You can order the long form birth certificate from Alberta. You need the long form. Just Google the form.

This is very confusing.
How long to get the green light to travel after adjusting status?
-
You need to start the process in Canada as a K1 Visa. If you overstay (based on a 3 year rolling average of stays in the US), you may be deported and banned from the US for an indefinite period.
As soon as you get the Visa, you may work once you cross the border. You must then stay in the US until you Adjust Status and receive your Green Card.
I takes about 7 months from start to finish (faster than K3) if you do your application properly and you have no criminal or health issues.

As long as his 2012 income tax shows that he meets the minimum financial requirements, I would apply now.
I visited the US every month during our process, and was never questioned. Just make sure you bring solid proof that you will not stay in the US.
By the time you get to the interview phase, he should be more stable in his job as well.

Agree with Tahoma. You just need the interview confirmation letter from the Embassy/Consulate.
They want to see that you've paid the $240 to the Consulate. Ha, ha!
-
Just hers. I handed in the Affidavit and a tax return. That was good enough.
-
Ours took 8 months, but I could have had it done in 6 months if I wanted to. I chose to drag it out to be able to visit my fiancé in the US over spring break.
-
I agree with the above. I only submitted my Fiance's Tax Return/ Assessment, and they were fine with that.
-
At the interview, they did not ask me for one piece of evidence! After hours of putting that thing together, I was kind of mad they didn't ask. Ha!
-
I did not have to fill out any forms for the Medical (Canada). I filled out 156 and 156 K for the interview.

I heard there are no bags allowed. Can I use a briefcase?

It is super fast once it hits Vancouver. The wait time for an interview after you compile all your documents and pay your interview fees is 2-3 days. Of course you need to get the medical first though. They can get you in very quickly too - but allow at least a week's wait for the medical.
My daughter has had all of her Canadian immunizations done, but the USCIS requires more than Canada gives. Double-check the immunizations for her age group. If you don't have your immunization card, go to your doctor and get a Titer test for yourself for MMR and Tdap. It's way cheaper than getting them re-done like I did.
Yes to the police report if she is over 16. That took two weeks for us to get because we went through our municipal police not the RCMP. Also order long form birth certificates if you don't have them. You need original divorce certificates as well. Have a new Intent to Marry letter prepared as well as the Affidavit of Support ready and dated within 30 days of the interview. Start thinking of what you will use for evidence.
You can check the Vancouver Consulate website for the documents that you will need and get them ready in advance. Those forms are so tedious and annoying. They were the WORST part of this process. You must fill out separate forms for your daughter as well.
You will need 5 US Visa photos for each of you, but they must be taken within 30 days of the interview.
You may be surprised at all the little fees that are going to start popping up. We calculated that we have spent a little over $1500 from start to finish.

The Vancouver Canada Consulate asked for 5 before the interview. This includes one for the medical.

I'm blacking out all my bank account numbers, but I am backing it up with a letter from the bank confirming assets on deposit.

Mine will be first. I'll let you know. :-)
Our daughters sound very similar!

You should print out the USCIS required immunizations for her age group, then take it to a doctor who can send you for a 'Titer' test to check for these immunizations.
In Canada the test takes about a week to get the results. I don't know about your country.
My daughter, who has had all of her immunizations from Canada, was missing two immunizations that the US government wanted. That's why you should take the USCIS list with you to the doctor.

Hi All:
I was just wondering if they are going to question my 16 year old separate from me?
She is mostly positive about leaving, but she still has mixed feelings on the subject of moving.
-
They won't accept a letter. She must take a titer test prior to the medical exam. Her regular doctor can send her for this test.

The waiting time for a K1 interview in Vancouver is 2 days. Most of the other visa appointments were 2 days as well. I booked mine last week.
You can have your Visa stamped passport couriered to you if you don't want to pick it up.
-
No, you provide them with your documents, prescriptions et-al and a letter from your doctor about your medications if you are on serious medication.
I am moving this to the Canada forum since medical information is specific to the country you are interviewing in which is Canada.
Thanks Inky:
So they rely on the honesty of the Applicant to voluntarily disclose medications and medical conditions without fact-checking the Applicant's disclosure?
What meds are considered serious?
Thank you!

For the K1 Medical Exam, do you sign away access to your medical files from your doctor and your prescriptions? How do they conduct the Mental Health exam.
Thanks!
So can I go to Hawaii during Adjustment of Status?

I've read on this board that travel must be within a 100 mile radius of both borders of the 48 contiguous states.
