  1. My fiancee and I recently had our interview as the London embassy. We were told everything was fine except our police report was out of date. We knew this and had a new one on the way, but the police messed up the processing and it got to us late. The interviewer said it was fine, and that we'd just have to send it in once we've gotten it.

Well, it finally arrived and we're preparing to send it in to embassy. But we were wondering if the police report should be send in sealed in the original evenelope or if we should open it before sending?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Question 10 on I-134 asks if the sponser has ever petitioned for a visa on behalf of an immigrant before.

Now, I have obviously petitioned for my fiancee. And the example shown on VJ's example form seems to indicate that you SHOULD include your current petition in that list.

But, it just seems a bit odd to me so I was hoping to get some clarification from you guys.

On the I-134 I give to my fiancee for her interview at the embassy, should I list the petition which started the current visa process we are currently in the middle of? Or does the question simply refer solely to previous petitions?

Currently, my answer on I-134 reads "My Fiancee's Name(Current Petition)" Is this a poor answer?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Hello,

After a year long series of bumbling mistakes, my fiancee has just gotten her notice for her inteview date. It's in roughly three weeks.

Pros: I'm, purely out of coincidence, going to be visiting her during this time.

Cons: I figured it was atleast two to three months away and am not prepared, at all.

I leave the country in three days to go be with her. What do *I*, the US citizen need to provide for the interview? My fiancee is British and her interview will be at the London embassy. I know I'm being vague my I'm completely wigged out and panicing.

Thank you so much in advance.

  4. Ask on the regional forum if anyone has a free number for your embassy. I know with Paris embassy it's like 12 euros, or something like that, to call. But someone here discovered a free number for them.

To all the people who were so very helpful in this thread, I wish to thank you once again.

My fiancee just got off the phone with the Embassy and the gentleman she talked to very enthusiastically ensured her that we didn't need an extension. My fiancee said he was absolutely sure of this.

So, can I breath a sigh of relief or was the guy an idiot?

  5. I just realized I've been asking my questions in the wrong forum, so I thought I'd try here.

My fiancee is filling out the first set of forms sent to her by the Embassy. She was sent DS-157, which is required for MALE applicants. Seeing as my fiancee is a woman, does she need to bother filling this out? Can she just throw it away? I'm confused because VJ's example form is filled about by a 'woman.'

Also, when she was sent her packet, she was only given form DS-230 part 1. Is this normal? Is part 1 all she needs to send to the embassy?

    Thank you for the help!

  6. The answer is "unknown".

    Thank you!

Unfortunately, a few new questions have popped up and I don't want to start yet another thread. First let me apologize to you all for being so pesky today.

My fiancee was also sent form DS-157, which is required for MALE applicants.

Thank you all so much for your continued help and support. It means the world to us.

  7. This should be the last thing me and my fiancee need help with, hopefully.

She's putting the finishing touches on her packet and has just one last thing she's not sure of. On question 22 of form DS-230 it asks 'In what occupation do you intend to work within the US?'

She does intend to work, but doesn't know which industry or occupation yet, and won't until she has work clearance in the US. Is it okay to just put 'Unknown' here? We've checked the VJ example forms, but they don't really give a clear answer.

  8. I'm glad you found the NOA2! :) The timeframe I don't know the answer to, I bet someone else here will be able to help you with that though. Could your fiancee call the embassy tomorrow to ask?

The problem with calling the embassy is that it's rediculously expensive. We once looked into it and I think it was like $15 a minute.

EDIT: Nevermind, I looked it up again and it's less than $3 a minute. When she calls, what should she say?

  9. The letter that you have, does it say your petition is being forwarded to such-and-such embassy and have a barcode on it, signed by the Bureau of Consular Affairs? If so that sounds like the letter I got from the NVC.

I did send my fiance a copy of the NOA2 for the interview, they didn't ask for it. But as was said, the original is defnately needed at the AOS. I suggest you tear through your house and try to find it by the time AOS rolls around. :)

Well, I managed to find my NOA2 after tearing my room apart. I'm still worried about the timeframe, however.

  10. If we have indeed lost our NOA2, are we screwed?

We are advised to have the original NOA2 at the interview just in case, though reading through this site I can't find a single post saying it was asked for at the interview. Probably you will be OK even if you don't have it.

However, it IS needed later, at the time of Adjustment of Status here in USA. Are you sure what you have is not the actual NOA2? Doesn't it say approved? Why not send that one instead, just in case.

All the more reason to make COPIES and SCAN important docs like this, so you always have a copy somewhere!

Yes, I am sure what I have is not the NOA2. I think it's the letter that came WITH the NOA2. Is it true you can call the USCIS and request a copy?

Also, there's another question I've been fearing to ask. Is there a time limit on how long my fiancee can take to send in her packet? We've been taking our time a bit on it to get a few last things that came up during our petition in order. Things involving her family in the UK. It's now been about 6 months since she received her packet. Have we waited to long? When I found the NOA2 on this site the example that was given had a 'validity' date of only four months....

    I'm really terrified right now...

  11. I know my fiancee needs a copy of the NOA2. However, when looking through the copy of our petition which I sent her when we were approved, she can't seem to find it. I just had a look through my paperwork and I *think* I found our NOA2, but I can't quite remember if it's the right form. It's printed on plain white paper, is dated, and essentially says 'Dear Petitioner, your petition has been approved.' It then lists our case number and other info .

Is this NOA2? It isn't labled as NOA2 anywhere. How imperitive is it to the process to have a copy of your NOA2?

  12. Hello,

My fiancee is currently in the middle of her half of the K1 process in London, England. Her sister just surprised her with the news that she would like to take her on a trip to Kenya as a birthday/going away present of sorts.

Will taking a short trip(1 week) to Kenya while in the middle of applying for a K1 Visa cause any problems? Please note that visiting Kenya requires a visa from the Kenyan government, but it's a visa which can be obtained in a day and involves almost no effort.

    Thanks!

  13. Hello. My fiancee and I are a filing for a K1 Visa and are currently in the middle of her filling out the first packet she got from the local embassy in London, England. She's slightly confused about a few questions so we came here for help.

The first question is on form DS-156, number 32, and states:

Do you intend to work in the US? (If YES, give the name and complete address of US employer).
She DOES intend to work once she has her green card, but since she doesn't have one yet she obviously doesn't have an employer lined up. How should she answer the question?

The second is from form DS-320, question 22:

In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States?

Again, while she does intend to work, she doesn't have an exact occupation lined up. For the first year or so she'd most likely end up working a basic entry level job somewhere.

How much do these questions matter to the K1 Visa? Is there some specific way she should answer them? How likely is it to come up during her interview?

    Thank you very much!

    -Matt

  14. Okay. This past weekend my British fiancee moved to the address she will be staying at until she gets her visa(her old lease ran up and she couldn't get a temporary one to last until she got the visa, as such she's living with her sister until she comes here).

I know I need to inform the USCIS of this, but with all my searching I can only find information about informing them about a change of address of someone who lives IN the US.

What do I need to do to inform them about the foreigner changing address? Does it matter that I've not been touched since NOA1?

    Thanks a lot.

  15. When I called the Embassy, they sent me all of the forms. I suggest everyone get this piece done now, it will save you time in the long run.

You called the embassy and simply said 'Hi, I'm in the middle of the K1-Visa process, could I get the packet 3 forms in advance so I can go ahead and start working on them?'

If it's that simple, we'll definately be doing that next week.

  16. Hello again.

My fiancee has just finished University and is merely waiting for our visa application to be finished to move here. However, the time between then and now is likely atleast 5 more months, if not more.

This weekend she moves to London to live with her sister(on that note, if anyone could tell me what I need to do to notify the USCIS about her change of address, that'd be appreciated). There's no way she can afford to live in London without SOME kind of income. She has every intention of looking for a job, but if she can't find one by August she's going to have to figure something out.

If she goes on unemployment, but continues to actively seek a job, will it hurt our petition?

  17. Hey there, once again.

My fiancee is a long time away from her interview. We did some math using dates and timelines here at VJ and it seems like the earliest she could be interviewed and approved would be around the middle of October. Conveniently right before my birthday. That's if everything goes perfectly smoothly and according to the timeline. Not likely, but hey, you never know.

Anyway, my fiancee really wants to be here for my birthday, visa or no, because we've never been able to be with eachother on any of our birthdays. Conveniently, there is also an event we both desperately want to attend the day after my birthday. Beyond this, my family really wishes to take us to Florida for a week as sort of a marriage celebration thing.

My problem is that all of these things need to be booked several months in advance. On the off chance that my fiancee ends up getting an interview date in the twoish weeks she'd be here for this trip, would she be able to contact the embassy and request a later interview date, even if it means moving the interview back by like a month? Or would this be grounds to throw the whole petition out?

    Thanks in advance.
