  1. My oath ceremony is Aug 23rd at 8am in San Diego

I read in a few places that the ceremony only starts at 10 am - and 8am more like a check in time. Is that correct?

so what time is the latest the guests can arrive (some of them are driving in from out of town that morning)?

I am thinking that if they arrive at 9am they should have enough time to get in???

    Hello everyone!

I have been so busy from the weekend before my interview until today, I've finally got a day to relax and tell you all about my interview experience.

My interview was on Tuesday July 18th at 1.15 pm I arrived at the USCIS building around 1230, parked at the building and proceeded to the security gate. The security guys were really friendly, one of them asked for an ID and the interview notice. Went through the metal detectors and was wished good luck as several others got into the elevator. Got off at the fourth floor and was greeted by a security guy and a lady behind the computer. She checked my interview letter wrote the name of my assigned officer on the top right hand corner and was asked to fill out a sheet and sit down until my name was called. It was probably around 1 when I finally took a seat and watched people being called. Most people I notice left with smiles on their face. It was probably around 120 when my name was called and the officer introduced herself and escorted me to her office. I was very nervous. She swore me in and then she was nice enough to get the civics test over right away.

    1. What is freedom of religion?

    2. How many senators are there?

    3. When was the declaration of independence adopted ?

    4. What ocean is on the east coast of the U.S.?

    5. Name one state that borders (don't remember if it was Canada or Mexico)

    6. Why does the flag have 13 stripes?

I got all of them correct and then proceeded to the oral and written exam. She had a sheet and asked me to read number 3 question which was: What are the colors of the flag? and then handed me another sheet and asked me to write on line number 3, The colors of the flag are red, white and blue.

We then proceeded to go over my application, and I had extra evidence for a ticket I got once and she looked at it and made some notes. Took a copy of my marriage certificate and that was pretty much it. I had a couple of questions, especially since I'll be traveling out of the country for about 7 days in August ( most likely around the time of that months oath ceremony) so she took some notes and kept a copy of my itinerary.

She told me before I left Congratulations! and tell will be scheduling an oath ceremony. Overall my experience was great. I was way to nervous to enjoy the process but now I am one more step closer to becoming a US Citizen! Monday the 24th I got an email and text status update saying that my Oath ceremony will be scheduled. yay!!

ps. I did ask about ceremonies on the USS Midway and apparently those are only reserved for military personnel and "Special people" (bummer)

Congratulations to everyone who's had a good interview outcome and Good Luck to those who have upcoming interviews.

    Congratulations!

That's not too bad. Beats looking for street parking.

I forgot got to ask if the IO asked for two pictures. I know you brought them with you to the interview.

    He didn't ask for photos.

I took the pictures with because i read that some ppl were asked for photos.

The only docs he wanted to see were marriage/birth certificates and my identification docs.

But if they needed a document or it was missing, i wanted to be able to settle it in the interview and not have to deal with a RFE.

Congrats on your interview. I'm so nervous. I'm planning to be as prepared as possible, but this last stretch is giving me anxiety.

I wanted to ask a couple of questions.

How much was parking at the uscis building?

Did he ask about same day ceremonies or date request? I know they do a couple naturalization ceremonies a year aboard the Midway Museum and I would love to be able to request if I could have mine there (considering that I pass my interview)

Thank you. This whole process is really stressful.  I am sure that you will do well and when you're prepared it will help calm your nerves. I hope  that your interview goes well.

Parking at 110 Plaza was $2 every 20 min, with a max of $24/day. We paid $10.

I wad so stressed i couldn't think of the questions i wanted to ask.  I checked their website and they don't do same day oath ceremonies.

Yes they did the oath ceremony  for the 4th of July on the Midway Museum, it was a really special ceremony when i saw it on the news.

If you do ask your IO any if these questions, pls share your info with us.

    Good luck with your preparations!!

  7. I'm so relieved and happy i passed the interview process. We thought we were going to be super late (appt was at 8:45 am) because there were so many accidents and part of the freeway was shutdown... it was so stressful watching the 30+ minutes add onto on the GPS time of arrival, but luckily we left early enough in case something went wrong with the traffic i found out that public parking was available in the same building as the USCIS San Diego offices so that saved so much time.

We (hubby, kiddos & I) got there about 10 min early.

We went through securityshowed interview letter and ID (really professional, courteous and friendly with my kids) and then checked in with my N400 interview notification letter. They gave me a form to fill in with my name etc. For to prepare the naturalization certificate.

I was called in 5 minutes later and my husband and kids waited in the waiting area. The Officer Interviewing me was really friendly,  said hi,  how are you.. followed by "what is all that? " referring to the notebooks of evidence. He seemed a little surprised and I answered him with the letter said to bring evidence and original documents.  He smiled and said ok and asked if i was ready for the interview.

I was sworn in and he started the interview by verifying my name,  Date of birth etc with my drivers license, green card and latest passport.

    He wanted to know:

how i entered the USA (k1 fiance visa), how long have i been in the US,

how long i lived at each address,

Who lives at our present address (Hubby, kids, dog and I)

How long we were married (asked for certificate)

Is my hubby a citizen (asked for certificate)

    Any kids (asked for certificates)

How many times each of us were married.

Confirmed if i had travelled out of the country since submitting the application And wanted to know the reason for my trips out of the US.

He asked What I do for a living/how i support myself financially.

What is my hubby 's occupation, how long he'd been in that profession and at his current job, who was his employer.

Then we did the testing section, i had to read a sentence

"Canada is north of the U.S."

Then he dictated a sentence for me to write "The U.S. is South of Canada"

The civics part luckily i got the first 6 questions correct and he stopped that part.

Then continued to go through the application - a series of yes/ no questions. And had to sign some forms.

Then i got a paper stating that the interview process being recommended for approval.

He made a copy of my drivers license and walked me out.

It was a great experience and I was totally over prepared with all the evidence.

Hopefully the wait for the letter for the oath ceremony wont be too long.

Thanks for all your posts and updates it really helped me prepare and calm my nerves!!!

Good luck I hope things speed up & everyone gets their interviews soon!
