  1. Does it look like I am missing anything for my application to remove conditions? When sending evidence of joint accounts do I need to send statements covering multiple months/years or just one that shows we have joint accounts?

    • Copies of the passports and green cards of Ian Link

    • Two sworn affidavits by U.S. citizen friends, attesting to our relationship and marriage.

    • A copy of our 2006 and 2007 joint US tax return.

    • Copy of joint title to our house

    • Copy of joint deed to our house

    • Copy of joint contract for purchasing our house

    • Old apartment lease

    • Statement from Bank of America showing our joint home mortgage

    • Copies of joint home insurance

    • Copies of joint car insurance

    • Copy of our visa cards showing a joint account. (Card numbers are the same on each card)

    • Copy of our health insurance cards showing a joint policy.

    • Statement from Bank of America showing joint savings account

    • Statement from ING Direct Bank showing joint savings account

    • A copy of our airline itineraries from our joint trips to the UK in August 2006, UK in January 2007, Aruba in March 2007, UK in March 2007 and UK December 2007

  2. Does anyone have an example of the letter that friends sent supporting the application for removal of conditions? The sample one on the forum seems perhaps a little over the top with legal stuff and also is intended to be notarized which doesn't seem to be necessary.

Also does it matter that the two people we plan to use are my mother in law and father in law?

    Thanks,

    Ian

  3. I have never seen anyone have an issue with working. I myself worked for 3 weeks between my 90 days and getting my EAD and I was never even asked about it. I know it was a shorter period of time but I would say that you shouldnt spend between not and your interview going crazy about it.

And for those who get very animiated about people working with out an EAD I am NOT condoning it or recomending it. It is something I chose to do and a risk a chose to take. For me it worked. Others have the right to make the same choice.

  4. Can you contact the medical facility in the Ukraine where the medical was done and have them send you another copy of the vaccination sheet DS-2035?

Upon arrival in Atlanta Immigration took my wifes medical documents including the sheet listing her vaccination status...How are we suppose to file the I-693A supplemental without this information. I have heard that others have retained this information through point of entry. I do not want to have to pay for another med exam and vaccinations for my wife and her daughter...it does not make sense and is very expensive. Any insight and help with this would be appreciated...Thanks!
  5. Just a quick note that the new I-864 does not need to be notarized so there is no cost there

    I-485

$325 plus $70 biometrics fee - 14 years and older

$225 under 14 years of age no biometrics fee

    I-765

$180 each if you want work authorization for both

    I-131

$170 each if they are going to leave the country before the AOS is approved.

    I-864

No fee other than the notary cost.

    G-325A

No fee and needed for K-1 and only for K-2 if age 14 or older.

  6. I'm going to start my answer with DONT WORRY!

The joint like Health insurance, renter agreement, car insurance, utilities are a lot more than some people have and is really good evidence. They should understand the bank situation as it happens all the time.

If you are really worried you could go to the local branch of your bank and ask them to write you a very quick letter saying that you tried to get added to the account but they wont do it because of your SSN. I would say this isnt essential at all but may help put you at ease!!

    Good luck with your process

  7. We were in the same situation, my wife was a student last year so did not meet the income requirements but does now. There is no yes or no answer to this question (i looked long and hard for one) it is at the discretion of the interviewing officer.

My advice would be that if you can get the co-sponsor to fill it in then do that. If they decide that you dont need a co-sponsor then they will simply not use it. This way you are just covering your bases.

The immigration officers decision may also be dependant on how long your wife has been at her job, what the job is and how much she earnts.

Sorry there isnt a more concrete answer to this

  8. At my interview on Tuesday we had all kinds of evidence with us. All they asked for was something showing me on her health benefits. Other than that we had a joint lease and a joint savings account which they didnt even ask to see. Dont worry about not having bills, i couldnt get them in my name either!!

You can take mail sent to you individually but showing that it was sent to the same address, any bookings for trips you have made together, letters and emails sent between you, photographs of you together, benefficaries on life insurance policies.

There are so many things you can take that not having joint bills really isnt a problem. They give you suggested things that are good to have but are not required, just have enough stuff and as much as you can and you should be fine

  9. Yodrak,

I have seen several cases like yours where the DS-3025 was deemed acceptable, i have also seen cases where it was not.

I guess it is down to the opionion of the OP. If they want to take the chance then that is their choice to do so. Personally I didnt want to risk getting an RFE based on the whim of an immigration officer wanting the I-693A as requested in the form instructions.

It is down to personal preference and what they think is the best course of action for them

  10. No problem. If it wasnt for these forums i wouldnt know any of this stuff myself. The Doctor I saw was:

    Dr. Peter Schlesinger

    1000 Cambridge Street, 2nd Floor

    Cambridge, MA 02141

    Tel: (617)876-1668

He had an appontment the same day, had experience of the forms and had no problem filling it in from the information that I had. I seem to recall that he charged in the region of $60-$70. You may be able to get a better price if you shop around but make sure you see someone with experience of just submitting the vaccination supplement. Some will mistakenly tell you that you have to have the full medical and will charge several 100 dollars

  11. Please read my post more carefuly. I also came to the US on a K-1 visa and have been through the exact same process.

You do not need to prove that the medical has been done and you do not need to have it done again but you DO need to submit the vaccination supplement (The medical is form I-693 and the vacciantion supplement is form I-693A). The brown envelope taken at entry will be with the immigration services already.

Yes this should also include vaccination information but this is the process. The requirements for this are clearly stated on on the form I-485.

I see that you are in or near boston. I can recomend the civil surgeon that i saw in somerville if that is close to you.

If i need to clarify the requirements any more please let me know

  12. What you need to do is get form I-693a filled in by a designated civil surgeon.

This form is the vaccination supplement. For the civil surgeon to fill in the form they will need some kind of proof of the vacinations that have been had.

The form MUST be filled in by a designated civil surgeon. You can find ones in your area on the USCIS website here:

    http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/exec/cs/index.asp

Remember to shop around for different prices!

  13. I have just got back from my interview and we were not asked for new copies. However we had them just incase they were asked for.

An important point for you to note is that there is a NEW I-864 form. This now allows you to use the intending immigrants income if they will be in the same job before and after AOS (you will need a letter from the employer). But even better than this is that the new form does NOT need to be notarized!!!!!!!!

  14. We had a 10.30 appointment and arrived at around 10.00 this is what happened

    - When our name was called we were taken into an office and asked for our ID's (we both had our passports).

    - We were also asked for my birth certificate and our marriage certificate.

    - She confirmed our address but read the appartment number wrong. We both corrected her at the same time

    :-)

    - She asked for my wifes 2005 tax returns and evidence of me being on my wifes health insurance.

    - She then asked me the usual terrorist and conviction questions

    - She then told us we were approved!!!!!

All in the interview lasted around 10 minutes. We were not asked for wedding pictures, joint account information or anything like that. We were not asked why my wife kept her own surname.

The process was very straight forward.

If anyone has any questions specific to the Boston office please feel free to ask!

  15. It is very clear in stating that the intending immigrants income may be used if they will be in the same job before and after the AOS application.

Please remember that the I-864 form is not only used for those adjusting from K-1. For example someone who was here on a 3 year work permit meets an American and marries them and files for AOS. In this case the person would already be work authorized so this situation very much applies to them.

If you meet the poverty guidelines (even by $1) then send it as it is. If by the stage of the interview the intending immigrant is working then fill out a new I-864 and take it to the interview with you.

At this stage if you are concerned that your income will be rejected the only thing you can do is get a co-sponsor

  16. You definately should have been able to apply for your SSN. Have a look for post by (or contact directly) the user mdyoung. He is very knowledgeable about the SSN process and has made numerous posts answering questions similar to use. Also look in the "Working & Traveling prior to getting a Green Card" forum for more posts about this topic

    My Photos

    Hi all,

i arrived in the States on a K1Visa on June 5-06 I was married on the 28June. On the 7th July i went in to my local SSOffice in Philly to apply for my SSN, (there they insisted it was actually a SSCard not SSNumber). I was informed that before i could apply for a SSN, i first needed to adjust my status. This was news to me and i later contacted the SSN help line to verify what i had been told earlier was correct, unfortunately all they told me was to visit my local SSOffice and discuss it with them, (and then they hung up on me).

So my questions are: is that right that i need to file my AOS and have it processed before applying for my SSN?, or if not,has anybody out there had a similiar problem and how did you sort it out?

    Thanks frailer

PS: While this is our first post, my darling new wife and i , have found this site to be an indispensible resource on our K1visa journey.

  17. I filed for AOS in february and have noticed that the form I-864 has changed.

I have some questions on this new form.

    1. As the immigrant i could use my salary on the form. What proof would i need of this salary as I havent been here long enough to have this on any tax returns

    2. As there is a new form do I need to fill out a new version to replace the old version i sent in?

    3. Is there anything else on this new form that may affect me from the old form that i should be aware of?

    Thanks,

    Ian
