It is not unusual to pay directly. My ex-wife and I have a similar arrangement. I pay her directly via direct deposit out of my pay check every two-weeks. If we opted to use Child Support Services, I would pay them and then once my check to them "cleared", they would pay her by check. She would have to wait for those checks. We also have an agreement, accepted by the court, that we will update the amount I pay her annually on our own. Every year, I fill out the official state form and we adjust accordingly.

Gather what information and records you can. If the lack of old records deems to be a problem, then the hint of taking custody may just work.

OK, results . . .

Interview Passed!

Wife was asked to show her "Green" card.

Asked to read the question, "Where does the President live?"

Asked to write, "The President lives in the White House."

She was then asked the following 9 questions, even though she got them all correct . . .

Who is the governor of your state?

Two US Holidays?

What movement ended racial discrimination?

What did the Emanicipation Proclamation do?

Who was the First President?

What do you give up when becoming a citizen?

Where is the Statue of Liberty?

What did Martin Luther King do?

What did Abraham Lincoln do?

She was never asked to show her paperwork.

She was given an N-652 and told she would receive a letter once she is scheduled for her Naturalization Ceremony.

Taken directly from USCIS Form M-477

Are you over 18?

Are you a permanent resident?

You have been a permanent resident for 5 years or more.

During the last 5 years you have not been out of the country for 30 months or more.

During the last 5 years you have not taken a trip out of the country that lasted one year or more.

You have resided in the state where you apply for the last 3 months.

From the exact wording above, you are "eligible" to apply 90 days before your 5 year anniversary of becoming a resident (4/17/2012). However, be prepared to answer questions about your time out of the country.

I seem to remember reading somewhere, that I can't find right now, that your time outside of the country doesn't count towards the "in residence" time of 5 years. If that is true, you may want to wait another year.

Need Help Pls...

I would like to know if I'm eligible to apply citizenship this year or when? I got married 08/18/2003 went back to my country, went back to u.s. as a spouse visa 07/12/2005. Got my Permanent Resident 04/17/2007, I had a short trip from 06/01/2007 to 07/10/2007 (40days) then my marriage didn't work out, We filed our divorce and left 02/07/2009 went back in 01/28/2010 (355 days) in another state then left again 01/31/2010 to finish my child's school then went back 07/20/2010 (170days) from that date I haven't had any trip outside. I talked to the immigration and they told me to take a chance to apply because they don't know if I'm going to be granted or denied because of my almost a year trip. I'm so confused and I don't want to waste my money.

Thanks NotBonJovi. I found in other posts that people simply brought an updated list of trips.

Because we travel regularly by car to Mexico, we don't get stamps . . . in or out.

We have a 6 month "permiso" for Entry into Mexico and we have SENTRI cards for Entry into the US.

I have a spreadsheet that I created to file with the N-400, so I will update that and have her bring it with her.

OK all VJer's . . . my wife's appointment is this coming Monday. We have made several trips out of the country since filing. Should she bring an updated N-400 or simply an updated list of trips? What have others brought with them?

Perhaps I was a bit more conservative, but I looked at it in this way. Every day outside the US didn't count for my wife's "physical residence". So, 33 days outside of the country to me meant she needed 3 years and 33 days of continual residence to qualify. Perhaps that is the wrong view, but it made me secure in the fact that no one could question it.

Of course, we ended up not filing until after the 5 year mark anyway. Oh well!

Penguin is correct. The only "elected" office that specifies "Natural Born Citizen" is President. I am not sure if this provision would keep someone out of the line of succession as well. It may simply make one ineligable to succeed and be skipped in line.

In several Districts the Oath Ceremony is held in a Federal Courthouse because it is a legal binding proceeding which is overseen by a Federal Judge. In these Districts, if the local courtrooms are not large enough for the amount of people that may attend, an alternate location is utilized, but the "site" is temporarily declared a Federal Court.

By law, the sole authority to naturalize persons as citizens of the United States is conferred upon the Attorney General.

But in these Districts I mentioned above, the court wishes to have exclusive authority to administer the oath of allegiance and it is granted by the Attorney General.
