  1. I think you just have to be patient... When I changed my name, it took three weeks for them to verify my status and send me my new card. And I bet nothing will happen until the government shutdown issue is resolved. unsure.png

Thank you for the response, I am very patience, I just needed to know if something else should be done. By the way, it's already a month....

but again, you are right, nothing will be done until the government re-open.

  2. ya, DHS Verification at the SSA office is abysmal - but the SSA office IS OPEN and yer category of thing to do, I think, can be done/checked on at the local office.

    Thank ya'll for your response.

I am in Mississippi, so we don't have local USCIS offices here in the State, the closest one is in New Orleans...

Do you think I shouldn't worry about and let them send me a new social security card when they verify my name and status or shall I schedule an INFOPASS?

    Thanks

  3. Hello VJ friends,

On Sept. 11, I received my employment authorization card... I was so happy!

I went to renew my driving license and they said I need to change my name in the social security administration office first, allow 24 hrs and then go back.

I went to the social security administration office and they tried to change my name, but USCIS haven't updated the system and they have to wait (they sent a request of verification), I don't really understand what is going on, and I am just wondering how long more its going to take?, It's been over a month since they sent the request of verification, now I bet the problem with the SSA is the government shutdown -_-

Does anybody had problems to get their name verified or changing their name?

What else should I expect?, how soon is this going to be solve?

    Thank you!

  4. We had a biometrics appointment September 10, today we got a notice in the mail for an interview October 29. I thought they were just going to send the green card in the mail...is this a bad sign? what should we expect to be asked? how should we prepare?

Hey girl, this is a great news!!! I haven't receive any kind of notifications, cases without interview are taking over a year. Is a normal interview and after that, within a month he'll get his greencard.

    Good luck!! and congrats

  5. Does anyone here have any experience with RFEs? My RFE response was received on August 17th, and there has not been an update since. Of course when I called them just now, they told me that I have to give them 60 days from the day my response was received. ClockWatch2.gif

We received a RFE on the mail like August 15th, we sent their request almost immediately and it changed on August 21st to "Request for Evidence Response Review"....

On Sept 3rd, my EAD was approved and now is in "Card Production".

AOS is in Response Review yet.

  6. win what? If she wants to take her child back home she needs to have a custody agreement, she cannot simply take the child with her.

Let's say she seeks professional help, and explain she came on a K1, and that she aint get married because of "any kind of abuse", they won't allow him to stay with the baby. They would find the way to proof it'll be better if the baby stays with her mom.... That's what I was thinking, but she better find professional advice.

And do not take the baby with you without his agreement, it could become a problem.

  7. there's no better place than a hand of a loving parent to mold a child..not because it's the u.s soil my daughter would have a quality life..i myself would love to give her the complete family she deserves but with a father who would in some other way broke his own family in almost always verbal abuses..then it's better for us not to get married at all..anyway when my daughter would reach her mature age she will learn to find her real dad..i wouldn't deprive her of her father..

thank you aaron for this link..hope i could find help.with.it sooner..

If this is true, you have rights it doesn't matter your legal status. so, if there is any kind of abuse, you win.

  8. Research ... I think one time I heard you have to be married for at least 2 years to qualify; there are other important stuffs to consider.

Think about it, if is that much much easier why don't much much people choose this way??

If the two years requirement is not for CDF, then I am pretty sure it's the best. Anyways you have been living there and you said you are dominican, so you'll have cedula and all the other requirements.

    Good luck!

  9. hi there, for what I've heard it depends on the location.

For example I'm from the Dominican Rep, and my fiance had to come necessarily, if not it would be like visa suicide for me if I decided to go alone, in the other hand there are countries that doesn't need the presence of the petitioner at all. My suggestion, check the webpage of the American Embassy in Poland, read from the portal and get ready to go if you have to.

    Good luck!

  10. Same here, filed ours the same day as you and it arrived on Saturday and still nothing yet. It's very hard to be patient (and not think of a million things that could have gone wrong to hold things up) with something as important as this!

Maybe this should be the official thread for July filers? It doesn't seem like there is one yet and this would be a great place for everyone filing in July to keep each other updated on how things go for them.

I agree!, I don't really know how to add people, but I'd like to keep in touch with all of the July fillers.

It would be like a support team lol. I've thought about a million things too, my driving license would be good until August 14.

  11. Yes but the instruction form is really vague about the adress. Is it the Chicago or Phoenix lockbox?? (i am in illinois)

It goes to the Chicago lockbox.

Use your married name, if not it would cost money to change it in the future from your green card and etc.

And you need copies of your i-94 both sides, marriage certificate copies (certified copies preferable), passport copies, visa copies..... can't remember what else.

    Good luck with your application.

  12. So I sent the AOS package last friday and it was signed for at 11am on Monday. Its now Thursday and I do not yet have a text msg from them or the $ withdrawn from my bank account. Can someone tell me how long does it usually take for them to open the package and start working on it? I know im quite impatient but is what it is lol

    vross, I feel you!

I sent mine last Thursday and it was delivered on Saturday, still waiting. Let's be patience lol

  13. So here is the new thing we have to go through.... Need your help VJ friends.

I've been in the US for two weeks now, I came under a K1 (fiancee visa), I married my fiancee yesterday and today we went to the local Social Security administration office to apply for a social security. They said we need to notify the USCIS about our marriage, and after that, I have to return and change the name in the social security (because anyways they filed an application today under my maiden name).

    My question is:

Is this a new procedure or what? (I've been reading lots of forums long ago and never heard about notifying the USCIS about your marriage).

The crazy thing is I am in Mississippi and in the local office said the closest USCIS office is in New Orleans, LA! lol so in the whole state, no USCIS office. Anyways is not too bad, its probably 3 hrs away from here.

Please help understand the process and let me know if somebody else had to go through this.

    Thanks!

  14. Wow that's great. I'm also waiting and my fiancé interview was on April 19 and at first when i checked the status it said that it was issued but the the consulate was processing it. And now it says its final and that I should receive it within 10 business days

Mine also say I should receive it within 10 working days!! (But here at Domex they say it might take 6 weeks) :(

  15. Hey guys so during this process when my petition got approved at the uscis and then it was forwarded over to the NVC department the only way I was able to inquire information about my case was by calling the visa specialist. So the other day I stumbled through a forum that had this link and I thought it was very helpful. To search your case you must have a case number which you can get by calling the visa specialist at 202-663-1225. Once you have a case number you may use the following link to track your case.

    https://ceac.state.gov/CEACStatTracker/Status.aspx?

Thank you so much for this great information!!!

My appointment was last April 22nd, we got approved but I haven't received my passport yet, so I went to this site and now I know there is no issues with the visa, it's been issued \o/ yay!!!
