  1. So I called Vermont today and managed to speak to the second tier. They said that I'm no longer able to check the status of my case online.

the receipt number that I have is the same one that they gave to me so I guess I didn't lose a document after all.

they said that the only way to check a status now is to call them directly.

i asked them the status of my application and they said it was pending. I asked for a timeline and they said the average is 6-10 months. It's been 6 months so far so I'll have to be patient.

they also confirmed everything that was said in this thread. I just need to get my passport stamped when it's time to extend my extension if I don't hear back after another 3 or 4 months.

I called them at around 9am EST and the wait was around 10 minutes total. It wasn't nearly as long as I thought it'd be. I guess I'll just keep checking the mail and call them once a month.

No it doesn't. Your initial 1 year proof of extension expires then (assuming your 2yr GC expired in feb 2017). This is PROOF of status, not the status itself- you can get an I-551 stamp as a further years extension when the initial 1yr proof expires

So I'm looking at my extension letter and this is what it says.

"Your conditional resident status is extended for a period of 1 year. During the one year extension you are authorized employment and travel."

To me this clearly sounds like after that one year, I'm no longer allowed to work.

  3. Hi everyone,

I received my I-751 receipt notice and scheduled the second appointment I've had for biometrics. They took my finger prints and and my picture etc and then showed me the door. That is the last I've heard from them. I used to be able to check the status of my case on USCIS.GOV but now I can't. It reads "My case doesn't not recognize the receipt number entered." Again, I used to be able to check it but now it's gone and I'm really nervous. I haven't received anything in the mail and my conditional residence expires in February 2018. I'm kind of in the middle of nowhere.

My big fear is that they sent me something and I didn't receive it, or it somehow got lost between bundles of junk mail. If something like that happens what do I do? What if they send me an appointment letter and I never see it? Is my case tossed aside?

I know I have 6 months to rectify this but I'm starting to get really nervous.

Does anyone have experience with this?

    Thanks,

    Jay

  4. Okay thanks for the help. I'm pretty nervous about this to be honest. What is the rejection percentage? Also how important is it that there's a lot of proof of living together? I mean I'm sure I can find letters and things like that but most of the time we hardly ever go out. We're in the house being boring so we don't have many photographs together as we don't just take selfies when we're watching game of thrones lol

We probably have two pictures together over the course of the year.

  5. I've been asked to come in for an interview to discuss permanent residence. It's in about 3 days time and I've just realised that I cannot find my birth certificate anywhere.

Is this going to be a deal breaker? I've already handed over my birth certificate many times to the US government and I'm just wondering if I simply don't have it where do I go from there?

If I am going to be rejected then can I reapply? If so, how quickly can I do that?

Also it doesn't state what kind of interview this is going to be. Is there a list of the types of questions I should be expecting to be asked?

    Thanks,

    Jamie

  6. Hey,

I've been called in for an adjustment of status appointment. They're asking for a couple of things I don't have.

    1. I-693 (Vaccination approval in sealed envelope.)

    2. I-864 (Affidavit of support.)

I've had my vaccination supplement and handed that in already so I no longer have my I-693 and I believe we handed in an I-864 when we applied for me to come to the country.

It says on the documentation that I only need these things if I haven't already handed them in BUT I think the I-864 I handed over when I was in London. Would this still apply out here? I'm getting a bit confused with all the different documents to be honest and I just really want this to all run smoothly.

Also it asks for my birth certificate. Do they need the original copy? I don't think I have that.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

  7. Hi Everyone,

I've been in the country for about a year now (Came over on a K1 Visa and got married within the 90 days.)

I was unable to get a social security number because my I-129 ran out before I could get one. A few days ago I got my Employment Authorization Card and I'm wondering other than that and my Passport what else do I need to bring in to the office for them to process my social security number request?

    Thanks,

    Jamie

  8. Hey,

I've just filled out my I-693 and I'm wondering, when I take it to the Civil Surgeon does he need me to provide proof of the medical exam I had in Knightsbridge, London?

I have proof of my vaccinations but I can't seem to find the proof of the medical I had. However since I needed to have a medical to even apply for a K-1 VISA I'm hoping that I don't have to provide that to the civil surgeon?

Is there anything else I need to bring to them?

    Thanks,

    Jay

  9. Hey,

I'm on question 16 on my I-765 form which says

Go to the "Who May File Form I-765?" section of the instructions. In the space below, place the letter and number of the eligibility category you selected from the instructions. (For example, (a)(8), ©(17)(iii), etc.).

I don't have the Who may file form I-765 sheet.

I came here on a K1 VISA and am now married. My I-94 has expired but I got married before it did. I've now been here about 4 months and have no social security number. What do I fill this part out with? Also can you tell me where I can confirm this? I just really really want to get this right.

    Thanks so much,

    Jamie

  10. Hey,

I applied for my social security number about 8 weeks ago. I got a letter through the post yesterday saying that they couldn't process my social security number the problem is my I-94 expired the day before. I think the reason it couldn't be processed it a clerical error by them placing my middle names as my first name.

I've just been to the social security office for the third time. They said there's nothing they can do because my I-94 has expired now. I need to update it or get a new one. How do I do this? Can I do it online?

Also I haven't sent for my change of status yet. My wife keeps telling me that we need to get a social security number before I send this off. If we file for it now we need to file for it a second time when I get the social security number? Is this true? I'm nervous because, although we married well within the 90 days, my I-94 has expired so I'm kind of floating in limbo.

  11. Hey everyone,

I've gone and done it! My Fiance and I are now my Wife and I.

Firstly I just want to make sure that the only think required of me within the 90 days is that we get married. I'm now under no strict time limit as to what happens next?

Also a couple of other questions. I have my I-485 form which I need to fill out. When does this need to be handed in by?

And I've been waiting for my social security card for about 8 weeks now. When I go to the social security office, which I've done a few times now, they tell me to wait longer. Originally they told me it should be around 4 weeks. Has anybody else had problems getting their social security number through the post?

    Thanks,

    Jay

  12. Also I've changed my name since birth. I do not have my birth certificate or name change deeds here. Is that going to effect applying for a social security number over here in the states if my passport clearly states my name as it is now?

Should I even mention that my name has been changed as it might complicate things.
