  1. Hi there,

I entered the USA from Canada on a K1 Visa and am now residing in Texas with my new hubby (we got married yesterday).

My question is in regards to changing my name and applying for AOS. Since I'm in Texas it was not required that I have a SSN to get married, so I have not yet applied for one. I'm wondering since we are now married if I should apply for my SSN using his surname. Also, when filling out forms for AOS should I also use his surname or my maiden name?

    Thank you!

  3. Last Thursday I had my interview at the consulate in Vancouver, Canada. After 9 months of waiting and paperwork beginning in October 2012, my K1 visa to enter USA has been approved!

Jarad and I are both so thankful we did this with the help of VJ, I don't know where we would have been without the forms and everyone giving such great answers to questions.. The example forms were a life saver as well!! Cheers to not having to get a lawyer!

Best of luck to those still waiting for their interview or who have just submitted!

  5. So I jumped the gun when filling out the DS-156 form (I was way too excited) and filled it out, totally forgetting to look at the example forms on VJ.

I messed up on question 37 and did not list my fiancé is a US citizen, I didn't thoroughly read the question.

Since this form has a bar code will it mess up my papers if I fill out the form again and print it?

I appreciate any advice and help, thank you!

  6. My fiancé is filling out the affidavit of support form I-134.

We have a question in regards to #11, "if you intend to make specific contributions to the support of persons named (myself, the beneficiary) indicate the exact nature and duration of the contribution."

He intends to support me with groceries, rent etc given I will be living with him and becoming his wife. What would be the best amount and duration to list? This question has made us confused because he wants to support me for the rest of our lives or until I can get my work visa and help with expenses.

    Thank you for your help!

  7. After having a tough week missing my fiancee, today we recieved news that our NOA2 has been approved!! As a young couple we could not have done this without the help and guidance here on VJ. The support of everyone going through the same process is amazing. Thank you all.. praying for everyone who is awaiting their approval.. we have all been there!
