  1. Hello everyone!

If you have filed online recently for your N400 - and you got your citizenship approved, a few questions:

    - If you filed in VA, how long did it take for you to get an oath letter after your test interview?

    - Has your experience been faster by filing online?

    - If you went to Norfolk, how was your experience?

    - If you filed online in the last year, how long did it take for you to get an oath letter after your test interview?

I  have filed online and have my test interview on 04/24 in Norfolk VA, I am just trying to estimate how long it will take until I receive the oath.

Any pertinent, relevant info will be greatly appreciated.

    Blessings,

  2. Not sure why you needed a new thread with all the same info in it.

Yes, as you were told by several people in your other thread, you need to show the court ordered name change as legal proof of name change.

Hey there, I just like to repeat myself.

    ....

    Thanks for reading though.

I actually did that, because I needed some more clarification. To be honest with you I got so many mixed answers and points of view that I ended up more confused, adding a little bit more of information gives me a clearer sight of what I need to do and some extra clear input is always welcome.

    Thanks!

  3. Hello VJ community,

For some background info, please go to this link:http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/491403-heeeelp-name-change-legal-evidence-confusion/

I got married last september to my husband after we went to the K1 visa process.

As a latinamerican, you have like 5 names. For some other culture fellas here, they might not understand the emotional value of a last name and a family name. However in my latinamerican family lastnames are deeply treasured.

This is what happened to me.

I was advised that after I got married - I could change my name with my marriage license, stating that I got married.

I was advised to apply with the name I wanted printed on the green card for the AOS and the EAD.

So I did. My name is Maria Estefania S. C.

    My husbands lastname is W.

I was told that women here have the option to adopt their Maiden Lastname as a Middle name and have their husbands lastname too. I wanted to keep my father's last name which is the emotional value of it as a middle name. However the form only allowed me one first name, that is why I only applied like Estefania S. W.

    I omitted my Maria.

Applications went through. EAD came with that name, I went to the DMV and SS office to change it to that.

Yesterday I got a letter from the goverment stating that I need to provide legal evidence that I changed my first name to Estefanía instead of María Estefanía.

The system is a little iffy, because If there was something unacceptable or wrong in the process the EAD should have not gone through.

Again, in Virginia you can change your name with your Marriage License - as far as I am adviced to whatever is required. Regardless of First or Lastnames.

I went to the courthouse today and I applied for the legal name change - without the "Maria". If the judge approves my name change with a court order - should that be enough legal evidence?

  4. The only thing marriage does is allow you to change your last name to your spouse's or keep your last name (maiden name). It does not permit you to change any other part of your name. To legally change your first name you would need to obtain a court order. Usually an easy process, my spouse did it for a few dollars and didn't have to appear in court, just filed a form with the clerk.

I am going to go to the courthouse today and see what they tell me. As far as I know if jugde grants it, I should be OK.Idk though. I clearly confused some stuff here.

  5. They are not talking about your last name they are talking about the first name that you just decided you weren't gonna use anymore. If you name is (Example) Ana Lucia Ramirez Perez (2 maiden names) and Your husband's last name is Garcia then you would be Ana Lucia Garcia, You Cannot Just change Your name to Lucia Garcia. You understand? they thing you dropped your first name.. it has nothing to do with last names and for that they need to see legal papers that you dropped "Maria" from your name as you filled everything out as Estefania Which is NOT you your legal name on your documents. You CANNOT just change first names you can only drop last names. I think you made a mistake.

I know they are talking about my first name. However I was advised to apply with the name that I wanted printed on my green card.

At the time there was no explanation about first\last names so I just did. (Apply like that)

At this point I just need to find a way to figure everything to do it correctly.

  6. Hello VJ community,

I find myself with a big question mark in my head. USCIS requested an RFE on our AOS after we got married on our case.

My maiden name lets say is: Maria Estefanía" plus 2 more last names.

I applied with name. "Estefania (Maiden Lastname - to be my second name) and my husbands lastname."

USCIS approved my Employment Authorization with that name Estefanía (Middle Name: Maiden Lastname) (Husbands Lastname)

I changed my name to this on my social security card / Estefanía (Middle Name: Maiden Lastname) (Husbands Lastname).

My driver's license has this name on it: Estefanía (Middle Name: Maiden Lastname) (Husbands Lastname).

Now USCIS is saying that my passport and birth certificate are listing my given name as Maria Estefanía, OBVIOUSLY because that is my freaking maiden name.

They are asking for evidence that I have LEGALLY REMOVED María and changed my name to Estefania.

    Now my questions:

WHAT IS LEGAL EVIDENCE THAT I HAVE DONE THIS?

IS MY SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, DRIVERS LICENSE AND EMPLOYMENT AUTHORIZATION DOCUMENTATION ENOUGH?

How does this work in the US. do you have to go to a court and change your name?

    Please advise!

    Thank you.

  7. Hello VJ Community,

It is a pleasure to post again. This time not so stressed but with an inquiry regarding an I-765 EAD application.

    Ok, my case status says:

"On December 10, 2013, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. If you move before you receive the card, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283"

Has any of you some experience, as of how long does it take to receive it after approval?

    Is it really 30 days?

Does the approval notice come with the card?

Has someone gotten the EAD sooner? How soon?

I have a big question mark in my head, some light shed on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Steffy

  8. Hi there,

I know how difficult and stressful the K1 visa process can be.

For all of you in El Salvador or other Spanish speaking countries, I have posted on my blog this new entry describing my experience.

Sadly Google Translate does a poor job translating it, but I thought you might enjoy reading.

It has dates on it, may help you calculate your times too.

    Be blessed,

  9. Hello there folks,

It seems, for us that have entered the country lately there has been a thing going on with the I-94.

Maybe I'm missing something, and if anyone can help that'd be great.

I entered the States on Sept 12th - got married the next day :) - , but the officer at the POE didn't give me anything. No I-94, no nothing.

    I asked several times.

Then I find out that the I-94 form is to be found here https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/request.html

Well its been almost 3 weeks since I came and it still says 'Not found'.

I tried calling USCIS, no answer. I just submitted a complaint here https://help.cbp.gov/app/home.

I honestly don't know what to do. The reason why we rushed things up was to get this done ASAP but here we are again stuck.

    Anybody has ideas?

  10. Hello everyone!

"Psalm 86:15 - But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness."

I just wanted to share with the community that our K1 visa was approved today :) I am the beneficiary in El Salvador.

Thank you so much, to all of you who helped out throughout this process and answered questions or recommended stuff.

The help on this website is amazing, the support and support you get here is a treasure.

Praise God because He is good!

(I posted my review on the Salvadoran consulate already)

For all those of you out there still waiting, hang in there! Strengthen your faith, learn through the process because it will pay off :)

This whole process taught us patience, strengthened our relationship and made our faith and trust stronger.

    God bless you all!

  11. Some consulates want to see 125% of the poverty level, and some accept the 100%. I do not know how strict your consulate is on the financials. Check with others that have gone through there. After you get the K-1, get married and file for AOS in the US, you will definitely need the 125%.

The letter states his time working there and his salary. Add up his gross salary to get his annual income. So, his semi-monthly amount times 2 to get monthly and then times 12 months. That is what you would list for current income on the I-134. The employment letter and pay stubs will prove that current income amount.

    Thank you!

  12. Hello guys!

Thank you for your previous support. After we have been approved, now we are getting ready for the interview.

And now we are concerned because of the Affidavit of Support.

Question 1: are these the updated poverty guidelines?

    http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-864p.pdf

We reach the first limit for two people.

Question 2: Does my fiance have to have a yearly contract where he works at?

They do not give contracts for the position he has, they gave him a letter that specifies since when he has been working at his current work and the letter specifies a SEMI-MONTHLY payment. They refused to write the yearly amount. He has been working there for more than 3 years now...

Is that bad? Do we need a yearly contract to prove the US that he can support me?

    Will we need a sponsor?

    - We have bank statements

    - Tax returns

    - other documents besides this crapy Employment letter.

Any comments and advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance!
