  1. Hi! Kinda freaking out here…..

My husband’s wallet was stolen. His green card was in it. We are scheduled to leave for the UK in 3 weeks. He has already filed the i-751 and we received the letter stating that his status has been extended for a year. I am just nervous about returning from the UK and re-entering the US without the actual green card. He has his UK passport, and we have the extension letter – will that be sufficient to re-enter?

I am going to make an INFOPASS appointment just to make sure, but I wanted to check with the forum to see if anyone has encountered this type of situation before so calm my nerves beforehand. (I will also provide an update when I get more information too.)

    Thanks!

  2. I'm sure he will be fine! Nothing wrong with double checking your documents if it relaxes you though that's how I kept reassuring myself I was ready. smile.png

He was fine! And he got approval today! Wooooo!

  3. I'm really disappointed to hear this news as well. Nich-Nick has been such an asset to this community. She has been so patient and understanding with answering questions from people, questions that probably get asked many many times, over and over and each time, she's come in and replied fairly and informatively. I even told her that I was so appreciative to her that I'd buy her a Starbucks gift card when we got our approval. Well today, we got our approval and I've got a Starbucks card with her name on it!!

This forum has been so informative. I know I wouldn't have been able to navigate the K1 process without it. She was a huge part in making me understand it all.

I hope that she does what's best for her, but I know that if she leaves for good, she'll be greatly missed. It'd be great to see her come back!

  4. Congratulations on your approval!!! dancin5hr.gif You must be over the moon!

My fiance's interview is TOMORROW - we're going through the whole nervous/anxiousness time right now and I'm trying so hard to be calm for him.

Reading that we'll be fine is reassuring! I'm like you...always worrying, and I think he's checked the documents over 6 times today!

    Congrats again! :)

  5. My fiance is ready to schedule the medical exam. We have all the documents ready and he's completed the DS-160. He was just here visiting and I sent him back to England with the completed Affidavit of Support and docs that show income info. I'm looking through the London embassy website and I can't find where it says that we need to mail anything - only that he has to bring copies of documents to the interview and that he has to email them a "Notice of Applicant Readiness" form after he's scheduled the medical. Soooo what does he need to mail?

  6. My lovely fiancé has acquired a massive (and I mean massive) vinyl collection. I feel that since he is moving his whole life across the world for me, it's only right for him to be able to bring some of the vinyl with him. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can go about doing this? Or any companies they can recommend? Any help and advice would be appreciated! I'm aware this is going to be a smidge pricey, and that's ok, we're willing to pay a little extra if it will make him happy. Thanks!

  7. Did you send in the Decree Absolute or the conditional order?

The decree absolute is the paper that is stamped by the judge to say that you are now divorced and that you are legally able to enter into another marriage.

We originally mailed the conditional order. I didn't know anything about the decree absolute (until we got the RFE) so he went to the court today to request a copy of the Decree Absolute. It takes about 5 days and costs £5. Once he get's that, he'll scan me a copy, and I'll print it out (IN COLOR, with the seal ), highlight the important info and mail it back to the wonderful people at USCIS.

  8. My fiance and I have decided to get married at the courthouse relatively soon after he's entered the US...and then we will have a big reception at a later time. We want to get married as soon as possible so we can get the paperwork sent off for his green card. We don't have any family members contributing to the cost of our wedding/reception (which is fine) but since we will be shelling out money for the visa, moving expenses, and a flight, it seems that if we have a wedding/reception to pay for on top of that, it's going to be a smidge tight for a while. This way, it'll give us some time to save and we'll have time to plan it together! Good luck on whatever you decide to do! Remember it's your day, so make your decison on what you (and your fiance of course) want to do...I feel like that's a pretty important thing to remember! heart.gif

  9. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I really appreciate all the feedback. This forum has been such an awesome resource, I really don't panic when something comes up, because the advice on here has been great. I will have my fiance go and get the copy and have him send me a color scan of it and then I will highlight the info and mail it off. I've read that people have gotten their approvals shortly after responding to the RFE (providing they gave the info correctly and all the stars aligned!) so I'm really hopeful that this will be a minor hiccup in the process. (Fingers crossed and wishful thinking!!!!)

    Thank you again! :)

  10. don't send a copy of it..they must be able to feel that raised seal...Im sooo glad this all is behind us..I still shake my head at the mistakes we made..he would be here now if we had did it right the first time...

Ok, I'll send the original. Thanks for the advice! I shake my head at the mistake too, we sent a letter from his divorce attorney and a copy of some sort of divorce info, but now I know we have to get the decree absolute and send it. *sigh* I know this process can be so frustrating and tiring at times. I know it'll be worth it in the end, and if this is the worse thing that happens during this whole process, then I'll consider it a minor speed bump and know it could always be worse!

  11. Just went thru this too..you need to get a certified copy from the courthouse where the divorce took place. get 2 certified copies send 1 and you keep the other smile.png

Thanks! He's going to go to the court on Monday to get a copy. Can he just scan it and send it to me or does he have to mail me the original and then I have to send the original? Shouldn't a copy be fine because all the other docs we sent were copies.

  12. I got the RFE letter today and it says, "The divorce decree submitted does not show evidence of being civilly filed, signed by a judge, or recorded. As such, the peripheral is requested to submit a legible copy, including all pages of the final divorce decree that shows proof of filing that terminated the prior marriage."

Has anyone else had this or knows what info to send? Help please!

  13. the embassy has a list of panel doctors and you'd need to go to them only. You can however do your vaccinations at your local doctors and bring the records to the panel doctor. That's how they do it in Malaysia and so far, the panel doctor hasn't had any problem in accepting records of previous vaccinations. Do check with your panel doctor if that's the case for London as well. Cheers!

Cheers! I will have him check with his doctor to see if they can get his vaccination records to bring with him for the medical.

Patience is a virtue even though it is hard to be patient. Trust me I have been there.

    Good luck!

THANK YOU! Patience is definitely a virtue through this whole process! It's really great to come to this forum to get questions answered. It's good to know that I'm not alone in this journey, and others have gone through the exact thing I'm going through!

It's been a while since I went through the CR-1 process at the London Consulate (early 2011), but as far as I remember, the Consulate wanted you to have the medical completed prior to the interview. If you happened to go to the interview and you hadn't had your medical yet, they wouldn't process your paperwork that day and wouldn't conduct the interview until you had completed the medical, so they would ask you to reschedule the interview.

I remember they changed the rules a couple months before we underwent the process, as they used to allow applicants to have the medical and the interview on the same day, and they would just delay issuing the visa until they received the applicant's medical file from the clinic (which takes about a week). I imagine this way must have been more complicated for them logistically speaking, so they must have decided to make it easier for themselves (and harder for applicants...).

So yes, it sounds like he may have to travel to London and back twice - I know it's a pain, but better safe than sorry. Good luck with your visa!

Thanks so much! Better to be safe than sorry is the way to go!!! :)

  14. Thanks for the links PerditaD! That was just the info I was looking for! :)

Most of the UK applicants had to travel to London and back twice....more expense but nothing you can do about it I'm afraid.

Sadly, that's what he's going to have to do! He lives in Wolverhampton, so it's a shame that he is going to have to travel to London twice. :( The things we do for love, huh? It's such a bummer that given the price this visa costs, and the time and effort we're put into it, that someone...somewhere couldn't just make the process a smiiiiidge easier for everyone involved! Oh well! :)

  15. My fiancé and I were talking about the medical process and I was telling him that he will have to go to London for the medical. We think its a bit unsual for him to have to go to London just for a medical when he has a personal doctor in his town. Can't his doctor just do the medical? Also, is it possible for him to schedule the medical and the interview side by side that way he doesn't have to go back and forth between his town and London? Thanks in advance!

  16. Thanks duraaraa! smile.png

Yes, I think you have enough to get approved. It proves you met which is the main proof they are seeking, well that and that you are a USC (birth certificate) , and both are free to marry and intend to marry (two letters of intent).

Thanks for all your help - I'll leave out the Mamma Mia tickets even though they have his name on them we should have taken a pic outside the marquee! Oh well...in the scheme of things, that part isn't really going to matter.

The visit in 2011 was June 2011 so it's almost 2 years but not quite...

I'll label the hotel info...the bar purchase receipt just shows the last 4 of my credit card, so I just made a copy of the card I used and blocked out the first 12 numbers...

I do have signed letters from both of us saying that we are free to marry and intend to marry once he enters the US with the visa so we should be ok there!

I just don't believe in front loading with convos and emails when the factual proof is there...did you send any of those when you originally sent your stuff?

  17. Here's a list of the items that I'll be sending along for the K-1 visa. I have a few copies of emails and Skype conversations but they are sporadic as my fiancé and I spend most of the time talking on the phone. Is it better to just include a few emails to prove that we've been in our relationship for so long? I'm more inclined to keep the packet short and simple because I don't want overkill with convos and emails, I feel like the proof is in the pudding. :)

Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance!

4 pages of pictures of us, including a picture of us with his mom and him with my sister and brother in law

Copy of pages from my US Passport to show I visited him twice 2011 and 2012

Copy of Hard Days Night Hotel receipt - purchased by him, Bar purchase by me from 2011

Copy of Mamma Mia Tickets - purchased by him from 2011

Copies of boarding passes when I visited him last December

Copy of pages from his UK Passport to show when he visited me twice 2012 and 2013

Copy of US Airways Boarding pass when he visited

Our "Facebook friendship" - it shows a timeline of places we've checked in together as well as photos and it shows mutual friends, his family and my family

    Engagement Ring Receipt

    Is this enough?

  18. It's my understanding that you don't HAVE to file AOS within a certain period. But the (expensive) physical he will have to do for the K-1 is only valid for one year.

Tell your fiance to be prepared to not leave the country for AT LEAST 3 months. Can he make someone his power of attorney in England? It would be a pain to have to abandon this whole process because of the sale of a house.

PS - pick up a time-consuming hobby . Or all the waiting will drive you crazy! Good luck!

Thanks for all the info!!! Is the cost of the physical the same for each country, or does it vary? Is there a site I can find the costs? Sorry for all the questions!

I will tell my fiance he'll have to make his brother the power of atty just in case, which won't be a problem!

I do need to get a new hobby! I can be kinda impatient...which I know isn't going to be ideal for this process! One day at a time...wink.png

  19. cost is $1070...

i had to wait abit after our wedding to get the funds.. it was a month after her i-94 expired

Holy moly, it costs $1070 to get the Green Card! I knew it was going to be an expensive, but yikes! Now it's time to start saving every penny so we can afford this. Aye yai yai, it's a good thing I love this man so much! :)

Thanks so much for the info! I'll make sure he knows that he needs to finish up everything as soon as the K-1 visa is issued to us.
