Thanks for answering all my questions tonight! :-)
I did not use my new married name on all my AOS forms. We got legally married months ago and I was waiting for our actual wedding day to change my name (we hadn't told all our family about the legal marriage thing).
So it won't matter for me?
The US citizen does not have to do anything about their change of name. Did you put your new married name on the AOS forms? Plus, you had to send along your marriage certificate, so that is all that is necessary. -
I know how to switch our address (which we already will have to do in a few weeks), but how about if the US CITIZEN changes her name?
I was planning to do so in the next few weeks, or should I just wait until after my husband's AOS is approved?
If I do it now, anyone know what kind of forms I have to fill out?
-
We just got back from our honeymoon, and found that Dave's AP has been approved.
However, we had to reschedule his first biometrics appt, and don't have one now until 11/25...
His EAD was also touched today as well...
I thought biometrics was a requirement for approval for AP/EAD, anyone had this happen to them?
-
I'm always confused on what exactly biometics applies to... is it the AP/EAD process, or the AOS process itself or both?
We had to reschedule our biometics appt... and now won't have it until November 25th!!!
Does this mean there's no chance of getting AP or EAD approval until after that?
Grr... if I had known it would be so long we would have figured out a way to get there.
Thanks in advance!

Are you set on driving it yourself?
My husband (then fiance) used "U-Pack" to get all his stuff here.
Basically they drop off a container, you pack it up, and they come get it and deliver it to you.
For us it was MUCH cheaper than driving, but he was going from BC to Boston.
A couple of other VJers have used them, they're great!

I had my interview back in April, I needed the I-134... and the OF-167...
They hadn't put an OF-167 in our packet so I emailed the consulate and they emailed me one back right away...
It was one sheet of paper as I remember.

Sorry, we've been a bit crazy :-) Haven't gotten to reply!
Dave has his SSN at this point, and I do believe they asked for the number at some point.
Honestly, I think it all depends on who processes it on when the benefits will start.

We also have been able to receive EI without our EAD.
Dave faxed his I-94 and Visa to them about a month ago.
We got a full EI check just this past week, for the past two weeks. Don't really know how we started getting it without the EAD.

If you got your vaccination records transferred over by civil surgeon while file for AOS, did they give it to you in a sealed envelope? If so, is that what you sent in with your packet? They gave us a photocopy of it, but also gave us the sealed envelope, so should we send the photocopy and bring the envelope to the interview, or send in the envelope?
TIA!

Hey all!
We're just about to file for our AOS (with canucker18's great help so far!!) but PLEASE post all your experience's in one of the public forums as well. We'll end up going through Boston, so I'd love to see what we have in store for us!
Good luck to all this week!!
Your list looks great Please let us know how the interview went, mine is August 30 in California. The only thing my husband and I don't have is joint bank account. I entered on H1b visa and met him when I was down here. We had different banks and because of direct deposit and other bills coming off we just left as is. We do have a joint savings and added eachother to our individual accounts. We have been married two years ( I know we were slow filing) and can show evidence of joint health ins., apt lease, bills, joint car ins., joint credit account, beneficiary on life insurance and photos, and my name change on driver licence and at work. We also had a large formal wedding and have invitations, receipts of payment, and honeymoon. Do you think it will be ok that we never had one main joint bank account.??

That's what I thought!
She told him it didn't matter though for whatever reason... that he still should be looking anyways...
Maybe we just got a really confused worker?
-
Thank you all!
Those were the answers I thought, but wanted to be absolutely sure :-)
-
Ok - maybe we both misunderstoof this whole thing.
So my fiance starts applying for his EI, which we both thought we couldn't start collecting until he had his EAD anyways...
He gets a call from an EI worker today, who gets annoyed that he's in Denver for a week visiting his mother.
She says he needs to be actively looking for work now.
But we both thought you couldn't do that until you actually are AUTHORIZED to work... we're just about to file for AOS and his EAD etc this week, so he's months away from that.
So she tells us he may not be eligible if he stays in Denver longer than a week.
So what gives? Why would he be actively looking for a job when he's months away from being able to work?
It's all so very much fun!

Hi all, I've tried searching for the answers to these, but haven't gotten concrete stuff so I wanted to double check.
For AOS from K-1:
Part1: I check the first box if I'm the sole petitioner for my now-husband correct?
Part5: Household Size, under the "Persons NOT sponsored in this affadavit" section, it says, "if currently married, enter 1 for your spouse", however, he's the one I'm sponsoring, so do I leave that at 0?
Sorry if this has been asked, just trying to clarify my thoughts.
Thanks in advance!

Oh thanks so much :-)
There are so many numbers on these documents... that one wasn't as clearly marked as the rest ;-)
-
For the life of me, I can't figure out which one this is...
Where do I locate it?
Thanks so much!

Now I understand, sorry for my mis-reading.
I'll have to look for a civil surgeon in our area to get it done.
I'd love the name of whoever you saw in somerville, if that's possible. Thanks in advance!
Please read my post more carefuly. I also came to the US on a K-1 visa and have been through the exact same process. You do not need to prove that the medical has been done and you do not need to have it done again but you DO need to submit the vaccination supplement (The medical is form I-693 and the vacciantion supplement is form I-693A). The brown envelope taken at entry will be with the immigration services already.
Yes this should also include vaccination information but this is the process. The requirements for this are clearly stated on on the form I-485.
I see that you are in or near boston. I can recomend the civil surgeon that i saw in somerville if that is close to you.
If i need to clarify the requirements any more please let me know
-
However, that shouldn't apply to us, he's already had the medical exam done during the K-1 process, therefore, it states you don't have to do it again.
However, what do we need to prove that it has been done.
-
Hey there,
We're getting ready to apply for AOS, and my husband had his medical when we went through the K-1 process, what kind of proof does he need that it got done?
They never gave him any form or anything other than a vaccination checklist, the rest went into the brown envelope they took.

We had our civil ceremony last week, have a certified copy of our license... but it's just been two weeks since my fiance got here. So we're JUST eligible for getting our SSN, although I'm sure once we go and apply it will take another couple of weeks to get the number.
So do we have to have the SSN in order to file the I-485, or can you do it without it...
Thanks!

Good luck and best wishes!

Thanks all!
Quick question... looking at getting Dave's SSN in a couple of weeks...
But what did you put forth for the "other ID" needed... he won't have a U.S. license or anything yet (needs a SSN to get it), so what did you use?
Change of address question
in Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from K1 and K3 Family Based Visas
Posted
Sorry for what seems to be a silly question... but I can't find the answer anywhere.
I just realized that a change of address for us didn't go through last year (Husband has the 2-year GC right now)... Luckily the address USCIS has is my mother's address, which is right down the street (we lived there previous to our move).
I'm doing the change of address form again online - and I can't remember what to put down for last date of entry. Is that the date of entry for when he first entered on his k-1... Or is it the last time he re-entered the country period? We were in Canada for the holidays.
Thank you in advance!
