I too got a message "Alien Registration Number Changed..". I was also confused and worried. But I got an approval after 3 days. So What I assume and learnt from other posts as well is that this is a positive thing.
My journey so far
* arrived in US on dependent visa - Dec, 2012
* Got my SSN Dec 2012 (without EAD)
* e filed I 765 - Jan 1st week, 2013
* Alien registration number changed message - Jan 3rd week
* Biometrics appointment - Jan end
* Approval Jan end (so today I got the approval). pretty quick, according to me
