  1. I have a question, what are the supporting documents that I need to bring with me for my interview tomorrow?

I have the list of my own and please check if it's good already.

I have no ssn yet so you may notice that I have no joint bank account with my husband and other things.

so here are my list that I'll bring with me tomorrow

    1) my birth certificate and his

    2) his naturalization

    3) photos of our marriage and other trips

    4) marriage contract/certificate

    5) 2011 tax return/ 1040

    6) bank statements for the whole year of 2012

    7) titles of his cars-> copy and original

    8) business title and record

    9) and of course the letter that I received for my interview.

  2. you can file an infopass online. where do you live currently, what state are you in? try to visit this link http://infopass.uscis.gov/

find the phrase "click here for English" and the journey begins for your infopass. you'll get an appointment that you should print the page and carry it with you on your date of appointment in your local office of homeland security department.

Where do you file an infopass? And when i submitted my 2012 she was not married to me so no I did not have her on my tax return. 2013 I did add her to my tax return because she was here and has been here for the 3 months. I am not sure that we could have claimed anything else and even if I dont claim anything else the navy gives me money for her to be with me so its not like a normal job where i have to make enough to pay for my wife. ( perks i guess but they come with a cost :P ) Anyway I will try to get an infopass and hope that I get it before our time expires.

  3. I got an RFE too. Did you file an income tax return jointly with your wife? because that's what I and my husband would do after I get my green card as some of the members here advised me to do so. Anyway about your thing, We got the same thing, although we thought that we submitted all the required evidence but when we went for our infopass there are things that we forgot to submit. if you have cars or any things that can be converted into money, you can add that too, copy of the title of your car and I suggest use the kelley bluebook for checking the price of your car as advised by the officer in charge with my infopass. If you think you have done mistake on the filing of I-864 then redo and submit it again together with the letter that you got. I suggest that please try to get an infopass for you to have more clearer understanding. take a copy of everything that you submitted for AOS in your interview for info pass so that the interviewer can give you more clearer answer and exact thing you need to do. tax return for 2012 should be filed jointly even if your wife is currently not working.

  4. does that mean I can work with the conditional 2 year green card in my hand? I just don't wanna mess anything because my husband trusted me to read information before we mailed my AOS. I might be branded as irresponsible if I missed something that is very important. unsure.gif Also I just don't want to be a burden, at least that's how I think by not having any job currently for waiting for my 2 year conditional green card.

    The conditional 2-year green card.

  5. yes I am referring to the 2 year conditional residency. I know that I have to wait for the physical green card for me to work but last night was thinking about this so much to the point that I got confused. so here's another question, can I work after I get my 2 year conditional residency approval or the 2 year green card in my hand without EAD ? I want to clarify in my head. I want to make every action that I'll make in future would be all correct without violating any law.

  6. if you got shot before you came here, just bring that with you. When I submitted my AOS, I submitted the record of my medical examination that I had back in Philippines, I even sent the cd on a sealed envelope and later on they gave it back to me. whatever may happen don't open the sealed cd in an envelope. let them open it because that's what they want to see. when they gave back my cd sealed in an envelope it was not yet open, they didn't do anything about it but I need to bring it back with me in my interview date just in case. they will just get the record of your shots from you.

  7. at POE, they will just take your picture, finger prints, asking for the packet that you receive from the US embassy, he/she might ask where do you intend to live, what is your sponsor/ fiance's name and contact number. Don't open the yellow packet. your passport and the yellow packet will be in one transparent plastic. just take your passport and whatever may happen don't open the yellow packet because you might not be allowed to enter USA if it's open. they will ask you if you know the process and if you don't, they will just simply remind you that, that was on my case but I'm pretty sure that it would be all the same. my POE was in Honolulu. Security were so friendly. about your green card it's up to your case. If you are coming to US as fiancee/fiance, you need to get married in 3 months and submit your adjustment of status to homeland security and that's another process again. getting a green card is not instant :)

About your hand Luggage, put every important thing, like the yellow packet, your money, birth certificate and other important documents. IF you have laptop you should carry it with you and never put in your baggage.

Just relax when you arrive at your point of entry and especially talking to the officer in charge of your case.

    Hi,

My visa was approved yesterday at my interview :) Just waiting on the courier now to deliver it to me!

I have a few questions about POE. What happens when you go through immigration? Might sound a silly question but do you get taken into a room and asked any more questions? Any other documents I should carry in my hand luggage?

Also, how long after I arrive in the US will my green card be sent to me? Does this happen automatically or do i have to apply for it?

I hope I have posted this question in the right forum.

Many thanks for your advice as always!

  8. I've been in that kind of situation actually. all they will ask you is your passport, they will check the I-94 of your husband if it's still valid or not. and mostly no questions. I didn't get ssn that time because my I-94 got expired. 14 days is normal because some offices of social security administration had a policy of 1 month or something like that. don't worry about questions like when did he arrive because they will see it in his passport. You just tell them if when did he exactly arrive in USA. in his I-94 shows when it will expire. for example I arrive here september 27 and the expiration date of my I-94 is December 25, as long as you didn't exceed yet to the expiration date of your I-94, you can still get an ssn but if it's expired you don't need to bother yourself to go and get one or even attempt to get one because you'll just be refuse.

My husband and i went to go get his ssn and they told us we had to wait 14 days. Done. So we are on our way today to get the ssn. They mentioned that they will ask us questions like when did he arrive. Can they do that? Is anyone familiar with this?

  9. your money is a bank account is not enough. my sweetheart which is my current husband right now has more than 15,000$ in his bank account plus his assets. so generally, I passed a record of his saving from bank account and copy of his assets that is convertible to money, such as title of cars under his name. I also took with me his tax transcript in the interview and everything went smooth plus a lot of prayers :).

those 18,000$ should be in you bank account. CO likes to see that written in a paper and don't forget to get a statement from one of the bankers or official from your bank account in case you made that money in a short period of time and send it to your sweetheart. You need to get a co-sponsor but if your sweetheart is from Philippines, I'm not sure if they want to see a co-sponsor because from what I know the US embassy in Philippines don't accept a co-sponsor. My husband wanted to do that before but he didn't. If you wanna try to get a co-sponsor it's up to you, you don't have to take my words for that.

I GOT A QUESTION.. MAYBE SOMEBODY KNOWS THE ANSWER!! I NEED LIKE $19.300 TO BE A SPONSOR// WHAT IF I MADE $18.000 LAST YEAR BUT I HAVE $4.000 IN MY BANK... DO YOU THINK I WILL BE FINE OR I SHOULD STILL GET A CO-SPONSOR JUST TO BE ON A SAFE SIDE!!! ???

  10. is the green card you got is for 2 years not for 10 years? so far as I know it will not be a problem as for now but you cannot adjust your status if you guys are separated. what was the reason why you guy separated right away? why not tell more info about it.

I got my Green Card few months ago through marriage but unfortunately right now we are separated will this affect my immigration status and i also want to know if this will pose a problem for me when i am ready to adjust my status. Thank you

  11. you don't need an attorney. Just read some forum here and ask some question and you'll find answer. The whole time, I and my husband did it all by ourselves with the help of GOD not of an attorney.

I'm an international stduent from Japan. I am a junior at college in NY state. I met my husband (American citizen)on the internet in March 2010. I came to the USA as an F-1 student in August 2010 and went see him in person in GA during winter break in 2011. My parents got upset when I told them everything honestly about our relationship, so I went back to Japan to talk with my parents during the same break. But my parents tried to separate us for good by saying if I don't break up with my husband for good, they will keep me in Japan, etc.... I spent most of my money I had saved on a plane ticket to go back to GA and got married to my husband the next day. I found that it could be seen as fraud because I entered the USA to study in the USA and got married the next day.. but after marriage in January 2012, while it was still winter break, my parents decided to keep funding me like they had before, and my husband and I started living together near my college and I have been going to school. So will we be okay as long as we prove that our marriage is real and for love?

My story continues though.. last fall (2012) my father in law lost his job and yet spent a lot of money on our living expenses etc, so my parents suddenly said they were not going to pay for the apartment rent this time, I had to talk with my parents and they said if I come back to Japan for the winter break, they will pay the rent. But when I went back, they told me to get a divorce with my husband, otherwise they will stop funding me. I went back to school last month and I'm still in school, but we decided to stay married and my parents are not funding me anymore.

We would like to apply for green card through marriage, and we will be ready financially next month. But we don't have enough money for apartment from next semester and I am thinking of having a leave of absence and go back to GA with my husband to live with his parents for a while. We would like to move during summer break, which will start in May and end in August, but if I move after applying for green card but haven't got approved yet, will I be in trouble, or do I just need to report the change of address? I am worried because I know I will remain an international stduent until I get green card. But since this will be during summer break, I was wondeirng if it is okay.

Also, my husband's family want to be our joint sponsor, and they get upset when I indicate I want to get a different one.. My husbands' father has been in bankruptcy although his income itself had been pretty high until last year. As for this year, he got a new job last December, and his working hours differ from week to week, and the annual income for this year may not be enough for the household size.. When I said that to my mother in law, she said you only need to estimate this year's annual income, and my father in law is looking for a better job and my brother in law can get a job soon, so everything is fine. Is it really so? I read the instruction for I-864, and it does sound like USCIS does not care too much about this year's income, but I don't know the reality..

Also, as much as we want an attorney, we may not come up with enough money for an attorney. Is our case still doable without an attorney? We have been asking questions to attorneys for free as much as we can, but would we need an attorney at the interview? We already tried pro vono, but they had a long waiting lists for people with complicated issues like deportation, so they didn't take us.. They said our case is straightforward but the people who said that were not real attorneys but just assistants at the office. Lawyers say our case is a little complicated but we should be still okay.

Finally, what happens if I fail to get green card whether I'll be in NY or GA at the time of denial? Would I be immediately deported?
