I filed my AOS and EAD in August 2013. Got my NOA on August 8 and then after going for my biometrics, I received my EAD card in October 2013. However, on December 15th, I got a notice of potential interview waiver. It's been almost four months since that notice and I haven't heard a thing. My case status still shows "acceptance" on the USCIS website. Anyone else with a similar situation?

Have you and your husband traveled to other countries on vacation? If the answer is no, then I can tell you that is the main reason why you were denied the tourist visa. A lot of times, consular officers are often suspicious of young people who want to make the USA their first tourist destination. They want you to prove beyond doubt that you plan to return to your country after they issue you a B1/B2 visa. So unless you show them that you have a VERY lucrative job that you are not willing to abandon, then one of the ways you can prove that you plan to return is if your passport shows that you have visited other countries as a tourist and ultimately returned back to Nigeria. My advise is that rather than waste money apply again and again with the possibility of rejection (which is highly possible in your case), apply for another country's visa and take a vacation there so your passport gets stamped. Then reapply for US B1/B2 visa upon your return. You stand a better chance of proving you are not an intending immigrant this way. Goodluck

As explained by Belinda63, it is better to file the I-485 with I-765. Besides the fact that the I-765 is free when filed with I-485, it gives your spouse a longer time to work while waiting for the green card. Also, if you file only I-765, there is no guarantee that it will be ready before your spouses's I-94 expires (90 days after entry into the U.S)

Thanks guys. Your responses are all very helpful and deeply appreciated

Hi everyone, I am currently adjusting from K-1 to GC and i have done my biometrics for AOS and EAD. However I would like to know if its possible to do volunteer work without pay while awaiting your EAD. I am honestly bored and tired of sitting around with nothing to do. So please advise if I am allowed to work as a volunteer WITHOUT PAY or if it will be considered a violation if i do.

Thanks Keziah90210...finally got a response that might help. If its close to Cincinnati, that would be awesome. Will give them a call to find out

Thanks. Already saw that thread before. Nothing useful to me as per my state(kentucky)

And who is to say an immigration lawyer wont make a mistake? After all,no one is perfect. Unless you have a criminal record or some past immigration problems,I will suggest you follow the guides on VJ and do it yourself. Your fiancee cant work until she gets her EAD,so let her arrange and prepare the documents for the AOS. That should keep her busy. I know handling all the paperwork can be overwhelming, but it is really easy once you follow the guide and it will save you from spending money for a lawyer. If you however insist on a lawyer,I can be your lawyer and collect the money...just kidding. lol. All the best

Hi everyone. For those in Kentucky, please i need help getting a civil surgeon for my form I-693 for AOS. Already have my vaccine records from K-1 visa, just need it to be transcribed by a civil surgeon but am having trouble getting one in Kentucky. Called a few of those listed on the USCIS website but some want me to undergo full testing again while others say they only transcribe for Refugees. Any suggestions about civil surgeons in other states that can do this via fax is also welcomed. Thanks

Like most people already said, filing for B1/B2 visa will be a waste of money. I did that and was denied because according to the immigration officer, you are not allowed a non-immigrant visa if you have a pending immigrant petition. Even though I already had a previously expired American visa, they said I will have to wait to hear the result of the K-1 petition. We filed in october 2012 but didn't get approved until may 2013. Some cases are slower, some are faster. I know the wait is hard, just be patient and pray. It will come soon

Its been one month after our K-1 petition was approved and we have received the hard copy of the notice from VSC. However, our petition still hasn't reached NVC. Called NVC a couple of times to ask 4 our immigrant visa case number and they insisted that they haven't received our case from USCIS -vermont service center. Finally,my fiancé called VSC again to ask why they haven't sent our petition to NVC and when they would. All they did was give him this number TIF1501302200WKD and said they would contact him in 5days. We don't even know what the number is for. Please, can any1 who has gone through a similar experience tell me what this means?

Thanks a lot!!! Good to know there's someone I can relate to on this. God bless u tooYes, my friend i am at this stage now . Once you email Lagos they should send you details about paying your visa fee to GT Bank. you will print that email sent and take it the bank along with you LGS number. The receipt that your fiance gets from paying will be used to schedule your appointment online. In the email that Lagos will send you will be packet 3 documents. If you want you can get those forms ahead of time at http://travel.state.gov/visa/forms/forms_1342.html . Just read our embassy info guide and it will tell you what forms are needed.God bless and Good luck.

Because you have it all wrong. In Lagos now you schedule your own for K1. There are steps to take like your packet 3.
Have you emailed the Embassy yet? Do you have your case# from NVC? You could have been assigned months ago. I would get on that now.
Thank you so much. Its a relief to hear that one can now schedule one's k-1 interview in Lagos via email. To answer your question,no I haven't received my case number from NVC yet. I received an email from USCIS telling me my case has been approved but am stil waiting on the hardcopy of my NO2. I read people's timeline in Lagos and saw most of them wait for 3months after NO2 for their visa interview and I panicked. I will call NVC to ask for my LGS no. Please can you tell me about the packet 3 and 4? What do they contain and do I have to wait for lagos consulate to send them to me b4 my interview.?
-
dwheels, is right! please call (NVC) 603-334-0700 ,give them your case number from VSC and they will give you your LGS case number. After you have the LGS number email LagosIV@state.gov and give them your details along with this LGS number .They will give you your next steps on how to schedule the interview online.Good luck.
Really? You can email them to schedule your k-1 visa interview? This is great news. Thanks a lot. Please can u enlighten me on packet 3 and 4. What do they contain and do I have to wait for Lagos consulate to send them to me?
-
I don't understand why it takes 3-4months for nigeran consulate to schedule visa interview after NVC sends them your approved petition. One would think that the long wait was over after waiting 7months. But no,you have to endure another long wait. This is so frustrating

Wooow, congratulations!!! That was about a 1-month turnaround between RFE notice and approval which is awesome
I hope my RFE gets handled that quickly as well (and everybody else here!)
Cheers
Thanks, I was worried when I heard decison could take up to 15-60 days after submitting response to RFE,but ours came exactly 12days after they acknowleged receival of our RFE response. Yours will be just as fast!!!

After 215days!!! Fianally got the email I have been waiting for. APPROVED!!!
-
Wow! I just got an email saying our petition has been approved and a mail has been sent to the address provided. 6th May,2013. Can't explain my joy. Go VSC!!!!

Hi, everyone. We got a RFE.they needed my fiance's passport photo and his form 325a(which I know we submitted with d earlier petition). Also both our letters of intent to marry. And then they said our proof of meeting was not sufficent(we forgot to write our names, date and place of meeting on the back of the photos we sent earlier)
Apr 3rd: 1st RFE email
Apr 5th: 2nd RFE email
Apr 10th: received hardcopy of RFE
April 15th: mailed a response back
April 19th: received email saying our response to RFE has been received by USCIS
While getting an RFE can be frustrating,I guess its a good thing since it means someone is working on your case plus you get a chance to correct your errors. Hopefully they will attend to April RFEs fast!

Hi fellow october filers. I am new here and started reading these posts a few days ago and I definately agree with all that the wait is frustrating. Howerver, I must say that reading your different expereiences and seeing that am not the only one who is waiting anxiously has been comforting. For those of you whose petitions have been approved,I am happy and jealous. For those who are still waiting like me,well...the wait continues. Here is a timeline of my journey so far
Oct 4th: date of NOA1
Apr 3rd: email RFE
Apr 5th: 2nd RFE email
Apr 10th: received hardcopy of RFE
Apr 15th: mailed back a response
Apr 19th: got email from uscis saying our response has been received
For the RFE,they wanted my fiance's passport photo(which I thought we already sent) and they said the evidence of our meeting was not properly established(we didn't write d dates and place on the back of the photos we sent earlier). Also, they needed our signed letters of intent to marry within 90days of my arrival in the US. After fuming for the entire day and wishing we had everything right d first time,we gathered all they requested and double checked before mailing our response. Now they say our wait could be as long as 60days! I sure hope it is way less than that. Oh! am a VSC filer too,so fingers crossed!

I got my green card in the mail on Friday 11th April without an interview. Just checked my case status and saw it's been updated. Call USCIS, they should be able to give you a more accurate update on your case status than the website
