  1. Wow! We just the email from the Embassy giving us a tracking number. They can't deliver it until Monday so we may try to pick it up tomorrow if we can. Fingers crossed, crashsle! Hopefully they'll find yours today too! When did you have the interview? We had ours last Friday, Aug 2.

  2. I called: 0844 371 3335. I did ask them about picking it up (and they think that's the only way to get them for now) but that we'll have to wait until we get the email from the consulate. I don't even care about getting my 30 pounds back if we can get the passport asap. Ugh. Try calling them!

  3. I just had a candid conversation with someone at DX. They confirmed that there are major problems with delivery right now and that they don't know what's going on. Take this with a grain of salt because I see some lucky folk have received their passports in a few days. But he said that for the last 2 weeks they haven't had any passports but just got a delivery from the consulate yesterday. So now they're going through a huge backlog of passports. Moreover, he said that nothing is going out for delivery. We can only collect them, currently. And that the only way he's finding that customers know this is that they're getting an email from the embassy - not the text from DX as promised.

So he admits there's a significant backlog, that DX doesn't know anything except when to pick up the passports, and that they're currently trying to go through 2 weeks of passports. It's been a crazy morning he said. The good news is that hopefully our passports are finally moving. But he couldn't begin to approximate how many days it will take to get through them.

    Lucky times!

  4. Nope, not yet. The first 2 days we called the new embassy number and after 45 minutes of holding, it cut off. I don't think anyone was there to answer as they changed the call centre folk. And then in the last 2 days we've been able to speak to people who were really unhelpful and dismissive, until today when the adviser was much nicer and admitted that there may be a problem, saying it's very strange that we haven't heard anything yet. She said to email the address on the website (which took us a long time to find) to tell them of any delivery issues. Of course it'll take 3-4 days for them to respond, in which time we'll be missing our flight to the states.

It seems we're stuck in a Kafkian rut on account of bugs during the crossover. This is getting really infuriating.

  5. We had our immigrant visa approved on Friday and registered for the visa courier service that afternoon. However, when we go back to the Visa Appointment site, it says that our status is still "attend visa appointment" instead of "visa approved". This is 3 days later. We still haven't received a tracking number for our visa and there's no number to call to find out about what's going on. Has anyone else had any problems with this?? We need to fly out next thursday for the US so we need the visa by next weds, which is 8 working days after our interview.

  6. THanks, Jay-Kay,

But line 22 on my 1040 is the lower number. Line 7 ("Wages, Salaries, Tips, etc.") is the higher number. And that lower number is the same number at the end of my "Total Income" section.

Because under "Other Income" (in line 21 of 1040, and in the transcript) i have a negative number for the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion.)

Wondering if I should still put the higher number - or will we be penalized at the visa interview?

    I'm confused!

  7. Hi everyone, I'm filling out the I864. I'm the USC and i've received a letter from my new employer in the US, as well as emails from the relocation department. I have a drivers license, credit card, and investments registered to my parents' address in Michigan, and i'm trying to locate a voter's registration card. After reading through this forum I'm still a little confused about this form. I'm hoping for some help on these questions:

    1. On the first page, in part 2.a (either of Part 1 or Part 2, it's not clear), it asks for a "Mailing Address". Should this by my UK or a US mailing address?

    2. On page 3 it asks for the "Sponsor's Mailing Address". I believe this should be a US address, right?

    3. On page 3 it asks for the "Sponsor's Place of Residence". This can be the UK address, right?

    4. On page 3 under "Other Information" it has a (4) "Country of Domicile". This should be US - but can the phone number be my UK number or should that be my parent's US number?

    5. Part 6, (1) Employment: this should this be my current UK Employment info, not my prospective employment starting next month in the states?

    6. Part 6, question 5. This should be my UK income, and not what my US income will be, correct?

    7. Part 6, question 13.a.1. I have a question about my Total Income on my taxes. I have a higher income that, when filed, gets adjusted to a much lower number (after taking the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion). On the form it says to include what was in the "adjusted gross income on IRS Form 1040EZ) as reported in Federal tax returns. But I completed a 1040, not the 1040EZ. And in the instructions that go along with the I-864 under section 7 it says that "For purposes of this affidavit, the line for gross (total) income on IRS Forms 1040 and 1040A will be considered when determining income. For persons filing IRS Form 1040EZ, the line for adjusted gross income will be considered." So does this mean that I should use the higher number or the adjusted, lower number? The only issue is that on my Tax transcript I received from the IRS has the lower number and makes no mention of the higher number. Which number should i use

    8. Do you think it's worth adding more Assets to Supplement Income?

Thanks! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Daniel

  8. I tried calling the IRS and using the online version to get my transcripts. Unfortunately they don't recognize my soc sec number or say there's a problem, even though i've filed every year I've lived abroad. Anyone else have those issues?

I'm filing a 4506-T request for transcript form and faxing it in and having the form sent to my folks in the US so they can forward it onto me.

  9. Hello, I spoke with a lawyer contracted by my potential new job. Since I will have to begin work in the US 2-3 months before my Italian wife can get her green card, I was asking about what to do with our rental here in London and how long she can visit me in the US.

The lawyer was adamant that if at all possible my wife should not visit me before she's granted her visa. Since we've declared her intent to settle in the US, that is legally incongruous with her visiting me or even going on a work trip (she has a work visa in her passport). That seems pretty drastic as we're trying to set up house and also being apart for so long as newlyweds.

Has anyone had problems visiting the US before they're given their green card? And has anyone heard if this caused problems with the processing of the visa?

Or is the lawyer just covering his butt?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

  10. Hello, I'm an American with an Italian wife who lives in London. We've received our NOA1 and are waiting on approval to submit the I864 though the US consulate in London. I will need to move back to the US next month to start a new job. In the meantime, will my wife need to continue to stay in the UK until she gets her interview? Or can she move back to Italy where she owns a flat and wait it out there (thereby saving us months of rent)? Or will she need to stay here and have a UK address while she waits on her approval?

  11. Thanks, unfortunately only I am on the lease so she'll only have her return airline ticket as proof she's coming back. We live in the UK but she owns a house in Italy. i wonder if we could use that - even though we're going through the US consulate in the UK rather than the one in Italy.

As for funds, between us we should have enough to cover but all of her money is in the UK and Italy. Will the the US recognize assets that aren't in the US?

  12. Hello there, I'm a USC sponsoring my Italian wife to come to the US. I should be getting a job offer but haven't had it offically offered yet. To fill out the affadavit of support i was going to use my assets as a back up. Unfortunately the majority of it is in my 401K in the US and my UK pension. Both of those should add up to the 5xpoverty line, etc. My question is: since I'm 40, can i still count those as part of my assets?

If I add my assets to my wife's, we should have enough. Does her assets count too? Or is all the burden on the USC?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

  13. Hello, I'm new to this site and it's very helpful.

I am a US citizen, living in the UK for 5 years, who has just married my italian fiancee. She has been living with me for 10 months though her residence could still be argued that it's in Italy.

We got married on April 26 and filed our I-130 on the same day. I have a few questions:

    1) We recieved notice on May 2 that it has been received. I believe this is different from the Notice of Action, right? That will be considered my NOA1 date, right? Or should I consider that May 2. When do i start calling about my case number?

    2) I'm being offered a job transfer back to the US but it's not official yet (it's taken much longer than i had thought). How can I prove intent to move back? I believe if i can start the process then I can have my employer write a letter stating that i'm moving back to the US. But if that hasn't happened by the time i have to file the I-864, what other steps should I take? I don't have a US bank account but I use my parents mailing address and I have credit card statements that go there, as well as a Michigan drivers license and voters registration.

    3) Since we filed through the UK consulate I believe we'll have to keep a flat here, meaning we'll have to pay for two flats for a good half year. If I move to the states before this is approved (which is very likely) will my Italian wife be able to travel to see me. She does some work with the US and Canada and would need to travel there for work in any event.

    4) We talked to a visa lawyer and they charged 3000 pounds plus fees (plus vat) and that seemed crazy extensive. Anyone else using a lawyer just to double check that you're doing everything correctly?

Thank you - any advice would be really helpful!

  14. I am a US citizen living in London who has just married my Italian fiancee in London and we have submitted the first form for the US. We are now preparing the papers for the I-130. She is getting her police certificate from the UK and Italy. Does she need one from the US too?

Also, as I'm the sponsor do I also need a police certificate from the UK too? Or just the visa applicant?

    Thank you,
    Daniel
