  1. My husband has arrived in the US! Woohoo! Prior to his coming here, we paid the $165 greencard fee. I think I was so focused on him getting here, I'm a little gray on what now. Will they automatically mail the greencard and social security card? Does he need to go to the social security office? In the guide I read the paragraph below. It talkas about removing conditions....that's down the road right? (90 days before the 2 years?).

Additionally, I guess I want to clarify something....we went the married visa route (CR-1). So he can travel back and forth home to Kenya right? Unlike the fiance visa I think. Is this once he gets his greencard that he can go back and forth outside of the US? The visa in his passport says the permanent resident sentence about being valid for 1 year, but the visa is a one time visa valid for 6 months, so how does that work? I just don't want to plan a trip and end up missing a husband at the end of my trip.

If anyone can shed some light on what now.....

At the bottom of either a CR-1 visa or IR-1 visa is the following sentence, "Upon Endorsement Serves As Temporary I-551 Valid For One Year." The endorsement is a standard CBP admission stamp with applicable information written in by the officer. This allows the visa itself to act as a temporary green card before the actual green card arrives in the mail. Additionally, if your relative is a CR-1 visa holder, the green card will only be valid for two years. Within ninety days before the green card expires, you will have to file an I-751 form to remove it's conditional status.

  2. My husband is Kenyan. He has his interview on 4-1 and we are of course praying he will be coming to the US soon. I've read for Nigerians, it's best for the immigrant to buy the plane ticket. For Kenyans is it the same? I don't want anything to hold us up, but if I can buy it online I feel like I might be able to get a better deal. I appreciate your input.

  3. My husband has his interview on 4-1. The Kenyan embassy has told him in person and me on the phone that all our fees are paid. However, I thought there was $165 that he has to pay either before or at the interview???? They say that all fees are paid prior to them getting the case, but I'm a bit worried as I keep seeing this $165 fee in fee lists, etc.

  4. I think any excuse will be interpreted as being rude. If someone were to stay with me and didn't, I would wonder why. Since you need a good relationship with your inlaws, suck it up and don't make the same commitment to stay next time by agreeing to stay there ;) Now that you know how to use public transportation, stay on campus and busy most days. (No, I don't have cats, but I have slept places in Haiti and Kenya I wouldn't say were great conditions but I was polite and my hosts never knew how I felt. Their feelings matter more than my being uncomfortable).

  5. Congrats for your approval...you will be OK..just keep bugging them the status of your visa..your fiance needs to do that as well...did your fiance attended at the interview. I am wondering why they called you back. Didn't they ask you in the first interview about your fiance?

What do you know about the approval rate at the Kenyan Embassy... I hear lots horrible stories especially from Nigeria and wondering if the case at the Kenyan embassy is like that as well.

I'm wondering the same thing……my husband is really prepared for his interview but I just have been wondering what the overall approval rate was especially after reading about Nigeria.

  6. I have to send civil documents anyways, and honestly it's been so long since my initial packet I just kept thinking they'd ask for ongoing relationship documentation. My husband will have that at the interview, but I also understand they kinda have a good idea if they are approving or not prior to the interview, so I'd rather send now if it will help our case. I just didn't want the "extra" stuff to delay anything since they aren't asking for it.

  7. I'm mailing my civil documents Monday, finished the form online today. I wonder if I should include "relationship" stuff in the mailing? I included emails and a few tickets with my initial packet, I've never been asked for more. The list of civil documents doesn't ask for any "relationship stuff" but maybe I should include it? What do you think?

  8. I need to mail documents to Kenya for my husband's interview. Actually, i'm just a control freak and want to put the entire package together so that everything is super organized. I don't want to pay $300-$400 for fedex or dhl though. I've gotten a quote for about $100 from usps certified mail. Has anyone had luck mailing documents via usps? Or any other reasonable suggestion?

  9. Ok, so I do an I-864 for husband and another one for his son? Or I just include the son as a family member on the one I do for my husband? Thank you so much!!!\

(also, I realize the address question seems dumb...but I didn't want to screw it up and a few pages later they clearly ask for my address. the form seems to go in columns, so it would appear they want my husbands, but since it's at the top of column 2 it's by my name...... Thanks so much!)

  10. These may be dumb questions, but I need a little help:

    1. Page 1 - mailing address and other information section - I can't tell if it's going along with Part 1 or Part 2. Do they want the info on the sponsor (me - from the US) or the immigrant (my husband from Kenya). I've seen examples that show both, so I don't know who's info they want.

    2. On my original visa packet that I sent in, I listed my husband and his son. My husband of course is the principal immigrant. In Part 3 it says "Part 2. Do not
include any relative listed on a separate visa petition." Do i list his son as a family member or do I have to do another I-864 for his son? (My husband will come first and then in a few months his son will come to the US). I'm not sure if I list a family member on the same visa petition....eg - his son.

    3. Part 9 - since I'm self preparing I just leave blank?

    4. Also - this has to be done hard copy right? When I called the NVC, they said they are reviewing his assign agent form, but in the meantime I could complete this form and then when the fee was available I could pay it. I was thinking it was online, but seems like it's a hard copy mail in type form. And I'm guessing I should hold off on mailing it in until they give me the list of stuff they need in addition to it.

    Thank you so much!
