  1. hi nurseling! hi everyone! wow we already have 64 pages of this thread....

I'm sorry to hear you havent gotten your greencard yet.

As for me, mine was sent a week after our interview on May 20. But we received our EAD Apr 9 so that is not really very impt to me.

Finally, i got me a job after months of searching. it isnt much but its a start. I will start working next week. Wish me luck!

And enjoy your masters gurl:) Keep in touch!

  2. Hi Everyone,

I had an interview on April 16th in NYC and it went great! The immigration officer told us everything looks great and that all i need to do is to send them a letter from court stating that my name is clear. Which I did the very next day.

How long is the wait from now? Is anyone in similar situation?

I know they got it on Monday the 21st, and now i am just biting my nails waiting.

    Thanks everyone and good luck!!

hi there! congrats on your interview. May i ask if they required or asked you to submit the I-693 form? or did they already have you medical since you already went thru it before leaving for the US? just curious as ours is nearing and want to make sure i have everything they needed...

    thanks in advance:)

  3. Has she traveled elsewhere before? This won't address her current plans, but if she has traveled to other countries as a tourist, that would improve her chances next time.

For now, why not plan on a family reunion in a different country?

yes, she has been to hongkong, macau, china and last january of this year to singapore with my mom since they denied her a visa to attend my wedding, my mom couldnt go either as her passport was expired (we failed to check it coz she has a 10 yr multiple entry visa, we thought the passport was good for that time also forgetting its only good up to 5 yrs) they figured they'd just plan a trip to singapore to kick back and relax and so my mom wont feel too lonely with my going away.

we cant plan the reunion at a different country as i just got here last year and would need to stay for my greencard requirements of residency. also, my bro in LA works and cant afford taking time off.

thanks for your input tho G. Simoun, she is filling out the DS160 now and would just leave it up to Him upstairs. If she gets denied for the 4th time, then i guess its not yet her time to visit me here and see the US for herself.

Thanks to everyone that shared their thoughts on the matter. really appreciate it. God bless!

  5. hi there everyone! just to update, well, after we were done receiving all our EADs last apr 9, exactly a week after that, we got an email notice that our I-485 app is due for interview on May 20 and that we should wait for our instructions in the mail. wow, we havent even found a job yet...but i am still happy.

my only question is, i wonder where our interview would be held? oh well, gotta patiently wait for the letter for that i guess....

good luck to everyone else waiting on their GC.

    :luv::luv::luv:

  6. Well I don't believe that, being denied a tourist visa isn't a big issue. There was recently a posting about someone's mom applying 10 times before receiving her tourist visa.

    "Endure to persevere"

i will let her know about that fact hank. it will make her feel a lot better for sure.

You know she has no bad intentions, but until the consulate is satisfied of that, she is not gettnig her visa.

Think in terms of her having things in Phil that she would not want to abandon, like family, real estate, business, money in bank, good job. Those are the kinds of things that sway the consular officers.

yeah, she has a kid that she cannot leave for longer than 2 weeks as she would worry abt him and miss him, real estate, she just sold her house and split the proceeds with her estranged ex husband so that being said, she has a hefty amount in the bank from that transaction, she has a very stable job but when you compare it to the amount she can make if she were to work here, it still would look miniscule. but that's her problem getting this thru the IO's mindset, they wont believe her and just have their own convictions on the matter,

they wont believe that she would go back to her kid, that she doesnt wanna overstay and work illegally here...that's why she is so frustrated as does it really damn her chances once she is in the medical field?

  7. as a background, she is 42, already got annulled from a failed marriage, has a 10 (or 12?) yr old kid, is a medical technologist by profession and has a stable spot at the government medical center.

she is from the phils and wants to visit me and my bro here in the US. she already tried 3x and got denied. 1st i think they said its abt her profession, 2nd they said its abt her family ties (coz she applied with her son), 3rd they just denied her when she said she wanted to accompany my mom to my wedding.

she is rather pessimistic abt this 4th try and getting all depressed....truth be told, she doesnt have any plans to overstay or anything, she just wants to see us, get a feel of how it is out here, tour the places, accompany my mom who is sick and weak to travel by herself and go back home with her (after 2 weeks) since her job and kid awaits her.

what do you think she can say or do apart from tell the truth? i am all ears if anyone here has any tips...i know its a long shot but she wants to try anyways...

would appreciate anyone who can share their experience/expertise on the matter.

  8. thanks for the encouraging words MaleAlpha :luv::luv::luv::luv::luv:

i wish i could have started earlier just like you did but i was focused on waiting for my kids' EAD so they can get their SSN and help them apply first before i did....because i figured if i got employed ahead of them, i wont have the time to help them look for their own jobs later.

i am now browsing thru jobs at indeed.com as you suggested....hopefully, it wont be long....i only have 3 considerations, 1-pay, 2-job i like/enjoy doing and 3-location as i am not able to drive so it should be nearby for me to ride a bus or trolley or ask my hubby to drop me off....

trying to look for receptionist/clerical/admin work in the meantime but whatever is available, i am not really choosy:)

Good luck on your job! i am sure it pays well as i never know of any IT person that aint paid more :goofy::goofy::goofy: i am so happy for you!!! Go get em!

  9. so happy for everyone that received their EADs and passed their GC interviews!!!! :dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing:

Good job CJC!!!! Im so happy for you!!! Way to go MaleAlpha!!! And Nurseling, so sorry you had to threaten those uscis peeps with your whip, but it all went well in the end coz you got your EAD within this week so thats grand!!!!

As for us, we got our EADs in the mail last 4/9. There was a slight hiccup as my son's got sorted at the wrong area and we had to pick his up at that other usps office so we can all apply together for SSN. We were running late and hoped for a miracle that we get processed soon and what do you know, the SSA office was completely empty when we got there!!!! What were the odds? Needless to say, we got my 2 kids' papers saying that the SSN card would be mailed out in 1-2 weeks and my SSN is good to go and need not be changed anymore since it is on my married name already and has a note saying VALID for WORK with DHS authorization which the lady said would be my EAD...so it was all good!

Thanks guys for sharing your driving test experiences as that would be helpful for my kids when they do take theirs later in 4/22.

Now, i am off to go job hunting!!! So exciting! Wish me luck guys!!!

    Enjoy your weekend everyone!!!!

  10. i Saw a few people before posting about the tracking number. However, i cant recollect how long after you get the text/email approval, do you receive the tracking info? Its been 2 days, and I haven't received anything. Can someone give me some advice? :help: I would greatly appreciate it. :innocent:

my daughter got an email notice of EAD approva 3/28 then AP on 3/29. Then on Apr 2, she got another email telling her it was mailed out. i checked the website, its for delivery friday which is the 2 day priority usps mail they use....so dont worry, you would get yours pretty soon. smile and have a fun filled weekend:)

  11. JB - I agree with Indeed.com - it pretty much posts jobs from all the other sites. I also like Careerbuilder. If I was you, I would get a resume together, if you haven't already done so. Make sure they're filled with Key Words that potential recruiters or job seekers would be looking for. Thats how they filter you out. Then post it on indeed.com, careerbuilder.com and even Monster.com - you won't always hear back when you apply, but some do respond. And let them find you as well. But you have to stand out - so make sure you have those buzz words. Because First and foremost - you have to get someone to take an interest and look at your resume from the thousands and thousands out there. Good Luck

that's awesome info right there....buzz words huh? i wonder what those might be so everyone would go flocking at my resume....hehehehe thanks R&I journey:) really appreciate it:)

Also check news papers like AJC is atlanta one find out what your local ones are. they tend to advertise jobs. I put my resume on indeed and monster and joined glass door. I had a huge response just by posting my resume up loads of recruiters and agency's contacted me. It doesn't take long to write your resume. Glass door will send daily jobs in your inbox so does monster jobs. Just get that set up and your good to go.

thanks:) will do just that...now dont worry about your EAD/AP card. a day or two before they mail it out, they'd send you another email telling you its been mailed out. once you check your status on uscis website, it will give you the tracking number, with or without it, your card would be received in a matter of 2 days coz they send it thru 2 day priority usps way....so smile:) your card would be in the mail by next week just in time for your orientation on apr 14:)

  12. Hi JBForever.

I am not sure what field you are looking for jobs in but for me www.indeed.com really worked very good for me (I am in the Tech area and being in Portland might be a reason too). You have the option of putting your resume on indeed too. You will have a couple of recruiters call you but they are very good in setting you up for interviews. www.glassdoor.com is another good site to look for jobs. There are others like www.dice.com and www.monster.com but I haven't tried them. I just used only indeed.com and it works really good for me.

Good luck on the job hunting! and Good luck to everyone here. Looks like these past 2/3 weeks have been very productive for us all :-)

As a matter of personal preference I stay away from Craigslist from anything other than when I want to purchase something. There are lots of internet trolls and spam activities there.

thanks for the heap of info, id be sure to keep those in mind...will let you know how it turns out for me. Good luck on your interviews too:)

Depends on what kind of job you are looking for. I'm on indeed.com, monster.com and google search for jobs in Atlanta, friends, family members. Im not sure about jobs on craigslist. the only thing we bought on craigslist was our lovely puppy and washer & dryer.

i am looking for office/admin jobs or call center jobs, been a BS foreign service graduate back in the phils. thanks for the info, really helpful:)

  13. congratulations to everyone that heard good news this week!!!! time to party :dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing:

but guys, i have a question....where do i begin searching for jobs?:cry: i got so wrapped up waiting for the EAD and now that its about to come, i am clueless where i should start. is the craigslist the most viable tool to start with? any sites you guys can recommend? would love to hear some suggestions :goofy:

have a happy weekend all january filers!!!! we deserve it!!!

  14. I have been lurking in the background for sometime now. Congratulations to everyone that has gotten their EAD and AP approvals especially R&I Journey, JBForever, CJC, Nurseling etc. Trust me it feels good having the EAD and for some weird reason it makes the time pass faster as you don't overly keep focusing on the GC timeline. I applied for my SSN lasty thursday, 03/27/2014 and from updates from my sister-in-law who works at the SSA office (fortunately), my SSN should be arriving anytime soon (Latest by saturday). Looks like it doesn't take too much time to do the verification with DHS these days.

ohh i am so excited for you malealpha:)

i already have my SSN in my married name but it says valid for work only if with DHS work auth...so i guess once i get the EAD id still have to go back to SSA and have them change it to valid for work period?

i sure would be off to go to DMV and get that state ID...aint this exciting:) congrats to each one of us who toughened it out and took the journey:) what a blast it was:) :dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing: time to he happy and thankful:)

  15. great news!!! i was just saying that you'd be getting that EAD pretty soon and there it is!!!! give it a week from the time they notified you of the card production. my daughter's said the same thing last week and her card is already for mailing thru USPS 2 day priority mail and is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow...exactly a week from it:) so good news gurl!!! go get them!!! am so happy for you!!!! :dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing:

  16. :dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing::dancing: sorry guys but i couldn't contain my excitement...finally, got an update email saying my son's EAD is now in card production....so i was feeling happy and sad coz his came thru but mine hasnt...then the following hour, my email notice came thru!!!! i cant believe it! on the same day!!!! so i bet yah nurseling, you are next!!!!

am just glad to share the news to everyone coz we are all in the same boat...and here is hoping those that are still waiting will hear the elusive news soon!!! In God's perfect time, never too early nor too late:) :luv::luv::luv::luv:

  17. just to update again, after getting notice (3/28) of my daughter's EAD/AP being approved, i got an email saying it was mailed out 4/2. So still hoping my son's and mine would be done next:)

in the off topic, hey CJC, nurseling and everybody else on this thread that might know of one, you think you guys have guy friends that may be interested to chat with a Filipina? my sister is killing me to introduce her to someone from here but i barely go out at all and have minimal friends in my hubby's area.

i know its a long shot but i figured it never hurts to ask....if anyone feels they know of someone, pls send me a private msg..thanks:)

and good luck to everyone else waiting:) i think the wait isnt that long anymore:)

  18. No wukkas JB...lol....I had been holding back on my Aussieness since I got here, but I can't help it any longer, I need to be myself and not hide my inner bogan....lol

Whilst the wait on our processing has been challenging, it has been a great comfort sharing the journey with folks like yourself, it is good not feeling so alone hey.. :). Thank you google because you helped me find VJ and my VJ friends..lol

    true that CJC:)

no kidding, this was the worst journey for me what with having to wait 1 yr and 6 mos for my K1 visa and now, for my AOS/GC (good thing my daughter's EAD/AP card got approved in 75 days) .....but with friends in VJ like you, it makes it all the more bearable....

and never hold back on who you are, we are beautiful in our own unique way...no need to be anybody else:) we were petitioned by our significant others for a reason....and they found that with us, no one else over here...so be proud:)
