  1. Hi everybody,

just checking in to see how things are going for all of you. :)

    MistyB,

Dang, I'm so sorry to hear about your troubles :( 8 years is a long time, but at least you tried to make things work. It really sucks that you now have to deal with this.... biiig hug to you, I hope everything works out for you the way you want it to.

    Vicky,

hallooo... hehe, what are you doing :P I bet you are smiling from ear to ear right now.

As for me, I've been here for about 1 month and... 2-3 weeks now, things are moving along as I'm trying to adapt. I got my drivers license and have been looking for a job, no luck so far but with the Christmas craze coming up, I'm thinking that I might have a shot somewhere, even if it's just for that month :P

I got everything by now, my SSN and my Green Card. Ofcourse my Green card had to be corrected, it said CR-1 and was conditional, when it should really have been IR-1 because we had been married for over 2 yrs the day I got my Visa. So, I'm not done yet, I have sent it back and hoping that I sent it to the right place and that they'll correct it, we'll see... I'll keep you all posted :) keep your fingers crossed for me, that I sent it in and had the correct forms and stuff, you guys know how it is with immigration and paperwork

    Munchkins,

are you guys on the list yet? I'm hoping for a speedy approval for you guys

.... everyone else, hope everything is great :luv:

  2. Hi all,

I have a question to ask and am hoping that you guys could help me out.

    Some backup info first:

I got my immigrant visa and it said CR-1 because the day we started the process we had not been married for over 2 yrs. The day I entered the US, we had been married for over 2 yrs, yet the guy at the POE did not change it to IR-1 instead of the CR-1... I kept telling him that it was wrong and I should be processed as IR-1 and get a 10 yr greencard instead, but the told me to change it myself and he was very rude.

    Fast forward till today:

I just recieved my Green card and it's only valid for 2 yrs. I knew they would mess this up and now I have to change it myself, which is a bit confusing to me.

I found out that I need to send the I-90; description below

If you are filing because your card was issued with incorrect data due to USCIS administrative error, you must mail a new I-90 application using Application Reason "d" My card was issued with incorrect information because of a USCIS administrative error, and any supporting documentation, to the USCIS Service Center/National Benefits Center (NBC) that processed your previously filed I-90 application. For the Service Center/ NBC mailing address, please refer to the letter that came with your I-551 card, also known as "Green Card". This letter provides the address for the Service Center/NBC that processed your previously filed I-90 application. The Service Center/NBC address can also be found on the I-797 "Notice of Action" issued for the previously filed I-90 application. In addition to the new I-90 application, applicants are required to send the original I-551 card containing incorrect information, and documentation that supports the requested correction. I-90 applications submitted with Application Reason "d" do not require the $70 biometrics fee or the base application fee.

The highlighted part is what I don't understand, I live in Los Angeles, but the Greencard letter shows that it's from Texas Service center... so I should mail the I-90 form and my Green card back to them???

  3. Financial Aid is an investment, there was a thread about this in here awhile back. There are different kind of grant that are out there PELL, TAP and others to help the financial burden of studying. IT's all based on your income and in this case you and your partner as long as both of you meet the guideline it's fair game, It's different then PUBLIC ASSISTANCE< FOOD STAMP or someone trying to get Social security benefits

Thanks for the reply. I guess it means that it wont affect the co-signer of the I-864 affidavit of support, since it's not a public assistance :) That's great to hear .... otherwise, my co-signer would be very mad at me, if they went after him later on and demanded the money back

  4. Hi all,

hope you can help me out with this one, or share with me if you have any experience.

I have a few question regarding financial help with schools. ( I'm the immigrant and just came to the US.) At this moment, I was thinking about going to beautyschool part time, but the fee's are very costly. They do offer financial help for anyone that qualifies, and I was wondering if I qualify for the help based on mine and husbands income - will the signed I-864 have any affect on the outcome, since we had a co-sponsor (his dad) sign it ??

    Does anyone know :help:

  5. Hi all, hope you can help me out with this one:

I just recieved my SSN and I'm very happy ofcourse, but the thing is that part of my name is not on the card and I'm not really sure what to do.... let me see how I can explain it, for instance like the name LuAnn Anderson >> and the card only says Lu Anderson. Is that very wrong and do I need to change it?? I did and have always written my whole name on everything, and I always write my whole first name it at the FIRST NAME boxes and never use the MIDDLE NAME boxes.

If I do go to an office and change it, do any of you know how long it will take before I get a new one??

And can I still use the number for getting a drivers license and job while it is being corrected??

Has this happened to any of you before??? :help:

  6. Hi Tiff,

so glad to see that you're still around :)

Can't believe it's already been 2 weeks I've been here, time has really flown by fast. I'm still waiting for my SS# and the Green Card, need it before I can do anything... I have to look into getting a drivers license and looking for a job. I'm kinda excited about getting a job here, I wonder how it is working amongst Americans :P The work hours here seems to be very long though and almost no vacation time

Awww Tiff, you need to get yourself into the dating game again, I hope that you find a real sweetheart  Keep us updated, details and all ha ha ha J/K !!

And getting a puppy sounds like a good idea, keep you company and occupied, I just love animals. You should go to an animal shelter and get one, those poor animals really need a good home with a loving owner. I'm thinking about getting a kitten from one of those shelters some day.

Oh Vicky... what can I say, it's Tuesday already

    AAAHHHHH LONDON, where's Vicky's letter !!!!!!

I hope everyone else is doing well too - have a great day all :luv:

  7. After you do your research on this, decide if the hassle involved is worth $205 or more, the current filing fee for I-751.

Also see threads on the topic by Cndnwmn in the I-751 forum.

Hmm, not sure if I understand that about the fee's. It says on the uscis.gov page that the fee's for I-90 is : If you are filing for the following reasons, the base application fee of $190 and the biometrics fee of $70 are required. Total filing fee = $260.

but I dont have to pay a fee at all if it'sI-90 applications submitted with Application Reason "d" do not require the $70 biometrics fee or the base application fee.

I'm a bit confused, and it could be that I read it wrong and I do have to pay a fee...OMG  !! I hope not ...... sux.

  8. Hi all,

I hope someone can help me with this. It's about changing a CR-1 to IR-1 when the visa says CR-1 and you've been married for over 2 yrs. :help:

I already knew that I might have a problem with this, since my immigrant visa said CR-1..which was okay, since we had been married less than 2 yrs, when we started this process, but it still said CR-1 the day I recieved my Visa, and it was past our 2nd wedding anniversary.

The day I entered the US I had been married for over 2 yrs, which would automatically give me an IR-1 right?! At POE I asked the officer and made him aware of this fact, told him that it should be an IR-1 and not CR-1 as the Visa says, but he was very rude and told me that I had to remove the condition myself and change it to IR-1 etc etc. He, for sure wasn't going to do anything that day.

Well, I have been looking around and found that I have to file an I-90

    (description of I-90 below)

If you are filing because your card was issued with incorrect data due to USCIS administrative error, you must mail a new I-90 application using Application Reason "d" My card was issued with incorrect information because of a USCIS administrative error, and any supporting documentation, to the USCIS Service Center/National Benefits Center (NBC) that processed your previously filed I-90 application. Does this mean that I have to wait till I recieve the GC before changing it?? and that I have to send it back to them? And which of those addresses should I use?? It's all so confusing at the moment.... I have no idea whether to wait or to act as soon as possible :help:
