AWESOME NEWS
can you tell me if your husband arrives on a CR1 visa, how long from date of entry until he can apply for citizenship?
Hi!
My husband came on a CR1 visa. Arrived in Nov 2005. We lifted conditions first. You have to have 3 years residency before you can file for citizenship on a marriage visa and still have to be married in order to file at the 3 years. If divorced, then they will have to wait for the full 5 years. We filed for citizenship in Nov 2008. Citizenship final on May 8th 2009. Done with USCIS forever! Hope this helps!

Hello Everyone,
Just an update as I havent been on here much lately. Moh became an American Citizen today! We are finally totally done with this whole process. I never thought we would get to the end as it takes such a long time and tremendous efforts. But we did! As of today he is finished! We only have the passport now!
Wishing the best to everyone in their visa process no matter where you are at in it. Hang in there and in time it too, will be over.

Finally, Please turn us to red! Had the oath ceremony today and its all done and complete! Had the oath in Jefferson City, MO. Was unorganized and took forever to check them in and get everyone in as it was in a very small court room with 40 applicants taking the oath. Not enough seating for everyone. Hard to get any sort of pictures. Took forever but made it thru it. We are done except for the name change on everything! YEAHHHH!
Good luck to the rest that are still waiting!

Hello!
we got our notice for our oath on the friday before easter in the mail. Our interview was feb 23rd and the oath ceremony for us will be may 8th in Jefferson City. that is almost a month notice. we missed the april 8th date in k.c., which we were hoping for. so by the time he takes the oath there will be almost 3 months between interview and oath.
Hope this helps! Perhaps you will hear something soon. Good Luck!

We recieved our oath ceremony letter today. It is going to be on May 8th in Jefferson City. Just as that link suggested. We was hoping for the april one, but offical word came today in the mail, May 8th. Which is better really for us as we do NOT have to travel for it.
Did you hear anything yet?

I just hope we wont have to wait months!!
Me too! its been almost a month already for us! we jsut want to get it done with!
I dont know if these dates are accurate, check them out! http://www.mow.uscourts.gov/natcerem.htm
Interesting dates. Thanks so much for the link. I found that intersting. Maybe our oath will be on April 10th in k.c. or better for us May 8 in Jefferson City as that is where we live. It would be much easier for us to be done locally but will take any day we can get! We will know more when we get our Oath Letter! Will keep you posted so you can compare!

Hello everyone. My husband is now a United States Citizen. We arrived for the oath ceremony about 11:30, scheduled for 1 p.m. I enjoyed the ceremony so much. I admire the way the judge spoke along with those guests present. There were 48 new citizens, ranging from age 24 to age 81. Each one stood and said "good afternoon Your Honor, My name is ...... and I am from........ I only wish many had spoken up because I found learning where each was from was so nice. In the process we heard one other woman say she was from Morocco so my husband made sure we went to congratulate her before she got away. Afterwards they had punch and cake. It was a beautiful day in Columbus, Ohio. We have finished our visa journey and it couldn't have ended in a nicer way. Thank you and everyone here on VJ for their support the last few years. Our best to each of you. I know I'll be checking back in when I can to cheer the rest of you on.
Good Luck Always
Doreen
Congratulations Doreen! Glad to hear it is all done and finally complete for you guys! Hopefully we will be too before too much longer!

What I have read on other posts about the issue of name change during the interview is, in that case, they have to take oath in front of judge.Congratulations to everyone on their approvals and oath ceremonies.
Do you think that some have to wait if they choose to do a name change and notify them at the interview? Just a thought.
Keep changing those names to RED, love it!
Doreen
In Kansas City, the dept of homeland security is in a building by itself way north of k.c. by the airport. This is an office for immigration issues only. Several who interviewed that day was told the same thing, that they would have to come back and it would be downtown at the federal building. I know one couple had a lawyer and as they came out he was explaining it to them. Even the security guard was talking to me about the cookbook i brought to read and he was telling me the same thing. maybe it varies by offices and what and where they are located. I know my nephew married a girl from South Africa and her interview was 3 years ago and this happened to her the same way. Maybe that is just how some offices are, you have to come back to a different location and date. I wished it was all the same day. My husband had his name change on the N-400 when we submitted it. Would have been so easy for same day.....

Quick quesiton, what happens to the green card after the interview? If you are approveed, does the officer take it away?
We were told to hang on to it until the oath. He was given it back at the interview. We are to make sure we bring it to the oath as at that time it is given to them there and you will not see it again. If we forget to bring it, he will not be able to take the oath. That is what we were told at our interview on Monday.
Hope this helps!

Congrats!
Name change??
Yes he is changing his legal name to a more american name. I know sad isnt it. We have had to endure so much discrimmination because of his name that he felt it was best to change it. I told him he will always be Moh (Mohammad) to me and it was totally his decision. I did not even know he did it for sure until he came back out of the interview.
Thanks to all for the best wishes!

Our officer asked him about his job and where he worked. She also asked him if we had bought a house together. His file was about 4 inches thick he said. He told her that we had and she looked for that papers and it was in the file. she said that is good. and he asked her if she wanted the originals that we had to bring. the only thing she looked at was my divorce papers from my ex husband, which was already in the file. She asked about the taxes, as we have not done this years yet, he told her that. She stated that was okay, that they had the last 3 years that we submitted. Other than that, she didnt ask for anything more than what we submitted. Of course we sent a lot of stuff, hoping that it would help and i guess it did.
Hope this helps....

rightD...Congratulations on approval and for the oath AND getting done...What a reliefOne quick question, was your wife asked to show documents to strengthening the proof of marriage and/or anyother documents during the interview or they just went through the application.
I guess it depends on IO.
Thanks a lot for sharing the experience.
Good news from the Baltimore DO... My wife had her interview, was approved and took her oath this afternoon. We are DONE.The day got off to a slow start... We arrived at the DO about a 1/2 hour early, but as it turned out they were running about 1.5 hours behind schedule. From the look of the waiting room they were not THAT busy, but such is life.
The interview itself was straightforward. They asked my wife 6 questions from a pre-printed list of 10, had her read and write a sentence, went over the information from the N-400 and told her she had been approved. The Officer gave her a "recommended for approval" form letter, a letter telling her to return for the oath ceremony that afternoon and also had her sign the front of one of her pictures (which later showed up on her Naturalization Certificate).
The ceremony was straightforward as well. A group of 38 participants (+ various family members) were brought to a large conference room that had been designated for that purpose. An Officer went over the packet of information that had been provided, said a few words and then handed proceedings over to an attending USCIS Supervisor. She said a few words, played the anthem, and then had the participants recite the oath and everyone recite the pledge of allegiance.
Afterwards the they handed out the Naturalization Certificates and everyone took pictures.
FWIW, the Officer told my wife that the Baltimore DO was conducting same-day oath ceremonies for people who have their interviews M-TH (and who are approved, of course).
If I left something out please feel free to ask...

Congrats to you to be finally done! I wished ours was the same day! Instead it will be another return long long drive for us for one more day. THey told us that the reason they did not have the oath the same day was that there is not a federal judge in the homeland security office building. This will be done later at the federal building in downtown kansas city. We will see after we get the oath letter!
Anways, Congrats on your success!

Hi All,
Wanted to share the good news with everyone! Today was Moh's interview for citizenship and he was approved! We had the interview in K.C. It was veyr simple and very easy and only took about 15 mins. He was told the oath would be 1 to 2 months but we would get a letter. We are almost done with this whole process! It was the new test. He was asked 6 questions, was told to write one sentence and had to read one sentence. They went over his paperwork and had him sign a form for his name change. It was quick and much easier than what we thought! Long day but well worth it. The people at the KC Dept of Homeland security was nice and friendly and was so quick and easy! Been a very long journey but its almost completed!
Wanted to share the good news!

Hi All,
We had our interview today. Arrived in K.C. early. Was called back for interview early. Was a woman officer doing the interview. She asked him 6 questions from the new test which he got correctly. They had him read one sentence and write one sentence. THey went over his paperwork on the N400 and printed out the form for him to sign on the name change. He was approved for citizenship. Was told that the oath will be 1 - 2 months from now. It was very easy and very simple. Did not take 15 mins at the most. We were stressing about the english and spelling words. THey used all from the list provided.
SO approved 2/23/09 YEAH!!!!!!
Good Luck to all that is still waiting!

moe_lisa,
May I know when you received your interview letter, please? I am also going through the NSC and my NOA is 11/14/2008.
Our interview letter is dated 1/7/09, we received it in the mail on 1/9/09. Had biometrics in St louis, interview is in Kansas City on 2/23/09. seemed like we got it pretty quickly. It was mailed from the Lee's Summit MO office of Dept of Homeland Security. Maybe it has to do with field offices and their schedules. When we had biometrics they told us 3 to 6 months until the interview. A lot faster than what they told us. Hope this helps you with your questions.
Good Luck! Hope you hear something soon!
