    Hi, congratulations!!!!

My case also transferred to NSC on 10th May. But I still hear nothing from them. How did you know you get approval on 7th Sep? Did you call them or receive the approval letter?

    thanks so much

We only found out when we received the approval letter in the mail.  I just checked the online status, and it still only shows the last action on 05/10, when it was transferred to NSC.

  2. Sadly, I've encountered this since the day I met my wife. In my experience (American man, married to a Ukrainian born woman) it's almost always American women who never have nice things to say. I just ignore them, but it gets old. I've lost count how many times I've been told "she just want's a green card", or she "is after your money" (if she is in it for the money, she is with the wrong guy!). My favorite was "THOSE girls take classes in grade school, on how to seduce american men"..My wife is very well educated, and speaks five languages, but I've been told, "a college degree from there is equivalent of high school here".

It seems everyone has a brother's friend's cousin, who married a FSU "mail order bride", and she took everything, killed his family, etc.. I've lost several friendships, even long term ones over our marriage, No matter that I'm happier than I've been in a long time with my wife.

When we decide to have a child of our own, my oldest son sided with his mother, and chooses to not be part of my family anymore, blaming my wife for some evil plan to seduce me, and control my life, because that's what women from overseas do.

Just ignore the haters, realize they are small minded, jealous people, be happy, and enjoy your life together.

  3. Hello all,

My wife entered the U.S. nearing two years ago, so It's time to send off her I-175. My minor step son followed just about a year later, because we had to wait for permission from the Ukrainian courts, for her to bring him here. That required separate CR petitions for each of them, and his green card expires 10 months after hers.

Does anyone know if we will need to file a separate I-175 for him in 10 months, or can we include him on my wife's I-175 now, even though his conditional residence won't expire until next year?

    Thanks!

  4. We took my step son out of school in Ukraine, a few weeks before the end of the last school year, no problems. They did ask for copies of our tickets (we gave them a copy of our PNR, since I work for an airline, and we were traveling on employee passes). They didn't put any grades for the final quarter in his record, but had we agreed to pay the "fee" they would have done that as well. No problems getting him enrolled in school here with what they gave us.

  5. Hello all,

We are about one week into the 60 day document review at the NVC, for my step son's visa. We recently learned that his grandmother, who he is staying with, and is his primary caretaker, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. She has started chemotherapy, and depending on her reaction to the drugs, she may not be able to take care of our son very well (he is 11).

We are considering asking for an expedite, but are curious if there are any downsides now. If it's denied, will it delay the normal processing of his application?

  6. I know it's hard, but try and focus on something else, to get your mind off of it. Last year my wife's I-130 took nine months, and another four till she had her visa in hand. Like watching a pot, waiting for water to boil, it can drive you crazy.

I used to get pissed, when I'd see approvals for people that filed after us, or the expedites getting finished in just a few months. I decided to take a break from VJ, that helped.

You will be through the process before you know it, and all the separation will be a distant memory.

  7. My wife's green card status changed to "optimized" on ELIS friday. Hopefully we will see her green card soon. Her social security card was not automatically sent, so we had to apply in person at the office. Still waiting for that to arrive.

Green card fee was paid June 16, she POE'd on July 11, at JFK.

  8. Rick,

All you can do is ask. Be sure to properly articulate and document the reasons you believe you qualify for an expedite.

Does your wife have sole custody of her daughter? Or will the father give permission for her to leave the country? My wife's ex had been absent for six years, never paid a dime of support, or had any contact with my step son, but we still had to go through the courts in Ukraine, for my wife to be awarded sole custody. Your step daughter (if she is a minor) will not be able to get a visa unless your wife has sole custody, or the permission of the other parent to leave the country.

  9. My step son's petition ended up at Nebraska, 04/15/2014 NOA1. I'll be surprised if we hear anything before the seven-eight month point. My wife's petition (filed last year, in May) took nine months. 14 Months total, from NOA1 to her having the Visa in hand. She wanted to wait until the court granted her sole custody, before we filed for her son.

I'll bet the April filers getting approved are all DCF, or expedites. The rest of us have just begun the wait.

  10. You would need to check with his bank. I use a credit union, and they would not put my wife on my account, without her having an ITIN or SSN. We did get an ITIN, so we could file joint taxes. They also required a "wet" signature on the application, no faxed, or emailed copies were allowed.

Natalya will finally be here on Friday (woohoo!), so we held off on doing anything until she gets her SSN.
