  1. I am very sorry to hear about your wife's interview. Its terrible she was treated that way. You have received good advice to try contacting the embassy and your senator. Were there any red flags in your relationship? Did you submit any other supporting documents to show your marriage ties or bonafide marriage? Like bank accounts? pictures? I don't know all the supporting documentation that can be used but if you are able to get another interview, you should prepare them.

  2. Okay brother and sister around the world. My Case is now in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. And even though they already got my case about a month and half ago, but still didn't get the interview letter or even packet 3. I always check my visa Status and it says below, but they always change the Statues updated date, it was June 8, and then July 3, and know july 16th, and still my status says ready only date changes.
I've send couple email to the embassy and they've never email me back. So what do you guys think? Did they already send me the letter, or they're going to, or should my fiane in addis ababa go to the embassy directly, or what I should do? Thanks for your Advice.
    Ready

Immigrant Visa Case Number: ABB421134288 04 ABB (this is not my correct case number.... Case Creation Date: 20-May-2013 Status Updated Date: 16-Jul-2013

Your case is ready for your interview when scheduled at the U.S. Consular section. If you have already scheduled an appointment for an interview, please prepare your documents as directed in your appointment letter and appear at the consulate on the appointed date and time. Otherwise, please wait until you have been notified of your interview appointment
  3. thanks for the very informative reply. this question came up because someone told me that her credentials (bachelor's degree) wont be accepted/recognized in the US, hence she would need to have/get a GED . But since you have cleared that up, then we dont need to worry about that.

her son is 18 and already done with highschool (he does have a diploma). He attended about a year of college (IT) one semester each at two different institutions (because we thought they would already be here by December 2012). We plan on enrolling him at a community college or university (whichever we can afford). However, someone said he may need a year of residency in the US first before he can avail of the in-state tuition rate and be eligible for any scholarships/grants, etc.

did you have to wait for a year before you started attending school in the US? or you just opted to attend highschool for a year then applied for comm college/university once you got the GED?

So does this mean, my fiance doesnt need to have a WES evaluation of her credentials to apply for a job?

Again, your response is greatly appreciated.

WES is one of many evaluation companies that can evaluate transcripts for US equivalency. Most community colleges and universities will require that transcripts are evaluated by an evaluation company that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or NACES. www.naces.org

Transcripts from the Philippines are normally in English you will not have to have them translated. You will however need to have her son's transcripts evaluated from a NACES company if he is intending on going to college. You will want to have a general evaluation completed for his high school transcripts and a course by course for the college courses he took in the Philippines since there may be a chance that he can transfer some of those credits.

She should not need an evaluation for employment unless she is using her bachelors degree from the Philippines as part of the job requirements where the company wants to verify her bachelors degree.

Also residency requirements vary from state to state. It is usually at least 6 months before someone can qualify for in state tuition rates. You may also find that most community colleges will not consider this time until he has adjusted status.
  4. Yes its too much of a headache especially nearing the end of this whole process. I tried calling the embassy but they would not tell me anything by phone and just kept sending me to email and I had to email so many times and wait 2 to 3 weeks to even get a response. It may have helped when my fiance went to the embassy to inquire about packet 3. They told him they had not received anything from NVC even though it had been a month since the petition was sent to them. I received a response from my email the day after he went so Im thinking that it was because he went in person to inquire.

It looks like your NOA2 was a few weeks after ours so I hope you have better luck with the embassy. I am now worried because the interview date is set so far out its after the validity date on the NOA2. I am afraid the embassy will deny us because it expires on August 1st and his interview is scheduled for August 8th.

  5. I am also going through the embassy in Addis Ababa. The embassy in Addis is very slow so I emailed them several times regarding receiving packet 3. It took them over a month from the date our petition was sent from NVC to mail it to my fiance. .

If you email the embassy in Addis be sure and use the ADD case number in the subject line and you will have to email them several times before you receive a response.

  6. I am having a similar problem with my petition that was also sent from NVC the week of May 14th. My petition was sent to the embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I was unable to get a response by email from the embassy and have been emailing them constantly trying to find out the status of my petition. I have called the embassy several times but they will not allow me to make an inquiry by phone. This week my fiance went to the embassy to find out the status and was told that the physical petition had not been received and that they did not show anything in their system regarding our case #. I finally received a returned email message from the embassy after he went there. The embassy still insisted that they had not received the petition.

I contacted NVC today and was told that the embassy will sometimes receive the petition but are not ready to schedule an appointment so they will say they have not received it yet!?

Today I was able to email a supervisor at NVC requesting tracking of my petition. Still waiting to hear back. This is so frustrating!!
