  1. My passport is 3 years old.. all police verification was done that time.. i still live at same place and for last 10 years.. it is my permanent residence..

I am really not sure why they would want my spouse name on passport to issue pcc ... sad.png ... damn them if they ask me for reissue...

    I guess they would!!

Why dont you go ahead and apply for PCC right now? If they will ask to reissue your Passport, that procedure will take time.

  2. I do apologize for not being more specific. For example, an american can travel to Mexico and pick up legally prescribed drugs there that are illegal in the US - GHB (the date rape drug) is an example. On many police shows there have been examples of drugs being confiscated and depending on the nature and/or quantity of the drug(s) the person bringing in the drug(s) could be subject to arrest. Regarding electronics, if they are personal and declared as such there probably would not be any problem(s). However, if they are new in the box and depending on the value may be subject to customs charges. Also, there are electronics, software, etc... that can be purchased outside the US and if brought in could be in violation of US intellectual rights and be confiscated.

Perhaps I should have worded my response saying tha "due care" should be exercised when bringing in drugs to the US. Personally, I just don't carry drugs and/or electronics while traveling internationally. This is just me!

Thanks. I need to carry at least some electronics as I'm coming for the first time (like my phone, and tablet).

Medicines are like headache medicine, tummy medicine, etc.

  3. But my Husband already submitted the Passport Clearance Certificate. Why are they asking again?

He went to Passport office in Chandigarh. This is same place where he added me as Spouse to his passport.

Did he submitted the Passport Clearance Certificate to NVC? If yes, then I think you shouldn't worry, because during interview, they will give you your NVC package back and they will already have your PCC.

Try calling NVC or Consulate or Both and ask them, they will give you clear idea about it.

  4. why would it be in his best interest not to bring his prescription meds to the US when he moves here? Your educated opinion is just that, an opinion, he is looking for fact. The fact is, it is perfectly fine and legal to bring any and all prescription meds along on the flight a long as they are labeled in the original bottles. My husband immigrated and brought several meds with no prob;ems whatsoever. Bringing electronics isn't an issue either. My husband brought an ipod touch, a laptop and a smart phone, once again no problems

    Thanks :) that helped!!

  5. Hi

I am indian now working in dubai for 6 month. My question is this should I go back to indian and apply for PCC through my local passport office or can I submit the PCC which I get from dubai indian consulate. My interview is in india.. so is the PCC from indian consulate valid ?. please help

    Your case is something different.

I would just email consulate and ask them (that's what I did for my pcc).

  6. Are they prescription medicines? If so, you should bring a letter from your doctor but a reasonable amount for yourself should be fine to bring.

Yes, if you bring high end electronics you will need to declare them, but are unlikely to have to pay duty.

thanks, I'll take few medicines just in case.

For electronics, may be like tablet, handy-cam, phone, etc.

  7. My passport too doesn't have my spouse's name. How long did it take to reissue the passport?

My PCC appointment is just 2 weeks prior to my interview at the consulate... sad.png

It's TOTALLY depends upon POLICE VERIFICATION.

If you Police verification is done, you will get it on that day itself.

If not, then it will go as per the process to first have your Police Verification done (like police will visit your house and all) and then you will get it.

  8. Hey Guys,

I got my visa approved today!! :)

The CO said "Your visa is approved and you will get it in courier!!"

I have selected Pick Up option, so now, how can I check what is the status?

I found two sites, one is,

    https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/

    and another is,

    http://www.ustraveldocs.com/in/in-niv-passporttrack.asp

    Where to track exactly??

https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ shows the status as Administrative Processing...I already got approved, what does it mean Administrative Processing? Confused :(

  9. Hi. i came to know that the mumbia consulate is now not asking local police clearance. they just only want PCC from passport office, is it true ? please help..

I guess it's not Consulate specific. The only thing required is PCC from Passport Office.

    Check the below link:

  10. Is there going to be a problem if we add or issue new password with husband name on it if we already submit DS-230 with her old passport?

Show new passport during an interview and explain there why we have to order new passport at that time?

    Thanks!

I don't think so there should be any problem as we're not doing anything bad or wrong.

I have submitted the DS 230 with old passport and going to in interview with both new and old and will explain them.

I'll tell you once I'm done with interview :)

  11. What consider as NEW? My wife's passport is issue in 2009 and expired in 2019. Does that consider new or old?

Why do they need Husband name on her Passport since she can keep her original name with her last name? I don't think there is a law to change name after marriage. I apply for her visa with her original name and last name and seems like everything went fine for her so far...

    Please let me know. Thanks!

What consider as NEW? My wife's passport is issue in 2009 and expired in 2019. Does that consider new or old?

No, That's not NEW. NEW means recently issued Passports which has been done with Police Verification. Anyhow, as you/your wife doesn't have spouse name on Passport, you will have to apply for NEW one (at least in my case it was the case)

Why do they need Husband name on her Passport since she can keep her original name with her last name?

I have NO IDEA buddy, I know, to whomsoever I told this process, everyone has shouted at me the same thing. WHY DO THEY NEED SPOUSE NAME ON THE PASSPORT? I asked the Passport Guy, and he told me that on your PCC application you're married (status) but on your Passport you're not ;) which is conflicting!!

I don't think there is a law to change name after marriage. I apply for her visa with her original name and last name and seems like everything went fine for her so far...

It's not about changing spouse name, it's about ADDING spouse name.

  12. Hi Guys,

My wife is from India and I would like to know if I can show Police Certificate & Passport Office Police Clearance certificate during an Interview? And not send it with DS-230?

If yes, What can I write in a letter when I send DS-230 documents?

    Please help!!

    Hi,

I have already been through what you are going right now.

    Best Solution (as per me):

    1. Send DS 230 to NVC without PCC

    2. NVC will complete your case without PCC so don't worry, not a big deal.

    3. Apply for PCC right now

Depends upon different cases, getting PCC is tricky!!

Case 1 : Your Passport is OLD and It doesn't have your spouse's name on it.

PSK (Passport Seva Kendra) guys will NOT give you PCC and will ask you to have your spouse's name onto your Passport.

For so, you will have to apply for re-issuing of the Passport for reason - Adding of Spouse Name

    Case 1.1

You are applying for Passport in Normal Scheme

Wait for Police Verification to happen, once it's finished, wait for Passport to arrive in your hand. Once you get the Passport, apply for PCC and you will get it within few hours smile.png

    Case 1.2

You are applying for Passport in Tatkal Scheme

You will get the Passport, then wait for Police Verification to happen, once it's finished, check with Police (I guess 1090) if your Police Verification process has finished, once it's finished, apply for PCC and you will get it within few hours smile.png

Case 2 : Your Passport is NEW and it does have your spouse's name on it.

Apply for PCC and you will get it within few hours smile.png

Hope it helps...I know, getting PCC is big thing!!

    Reply/PM if need any help.

    Enjoy smile.png

  13. You will notice that many time you read "The CO wouldn't even let me show evidence I have". It's always said to not just say it but show it. Once they see you have it at the ready they will either ask to take a closer look or say thats cool.

Also you got interview date? Can you come and update on thread or I can plug in your dates, We haven't had any reports for India yet.

Perfect!! Thanks, I guess that makes sense.

The only thing I was worried about people say, don't be over smart to them. keep it simple & short.

My Interview date should be in July, it's at the end of July.

Not sure how to plug it in so kindly help me :)
