the applications (joint lease, photos, emails, etc.), they seem to hold these in high regard.
Best of luck!

We got our tracking number from USPS same day; the GC is on its way!
This process has made me a worry wart! Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Hang in there! I know exactly what you're going through. My husband is from Turkey and when we first expressed that we were going to go the K1 -> Green Card route there was so much speculation it made me sick to my stomach. People that I worked with, as well as friends and even family, questioned our motives. I had several people passive aggressively accuse me of marrying him just so he could get a green card. I also had numerous sideways glances because he was Muslim (he's not, and even if he was, WHO CARES?!) and even had questions about him being involved in a terrorist organization because he was from "that part of the world" (...really..?).
People love to speculate, talk, and judge because of their own insecurities. Like someone mentioned above, those who truly care about you and are looking out for your well-being will not judge, but simply support you. It is you and your fiance's life and no one else's. If you feel what you're doing is right, then by all means do it! People have misconceptions of every nation across the globe but they can't let that stop them from educating themselves and forming a well-rounded, well-educated opinion. Your friends and family seem to be spouting off a lot of BS probably because they're jealous, scared, or just don't get it. And that's ok! Help them to understand that this is a great opportunity for you and if they can't accept that then maybe their exit from your life is a blessing in disguise.
You will LOVE Arizona and you will love the United States (though of course it has it's many faults..
, and most importantly, you will love being in the same space as the person you love. Hang in there! It does get better once you learn to let go and do what makes you truly happy.
Best of luck!

Hi everyone,
My husband had his AOS interview on July 9th and we received the following string of emails/SMS starting on July 16th, 2014:
July 16th, 4:30PM - I-485: Card/Document Production - Ordered Production of Hasan's card
July 16th, 6:30PM - I-130: Approval Notice Mailed (this was received on Friday, July 18th)
July 17th, 8:30AM - I-485: Decision - Welcome/LPR Status Registered Notice Mailed (this was received yesterday, July 21st)
July 22nd, 7:45AM - I-485: Card/Document Production - "We mailed the new card directly to the address on file" (no tracking number)
July 22nd, 8:15AM - 1-485: Decision - Welcome/LPR Status Registered Notice Mailed (again..?)
I've read a bunch of forums online that say that pretty much everyone gets really weird case status updates from USCIS upon approval but I just find this very odd. Why within 30 minutes of receiving the "card mailed" email/SMS did it go back to "Decision"? If they say his card was mailed I'm assuming it was mailed, but I cannot see a tracking number or anything since it is no longer on "Card/Document Production" on the USCIS Check Case Status website.
Thoughts? Judging by the amount of similar posts online from stressed out AOS-ers, USCIS really needs to revamp their online tools..

Thanks for your responses everyone. Very ready for this whole thing to be over.

Hi there,
I've got a question for anyone that may be experienced with this situation or have any good advice:
My fiance had his medical exam this morning in Ankara, Turkey and everything went well except for one thing: Hasan had tuberculosis as a small child (obviously has cleared up since then) but his medical records were lost when his childhood hospital moved locations. He informed the doctor at his exam that he had TB as a kid but it was cleared up, but he does have scarring on this lungs (typical). The doctor told him that they would need to administer two additional TB tests, all on separate days (three total). Here's where the problem arises: He completed one today during his initial medical exam, will do one tomorrow (Tuesday) and one Wednesday. However, his visa interview is at 8:40AM on Wednesday. The hospital told him after completion of all three TB tests they would send his records to the Embassy in Ankara.
Is this going to heavily delay our visa process at all? Assuming all else goes well at his interview, will they simply be able to send the medical documents to the Embassy post-interview, review them upon receipt, and then make a decision without my fiance having to return to the Embassy since he already completed his interview?
We're very frustrated with this becuase he initially scheduled his medical examination for 5 days prior to his interview but they rescheduled on him becuase the doctors were going to be at a conference. Had he been able to do his medical when he originally planned, this overlapping of events would not be happening..
Thanks for your help and input. We're so, so, so close to being done and everything has gone smoothly thus far, so this setback is very frustrating.
Regards,
Mallory & Hasan
