  1. Hi again :)

I have filed my reentry permit application with a expedite request a while ago.
The Biometrics appointment should be just around the corner.
Can anyone tell me how long after receiving the biometrics notification i can expect the actual appointment to take place?
I assume since i requested to expedite the process it wont be too long.
But how long do i have to expect to wait?

Id need to know to let my employer know.

    Cheers and thanks in advance.

    Luke

  2. Hi there

Ive been asking about reentry permits for a while, and now i have encountered another issue.

I am trying to pay the fees, but it seems you can only pay with a US account.

I live in canada and because i became a permanent resident through the DV Lottery i have not lived in the states yet, or have a bank account there.

Do i have to go and open a account in the states, or is there another way?
Maybe go pay at the US consulate and only attach a receipt or something?

    Any advice would be helpful.

    Thanks!

    Luke

  3. Hello everyone... its me again.

Another question about my I-131 filing.

    But first backstory.
I work in animation, i work for Visual Effects or Animation companies.
I was planning on finding a job somewhere in California where 90% of the animation jobs are.
About a month ago Dreamworks closed its Redwood City office PDI which flooded the market with people who have similar or higher skills than me.
Although i had planned to move to the states in spring, ive found myself in the situation of not finding any work, because of this closure and the flooding of the market with extremely high value artists.

Now. I have to reconsider to apply for a reentry permit again, since there are a lot of opportunities in Canada that could keep me afloat.
But in the instructions it says that i have to be physically present in the United States when i file the form.
Does that mean i cant send it from Montreal where i currently live?

I mean... do i actually have to drive down to the states which luckily is only a 45min ride, just to drop the envelope into a mailbox?

The thing is, since i won the DV lottery and then received my Green Card last August, i have never lived in the United States.
How am i supposed to be physically present? :)

  4. I have entered the states twice since i got the card, (once only as a layover at JFK) so it might have been because of that.

But since i have proof that i had to finish a contract and that now finally i will settle over, you made me confident that its gonna be ok :)

  5. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe a reentry permit is needed if you plan on staying outside the States for longer than a year. So August to April would mean you're still in the green zone then.

Yeah thats what i thought too, but then the guy at the border told me to get one since its more than 6 months.

So im basically asking here to be able to gauge whether my particular reasons will pass at the border or whether i really have to get a reentry permit.

  6. Hey everyone

I have another question regarding the I-131.
Ive been working in Canada for 4 years and received my Green Card last August.

Currently im finishing up a work contract here in Canada and im planning on settling over to the states in April.
Now when i went on a trip to California in November, a border agent told me that i should get a reentry permit to make sure i dont loose my Green Card.
He also told me, that i can file it online since i currently live abroad.

I searched quite a bit on the USCIS website, but couldnt find an online filing option for cases like mine.
    Now here are my questions:

    - Do i ABSOLUTELY HAVE to get a reentry permit?
Wouldnt having just paid my taxes, the explanation with the finished work contract in canada AND having a adress where ill live etc. be enough for them to let me through?

    - Do you know if online filing is possible? If yes, can you please explain to me where to do it?

Worst comes worse, since i live in Montreal, i could still file it by mail and just cross the border for the biometrics and stuff. But id still have to cross the border... which is kind of a paradox since im getting the Reentry Permit to be able to cross the border without issues.

    - Is it possible to do all the filing at the US consulate here in Montreal?

A bit of advice would be really appreciated!

    Happy new year everyone!

  7. Hi there

I just got my police clearance letter for the time i spent in Toronto.

Now, the letter says that there were no records found for my name, but clear confirmatin can only be given by doing a full background check with fingerprints.

Is this necessary? Or is the clearance letter enough?

Thanks and happy new year by the way!

  8. Hey

    Sorry, i think you misunderstood...

This is the DV visa thread... right?

So i am wondering because i am having my DV Visa interview in march... thats my question... after the interview i have to enter the US within 6 months... (or so i thought)

but my contract here in MTL ends 7 months after the interview...

so... would it be possible to enter the US in time to not loose my Green Card, but then leave for 1 month to finish the contract before returning for good.

Hope this was now formulated clear enough.

  9. Hey guys...

I have a little question here.
So it looks like im going to have my interview in March. Which means, ill have to enter the US in September at the latest, right?
Now, at the moment it also looks like i am going to work on a Project here in Montreal thats gonna last until next October...

Do you guys think that it would be possible to enter the US in September, maybe move some stuff over on a weekend, then go back to Montreal for a month, to finish the project and my contract, and then definitely move to the US...

Would they take the card away from me for that?

  10. Hey

Im swiss, and i won this year as well.

    I live in Montreal.

So if you have any questions or just want to connect, let me know :-)

My case number is 13XXX but i sent my forms suuuper late because i didnt see the notification that i won hahaha.

So sharing our experiences would actually be really nice.

    Hopp Schwiz! :-)

  11. Hey everyone

Im one of the lucky selected people for the DV-2014 visa.

Now i looked at the Visa Bulletin here and i have NO idea what means what, and even whether im looking at the right link.

    My number is around EU-13000

If someone could try to explain to me how to read that bulletin so i could figure out when its my turn (once they post the new numbers in october)

    id be really greatful.

Is there also a way to figure out if it makes a difference that im from Switzerland?

I have a EU number, but Switzerland isnt part of the Union... so i thought that maybe Swiss applications have their own quota...

Thanks for the help in advance!
