  1. Hey RMV!

First, congrats! My fiancee arrived two and a half weeks ago, and it's a great feeling. Finally whole!

We completed her Social Security application yesterday. It's an extremely easy process (the hardest part was waiting for two hours in the lobby!) and results in her SSN arriving within 7-14 days.

Yes, if you marry this year you can include her on your tax return as married - filing jointly. Remember, though - if you do this, any income that she earned from her time before entering the US will be counted in your total income. Be prepared to provide proof of income, or proof that she wasn't working - whichever fits your case.

Let me know if you have more questions.

  2. While getting the necessary paperwork together to prepare for our October 29, 2013 interview in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, my fiancee discovered something interesting.

Her "father" - whom she did not know, and who was not originally listed on her birth certificate, seems to have "recognized" her as his daughter in 2010, while she was living in Europe.

She now has an additional last name - and a new listing under the paternal side of her certificate - two things that are NOT on our USCIS application (because we didn't know!)

All of her other documentation - including passport, national ID and the Birth Certificate she left the country with in 2008 (which does not include an entry in the paternal fields), are all under the name we used to file our application.

We've gone to a lawyer and gotten a document that was approved by the Corte Suprema which essentially states that "this person with these four names is the same as this person with these three."

However, is this enough? She is filing a petition to remove the additional last name, but that will take six months to process, and her interview is in three weeks.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Hey all,

First, I hope everyone is having good luck with their K1 process. For those of you waiting, stay hopeful - things will go your way. For those who are awaiting their interview, good luck! It's almost time to be with your loved one!

For my part, I'm preparing for my interview in late October. In the initial confirmation email, a note was included stating that the DS-260 was required and should be completed online.

Since then, I've reached out to double check on a few things, and have had the following happen in response to my questions about the DS-260:

    1. In normal print, they've responded that it's not required.

    2. Ten minutes later, in big, red letters they've responded that it's not required.

    3. I've checked the Tegucigalpa embassy site (http://honduras.usembassy.gov/iv_waitptimef.html) which says these documents don't apply to K1, 2 or 3 visas.

At this point, I'm going with "not applicable to my case" and that perhaps the email response I received was generic and accidentally included the link.

I'd just like confirmation of this fact from anyone on this forum who's completed the process!

    Thanks in advance!

  4. Great news guys!

We received our NOA1 from the VSC on February 4, 2013. We got moved to TSC with the lot of you at the middle of June - and I just checked USCIS on a whim and saw we were approved YESTERDAY!

5 months and 21 days from NOA1 to 2 is solid. Thank you to USCIS, and thanks to all the VJers who've posted hope-inspiring information.

I wish everyone who's awaiting a decision a TON of luck!

  5. I checked my case status today and used the built-in Processing Times chart. The chart has been updated to reflect dates as of January 31 - and it says the average VSC processing time is only 5 months!

This is an improvement of an entire month since the last time I reviewed this data.

Has anyone experienced the benefit of this speedier processing? Should I be hopeful?

    Thanks all!
