  1. Hello everyone,

I have a question and would be happy if there is anyone that can give insight to this. My husband was married to a lady in Nigeria who passed away and this was a traditional marriage and in the eyes of the law this type of marriage isn't recognized. We just had our AOS interview and the officer said he should prove that the marriage was legally terminated. We have contacted Nigeria and the marriage registry said since there is no marriage certificate they wouldn't be able to provide any document to stating that he is free to get married else where.

What can we do in this case? He is no longer in contact with the relatives of the deceased wife and can't get the death certificate.

    Thank you in advance

  2. Just to give a quick background, my fiancé is going to school in Finland but is from Nigeria, he had his interview on Wednesday, 2/12 in Helsinki. I was able to be in Finland with him and waited down stairs in a café while he was going through the process. He had to bring with him his Finn bank statements from November 2012 to present. We had compiled more than enough evidence and all of documents were complete. He said that the woman shot off about 30 questions in quick succession in which he answered without hesitation, she asked him if he worked and he told her "yes", which he does, and she asked him why he was in Finland, and he told her because he was going to school. She asked him more question on these two subjects, went back to the back we think to speak to her supervisor and when she returned she told him that they need to "verify" or "get more information" he could not remember which she said, and that she would get back to him in a "couple of days". She said "we are going to keep all of your documentation", he told her ok and he reached out to take his passport and she said "no I'm going to keep that too". As of today we have yet to hear anything, it has been a little over a week; on the CEAC site it shows "no status". I would really appreciate any input from any of you as to what you think, are we in a AP, since they kept everything, I have read on VJ that's a good sign because if they were going to deny it would of happened right there and then, we should just be patient, or should I write them……please advise us.

  3. My fiance sent off his check list for the embassy in Helsinki on Tuesday and he received an email today for an interview on Monday, this is to fast for us since I want to be there. In the email they are asking him for his 2012 bank statements. My question is why are they asking for this when I'm the sponsor. Can anyone shed any light on this for me.

    Thank you

  4. My fiance and I have just had his case sent to the embassy, and we were talking about the medical he will have, we admitted to taking a hit off of a joint back in July. Of course I am throwing a fit and he is wanting to know what type of testing do they typically perform. Has enough time passed where it is no longer detectable, he is telling me that because of his metabolism and the fact he is skinny and plans to drink plenty of water, we have nothing to worry about.

  5. I need help with two issues:

    1. We received our case # on 11/4 from NVC. I have been calling everyday to see if the file has left on its way to Finland and it has been "no". Today the lady told me that it is going through necessary administrative process and I asked her if this was normal for everyone and her reply was yes. Is this true, and I was told the case does not stay at NVC much after the case # had been issued. Is there a typical time frame that they hold on to a file?

    2. I am getting the paperwork ready for when package 3 arrives and on the I-134 they want a letter of employment, but that is my issue. I just got an email from our HR department, and they told me that it was company policy that do not do "letters of employment". I have check stubs, my bank statements showing direct deposit from my employment and I can even print out the email of them refusing the VOE. They said that the embassy can call our verification number and send a form with my signature and dated and supply a fax number and they will send something that "yes" I work there. Please any advice I can get will be greatly appreciated

  6. I was just sitting here reading the recent post and decided to call NVC and to my major surprise, the woman that answered started asking question and then asked what she could do for me and I asked if there was a case number yet, and she replied "yes there is". My NOA 2 approval was on Oct 1, when I called on Friday 5 minutes before they closed it wasn't there and now it is, so we are one day shy of 5 weeks. For all of you that are ready to give up don't, it will happen! On to the next!

  7. We received our NOA2 on October 1 and we are getting together our paperwork but I have a question about the police certificate.

I have read that you need a police certificate from every place you have lived for more then 6 months since the age of 16.

My fiance is living in Finland and has lived there for 13 months now, we have already applied for that one, but he is a Nigerian national and has lived there up intil he went to Finland. He tells me that they don't really keep any kinds of records like that and now that he is not there how would he go about getting one.

I would really appreciate any advise in this matter

    Thank you

  8. We were just approved with our NOA2 on 10/1/13, and I am starting to put together the necessary paperwork everyone suggest to work on. I read on another thread that as of 9/1/13 the DS230 needs to be electronically filed with NVC. Another question is, has the I-134 be replaced with form I-864. I am following step by step guidline to the letter but is there anyother information that I need. Thank you for your help.

  9. I received an email at 7:45, California time stating that we were approved for our NOA2. I still am speechless and unfortunately by baby's internet is down so I cannot even tell him the good news wow.gif LOL. I would like to thank all of you for the support and advise you gave me here when I was concerned about our age difference and him being Nigerian and attending school in Finland. Good luck all of you, now to the next stepluv.gif

  10. Thanks to all of you for your replies, I followed the VJ's members suggestion on the evidence that I front-loaded. Letters, photos, letter via snail mail, email, copies of my passport, copied of my flight information, all of your guys suggestion, I sent it. I visit with his family on skype all the time, we do a conference with them on a regular basis, but to have seen them in person - no. We had planned a trip for me to come to Nigeria but unfortunately the labor strike happened on the island and closed the airports and be had to abandon our plans.

I have read the reviews for Finland and they are all positive, he recently had a friend from Nigeria also studing there in Finland that was approved but do not know if it was a K-1 or CR-1, but whatever the case if not approved for the K1 we will get married and apply for the CR-1.

He understands that he will not be able to work or go to school until his status has changes and he is ok with that, if in the end we have to apply for the CR-1 by the time that is approved he probably will be done.

I'm hoping I will get our NOA2 soon and I will make my plans to attend the interview, all I can say is I love this name more than I have ever loved before and I will do what it takes to prove that, so your responses are valuable to me and I appreciate them.

  11. Thank you for the replies, YES! we are so much in love with one another and do meet the requirements of a bonafide relationship. We were together for about 3.5 years before we met and it was unfortunately my job working 16 - 18 hours a day kept me from visiting sooner, I found myself temporarily on disability because of the job and with that I took the opportunity to visit. He has just stated his 2 year of studies and wants to continue where he leaves off once he gets to the states and we are settled into our new lives.

  12. I just read the post on the woman who is 40 yrs older than her Nigerian fiance, let me tell you mine. My fiance is Nigerian and we are 24 years apart, we have been together for more then 4 years now. Although he is a Nigerian national he is currently living and going to school in Finland. I went to see him this past December and stayed with him for a month. We filed for a K-1 on May 13, 2013, and received our NOA1 on May 17, 2013, after reading all the post from everyone I was a little disheartened. We have talked at great lengths about the uphill battle that we are facing because he is from Nigeria. I plan on attending the interview when we get to that step and if for some reason it does not go our way I will be flying to Finland and we will marry and file for the CR-1 and he will continue attending school.

One of the questions I have is, now that he is in Finland does that play to our favor, since it is not about getting out of Nigeria, "high risk country". I would appreciate as much input and advise that you can give.

    Thank you
