  1. Being also from Alaska I have not seen -25 for a long time but maybe you are far out somewhere. I feel sorry for your predicament but at the same time I have a strong belief that there should be a huge banner on the home page here to inform men about the income requirements before they get too far into this. Guys just do not look two months in advance. Lives can get ruined.

I only have one suggestion other than you both moving out of the country to a less expensive place, not even sure Ukraine would be a good choice, maybe Bulgaria.

It 'might' be possible, depending on the size of his pension to establish residency down south in the lower 48 states where the poverty level is lower. You can cut $5000 off the poverty level by living in the southern states. If he was looking ahead enough to get you an I.D. when you first arrived then you could travel there.

  2. It is all quite modern and similar to an airport security check. They will keep a bin of his/her things behind a counter until returning. Have her get an early start as it is not an especially easy address. We took two buses and walked a quarter mile, got lost once between buses. A taxi would have been better but you know how the women can be about those things.

  3. Well, keep in mind that the general time period for getting from the Kiev embassy to the Kiev TNT is 2 days and you can pick it up on the third. Using that standard we timed our K-1 interview this month for a Monday and the visa was there on Wed. We did get it that day but only because we raised hell about it being in so we should get it. TNT gets delivery at 5PM every day and supposedly they want an extra day for processing.

So the quickest you can do it would be sending it to the Kiev TNT and do some sightseeing for 3 days. YMMV and nothing is written in stone but it worked for me and has for others.

  4. Try Kayak, skyscanner and onetravel.com for starters as they can sometimes differ plus onetravel allows for checking multiple days making the search easier and Kayak allows for comparing other air sites. Kiev to Houston is under/around $1000 to Houston OW on Oct 1st (for example). The problem then is that many of the layovers require a transit visa. Aeroflot has good deals lately around $1000 but he would require a transit visa for Russia as they stop in Moscow. A Frankfort (if under xx hours) or Turkey stopover would not need one. Deals are usually better if booked a month in advance of course.

And, as said, you can also just buy a RT and cancel the return later.

  5. I have searched all over for an answer to a frequent question and not found one.

In some countries the women do not have middle names. Many of us use the Patronymic name as the middle name on all the paperwork

Within the intl. passport the Patronymic name is listed in the native alphabet but not in English and the DS-156 asks for the middle name 'as it is written' in the intl. passport.

I have asked UStraveldocs about this and they have replied that you put only the first and last names into the 156 in this case. You may then place the Patronymic name in the box for other middle names if you wish. By saying 'if you wish' I gather that even that much is not required.

So if you are searching for the answer to this question you will possibly find this.

  6. I brought this up last week. When we called they wanted the KEV number written on something official and were pretty adamant about it. They did say however that I could just write some paper with it and make it look a little official. After that I called NVC and asked them. They told me that they would be happy to send an email with the number. They never did send the email but did send a letter dated a week before I called and a day or two after the embassy had already noted the paperwork as ready. The NVC paper was basically what they send to others as soon as the number is given, saying that it is finished at NVC and would be leaving in another week. LOL

  7. I am reaching 60 yrs and lived overseas all the last decade on money I saved through business. I keep no assets in my name and only use banks to pay the monthly cc. For the K-1 I returned and went back to work for an old partner and good friend as a business manager. I worked most of last year for around $25,000 of a $30,000 income. I will have 3 quarters so far to show for this year out of my $30,000 income. That gives me 1 tax year and 3 quarters all above the requirements.

I am still worried. Worried because of my age, no assets in my name and the fact that my employment history is negative for the last decade. I prefer to live my life under the radar. That can be good and bad. On a different good side, my relationship also spans much of the last decade.

My employer is more than willing to be a co-sponsor but they deduct all expenses plus a few extra and keep the line 22 income down near zero. They are more than happy to put the company house up as an asset. Equity is over $300,000 on a $600,000 valuation. Also have a part time job for $6000 already set up for my intended.

    Questions:

Do you think I can get by on my own?

If not then will adding the one asset with a co-sponsor work?

  8. I recently scheduled a K1 interview date and was careful to print the interview confirmation and delivery pages. The way things go, I could not get a decent flight date afterwards so I rescheduled the interview. While at it I also changed the document delivery city from Kharkiv to Kiev. (Ukraine has pickup centers and you do not give a personal delivery address)

The problem is that while the new interview confirmation page has the updated delivery info on it, there was no new page to print for the document delivery. I am left with the old page.

I am assuming that this is normal, you only get one page and it does not matter what address is written on it as long as it has the bar code and the interview confirmation is updated but thought I should ask before I move past this.

  9. As follow up, on a second call to the med center with a different person answering, we are told that the NVC letter is not absolutely required and that the invitation for the interview will work just as well. It was also suggested that if nothing else was available then any type of official letter with the number printed on it would be fine. They suggested that I could make it myself. They just want something on paper. As usual, they are screwy. So we will bring the interview invitation. In a twisted Russian/Ukraine sort of way I get the feeling that they are simply trying to say that they do not want a person to come in giving the number from memory.

  10. I find it frustrating at times finding information. Searches end up with info from all over the world that does not pertain to Ukraine. Some answers contradict others even within Ukraine.

Our K1 paperwork is in transit now to the embassy and we have the KEV number. We called the medical center and asked all the questions.

First, they insist on making an appointment. In my mind some people may be able to just walk in and get it if it is not busy but they say you must make an appointment.

Second, they said just having the KEV number is not good enough. They want the NVC paper (or copy of it) which I hopefully will receive someday. Hopefully because some people here have written that they never got any paper from NVC.

  11. When I need to call Ukraine I get a very good connection to cell and land lines using googlevoice and it is fairly cheap.

One alternative that I have not tried but believe it would work would be magic jack. They would need to at least plug in the phone, crank up the computer, join the internet and open the program. With MJ they would be able to call you anytime they wished for free. The program is a basic phone interface. click on the numbers and enter.
