Donnaandjay, I don't really know why they would deny me entry..... I just heard of some canadian citizen entering back into montreal (from living in the UK for a couple of years), and the Canadians had her sign some papers stating that she no longer has anything to do with Canada....
I don't know anymore details than that, but was afraid, and just wanted to know what could happen at the borders......
So i should have nothing to fear if i say i've been gone for 4 yrs?
-
Hi everyone,
I'm a Canadian citizen, who started the AOS process IN THE US (through marriage to a US citizen) back in 2004... In the summer of 2005, I went to visit my family in Montreal for 2 months. I haven't been back there since then.
So I've got a question... I'm going back to Montreal very soon to see my family (after not going back since 2005), and wanted to know if I should be concerned about anything on the CANADIAN side when i enter borders... For instance, why do they ask how long I've been gone for (what is there to this question that i'm feeling uneasy about for some reason).... Do they get upset if i say i've been gone for 4 yrs, and why is it their business? Does it send them red flags when they see the stamp on my canadian passport showing i'm a permanent resident of the US?? Will they have a problem with the fact that I married a US citizen (my husband's not coming with me though)....
I'm just stressed out about leaving, so if anybody can ease my mind by telling me what should and/or could be asked and why, then that would be so great!
-
Keep trying until you get a new stamp or ext. letter.
If you leave with an expired greencard, that would be worse than waiting now.
I wouldn't worry about prices skyrocking - with the current state of the economy, they are practically begging people to fly.
Well when i pick another location, I am able to get an appointment but it's hours away from where i live, so I'm thinking that it could be that the memphis office is closed for renovations or something like that... But how can i be so sure when I can't even call them to know if they're open or not?
Do you think it's just something temporary, or could i really be trying for weeks on end?
-
Hi everyone,
I really need your help! My 1yr extension to the I-751 has now expired by about 2 weeks. I was about to book a flight yesterday to go on vacation but decided to wait until I figure out what needs to happen with USCIS... Yesterday AND today, i've been trying to make an infopass appointment at the Memphis office so that I can get my passport stamped, however I keep getting this message: "At this time, there are no information appointments available for the office in your area. Please try back again later."
I called USCIS to have them tell me if their site is down or what, but she said i just have to keep trying! I asked if I might actually be trying for months, because I needed to travel in a month, but of course, as you know, she couldn't provide me with any information but said to keep trying.
I just read horrifying stories about people in NY having to wait for months, and that some people make multiple appointments to sell to others...
Has anybody gone through what i'm going through? HOw long will I have to keep trying? I need to book my flight asap before the prices skyrocket!

We filed to lift conditions around the 10th of May 2008.
June 15: Appointement for fingerprints... Done.
Sept. 2: Another appointement for more fingerprints..... Done.
What could be the reason why they thought I needed to have 2 done? Could it be that my slight eczema on my fingers was the problem? I wouldn't think so...
To this day, all I have when i check the status is a touch on September 10th 2008 (1 wk after my second set of prints).

I haven't come to this forum since I received my conditional green card 2 years ago.. I didn't realize filing to remove conditions might be just as much of a headache as receiving the original conditional in the first place, until I read what kathryn41 said that "there's no understanding how some people get approved in 2 months and others are still waiting after 2 years."
Oh my God, this is insane! Getting my conditional was a crazy headache because USCIS kept saying for 1.5 yrs that they're waiting on me to reply to their RFE. I kept telling them that they never sent me anything, and they kept saying "ok, you should recieve it in 30 days..." and i never did.. I also told them at the time to simply tell me what furhter proof they were wanting since they clearly weren't sending me the stupid RFE letter... No go... Anyway, so after 2 yrs (1.5 yrs was THEIR FAULT), i finally got that conditional..
Now, i have a question.. My conditional expires on the 8th. I sent EVERYTHING (I-751) out today EXPRESS MAIL (with signature) for next-day delivery.... What if the USCIS agent picks it up from the post office on the 9th, or what if the officer finally looks into my file a few days or weeks or years after the 8th of may?
I find this odd behaviour for someone that was delayed so much in getting PR. Why did you wait til last minute to submit? Not that it is too late, mind you.
It's not really odd behaviour, it's called slacking off. Bad move, really really bad move! Anyway, the reality of the immigration process is really starting to kick in now, very hard, and the same stressful emotions are back!
So i sent my documents yesterday, and today, it was almost delivered...Here's the message USPS site says: Status: Notice Left
"We attempted to deliver your item at 11:41 AM on May 7, 2008 in MESQUITE, TX 75185 and a notice was left. A second delivery attempt will be made. If unsuccessful, we will hold it for five business days and then it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later."
I guess that was another bad move on our part. We never should have required the USCIS ppl to sign for it, bcz now i fear that they're going to feel lazy and not stand in line to pick up my letter, or perhaps they'll do it on purpose not to pick it up bcz they see it's EXPRESS mailed.

You will be fine. What will probably happen is that your package will be delivered tomorrow but it will be after USCIS has picked up their mail for the day. Since you require a signature, you will get a notice of an 'attempted delivery' which means that they will pick it up the morning of the 8th and sign for it then. If for some reason the delivery is delayed and it doesn't arrive until the 8th they will pick it up on the 9th but you have proof that it was there on time. They may not officially 'accept' the package for a few days or a week after its arrival, but you did get it to their physical address prior to the green card expiring. The official acceptance date is usually the day of or the day after the cheque or money order is cashed. You will be able to see when the cheque is cashed through your bank, and once that happens you can breathe freely. They will be processing your application.
In another post I listed an excerpt from the Field Adjudicator's manual that indicates they allow a 60 day grace period for late filers before they send out notices to deny and appear before immigration. You will be fine.
Thanks guys!
The post office clerk told me that the letter should be delivered tomorrow by noon! It didn't sound so bad, but i was just thinking that maybe the USCIS officer will get to my file some time after my deadline and he won't have the envelope with him anymore to see that i did technically file before my deadline... I'm freaking out now, we really thought we had until may 12 to file!
I called USCIS today about this dilemma and the lady kept saying that after my 90 days i will get a letter to be removed.
Kathryn, i tried searching for the info you provided in regards to that 60 days and couldn't find anything..

that's cool!
I dont know if you've been following our story, but we had our interview done on April 10th. The interview went so smooth (i also adjusted from being a visitor from canada).. But the problem was that our doctor had not checked off the boxes POS/NEG for syphillis and HIV.. The officer told us to bring it to him if we could the next day and he would process everything right then and there (he didnt' say if he meant approval or not though), and that if we couldnt make it the next day, then we would make an infopass appt and give it to the person there and once the officer receives the info, he will send our file to "them" , i dont know who he means....And THEY will send out a greencard
Im affraid we'll go thru another USCIS messup
I can't understand why they couldn't RFE us 2 yrs ago about the medical??!?
sowwy, just had to vent
-
The original comment made by Lostinlove should have been responded to at the time it was made. There should not have been a 10page thread just to attack the person!
-
congratulations!
Just wondering..why is it a 1yr greencard he gave u as opposed to 2??
-
Uhmm, i didnt go thru the fiance forms and all...Maybe that's why i dont remember a BROWN envelope...
One thing i can tell you is that 3wks ago when we did my AOS interview, the officer said we had to go back to the doctor and have him resubmit in a sealed envelope a new medical because the doctor didn't check off POS/NEG for syphyllis and HIV.
We had told the receptionist that we wanted a photocopy, but she said they don't do that anymore...Anyway, before SHE sealed the envelope, she called us to her desk and showed us the papers... Nothing impressive, it was exactly the same as what we originally had a copy of, except this time, he checked off NEG for both..
-
yup...no point in phoning, they won't tell you anything more than what the email tells you, or worse yet, they'll confuse you even more...That's why we call them the "Misinformation line".
I want to point out something though...It took us 10mths to receive our RFE! We had that same online notice you had, but USCIS never sent it to us. I kept calling USCIS to tell them to send it back, and they would say "Ok, i will send a request for it to be sent to you. If 30 days have passed and you have not received anything, give us a call back".. We went thru at least 9 "Ok, i will send a request and wait 30 days!" , until we said enough is enough and we went thru our congressman and the VERY SAME DAY THEY RECEIVED OUR LETTER, THEY CALLED US TO LET US KNOW THE INFORMATION USCIS WANTED FROM US!!
At one point in time, i was told by an immigration officer that i spoke to over the phone that my case should have been denied because 3mths have passed and i have not responded to their RFE..This tells me that nobody was even working on our case or even LOOKED at it for all this time to even think about denying us!
How incompetent! Just make sure you don't go thru what we did!
Another thing.. We had our interview 3wks ago and got RFE'd by the officer bcz the doctor forgot to check off the boxes for "Positive/Negative" for syphyllis and HIV.... I mean, couldnt they have RFE'd me a yr ago at the same time that they RFE'd me for my stupid birth certificate that i had already sent in initially with my AOS packet??!??!
All this told me that they were never working on our file.. How sad

Okay, here's my opinion on this situation..
Yes, it bothers me that illegal immigrants get their greencard quicker than me, who's done everything legally and am still waiting 2 yrs later!! I DO NOT HATE the illegal immigrants, as I am an immigrant myself (legal one though), but i will say that I mostly hate how the government is easier on them, or seems to be!
It's completely justifiable for anyone to be upset at the illegal immigration issue, and rest assured Jiminlove, most of us do not HATE the immigrants! We are just upset at how the ILLEGAL ones get a speedier process than the rest of us who ARE LEGAL!!
I do agree with him though, that some people's pictures seem suspicious. It's happened to each one of us before, weather thru pictures or on the street, where we wonder "What the hell is she doing with him, or vice versa?!" The only difference is that jiminlove thought it out loud. He also made the mistake of ASSUMING that half the marriages on this site are a sham. Now THAT part is what got me upset! Where do you get your information from? You can't just base yourself on the pictures you see! Come on now!
Another thing.... Buddy, IF YOUR marriage is legal now, let's assume it is, wouldn't you be upset if someone else from Peru who came in ILLEGALLY got HER greencard before YOUR wife did?!??!
Nobody on here said they hate illegal immigrants, and if they did, then they are wrong! They need to be upset at the government who allowed these illegals to adjust in the first place!

eric&gen, cute baby boy! Congratulations
Jasman, thanks alot!
Ohhhhhhhh and another thing...My mother in law told me recently that in order to make a boy (she loves boys, not girls! lol) a woman needs to drink a full glass of water before having sex... She told me this bcz she wants me to try for a boy. She says you have to worry more if you have a girl.. She was just joking but she said she won't come see me at the hospital if i ever get a girl! lol
Ain't that crazy, i mean, about the glass of water part>?!??!

Almaty, i thought you were speaking latin or something so i googled it, and realized you meant drugs! lolol

that was a woman'####### (from the side as opposed to keeping the fist straight!)
lol
I wonder why she hit her...poor lady, she was in so much shock she didnt know how to react

the piss part is funny..
it happens often between us... lol

we had a few ants in our bedroom coming from the 2 windows, but they were only there for a short while and at the first sign of spring...Now they're gone, we don't see them anymore and i doubt it's because of the stuff my husband put there (some ant killer he bought).. All this did was kill the ones that were there already, it didnt' prevent any from coming..
But if they're out of control and no matter how many you kill they still come, you need to get professional help. My mother in law had alot in her home, it ws soooooooo nasty, but she finally brought someone last yr to kill them and so far it's good... we just have to wait for this summer to come so we see how efficient tha was

Something not to say...
Are you in yet? lol

Man, i can't believe this topic still exists and will soon have 100pages worth..
lol
Come to think of it, i think the topic itself ceased to exist a long time ago, but ppl are just finding silly things to just talk about...lol

well, we have 3 bedrooms too and no children planned either...So we have our masterbedroom, we have the office room, and what we have downstairs (the 3rd room), is a gym which we're going to also make into a game room with like air hockey, darts, foosball....

hey there!
I'm canadian married to a us citizen.. I'm supposed to have my interview next week here in Phoenix as well,so can you please tell me which questions they asked you during your interview? Were they nice to you? What documents do i need to bring with me aside from my green card, the new and expired canadian passport, the marriage certificate and proof of us doing joint taxes? Did they ask you again about your marriage and how you met, blablabla?
