  1. Hi everyone,

we wanted to make an info pass appointment in san francisco so that we could get a stamp in my wifes passport in order for us to keep traveling as we often do because her 1 year extnsion letter will expire in November 2017. There are no appointments available according to the website and we called in for help and received none, just told us to check for appointments daily. Is there a specific person we can ask to speak to who can make us an appointment to get the stamp in her passport so that we can go on vacation? Thank you.

  2. I just wanted to say that you once you go through your point of entry you should call the social security office once a week to check on getting your social security card. The paperwork that they hand you after the interview will tell you to wait like 90 days or something ridiculous but the problem is that most of us check the box requesting the department of homeland security to automatically issue us a SSN on the DS230 when we go through the POE but they don't follow through. The social security office informed us that the Dept of HS only partially submitted the request and filled in the applicants name incorrectly so we had to wait even longer to get the number which can effect your ability to apply for a job. And we had to find this out by going to the SS Office as they could not find my wife in the system when we called them. Just a heads up to stay on top of these people as the only person looking out for you is you.

  3. Hello,

I have been in California for 4 years working on an E2 Visa. I lost my job but married a US Citizen over a year ago. I do not understand which category I should use for form I-765 #17 and for I-485 Part 2 a-h application type. I do not understand which category I fall into for adjustment of status or employment authorization. I think I have to wait to file 765 until after my 485 has been submitted but not sure? Thank you.

(User is posting this for his best friend who is not a member of visajourney just yet).

  4. ah, interesting question, as I've not heard anyone else query whether the bar-coded sheet goes too. I don't believe it's required at all since it's being hand delivered (if even requested at the interview).

I just have completed /updated AOS's from my 'sponsor-group', and the transcripts x 3 yrs each.

Yes I am wondering if they will even ask about the updated info, I mean I know we are legally supposed to tell them if anything has changed. I just assume it will all come up during the conversation because it is likely they will be talking about what she does for work and what I do for work. Since I quit my job I am sure they will ask for a co-sponsor sheet and we will have it if they do but maybe they won't, who knows. In any case the bar code sheet is part of our entire interview packet that we are bringing so my wife can always just go to the NVC portion of our packet and pull it out from the AOS section....

  5. Hello Everyone,

I will be giving my wife a new I864 and tax transcripts for myself and also an I864, tax transcripts and passport photo page for a cosponsor since I have recently quit my job before our interview date. I have a few questions about how to handle the submission of these documents as they wont be scanned into NVC but instead given to the consulate during the interview:

    1) Do I need a new cover letter listing the documents being submitted and why we are submitting it (one reason being I now have my 2013 tax info which we didnt before and the other being that I now have a co-sponsor as I quit my job)?

    2) Do I need to include the original bar code cover sheet again?

    Thank you!

  6. Hello,

Are we supposed to bring updated "proof of ongoing relationship" items to our interview? I thought that this was already established and approved at the I-130 stage? We have all of the original information submitted at that stage (pictures, skype, plane tickets, etc) but I am wondering if we are supposed to bring updated things like the newer tickets and pictures since then....Thanks.

  7. Thank you to everyone who answered my question regarding the fee's.

I now have a set of another questions:

    1) Does my wife need to leave her Canadian passport at the interview? (I assumes so in order for them to insert the visa into the passport)

    2) This is where I am freaking out a bit: If they are keeping my wife's passport and mailing it back does that mean that we have to leave her passport in the unopened package before we do our POE? I ask because we are going to Europe in September and obviously she needs to use her passport for this trip.

    Thank you.

  8. Does anybody know how long it takes Montreal to return Passport after interview. Hubby is coming here to Canada to help me move and he will need to book the time off soon. Need to get a rough estimate of what kind of time frame we are looking at to schedule his time off. Thnks

You mean they actually take the existing Canadian passport away from you at the interview and don't give it back?!

  9. Is this a case complete?:

    Dear Sir or Madam:

The National Visa Center has received all documentation necessary to complete pre-processing
of your case. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner
and attorney (if applicable) will be notified.

The applicant should NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment
until the US Embassy or Consulate General has issued a visa.

The US Embassy or Consulate General may require additional documentation at the time of
the interview. Additional documentation requirements if applicable can be referenced at
    the following URL: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3742.html

    Sincerely,

    Director
    National Visa Center

  10. Hey there, trying to determine if I received a false checklist today. On the 18th I received a false one for sure since it was asking for all of the IV pAcket supporting documents (passport, pics, birth certificate, etc) and I had already sent al that in with the DS260. BUT today I got another checklist and it only has one thing listed which makes me wonder if its real, the thing that is listed is Eligibility Documents. It goes on to talk about Canadian passports and stuff you can use as proof. But we submitted my wifes passport with the supporting documents so I am at a loss here......

  11. Very bad news. Hoping for some advice. The NVC is emailing me in response to my AOS package submissions and stating that they are either encrypted or password protected. I have never put a password on any of my emails or attachments and I have emailed them to my wife and she can open everything just fine. I am at a complete loss of what to do. I could resent everything to them in an email but then in two weeks when they respond they are just going to say the same thing about not opening them. I have no idea what encryption is but I didnt do that either and again my wife can open the attachments.....

I think my only option is to opt out of EP and mail everything into them including our already EP submitted IV Packet.....

Im quoting myself haha. I spoke to a supervisor at NVC and he said my AOS packet that I sent on March 6th was received and processed and has been approved as of March 25th which is why I received "false" checklist for the DS260 on the 27th. So apparently AOS approval and IV False checklists are correlated (I wasnt told that but based on what he said I am assuming this). So my other AOS packet submissions after March 6th are apparently being rejected not because of encryption or password protection but because the AOS is completed (again he didnt say that but i am assuming).

  13. So up to this point you don't have a domicile issue becauae you live in the US but I don't know how this changes if you no longer have a US address. An address is needed by the time the green card is activated as it needs to be sent somewhere and you don't want to have to deal with it being lost in the mail.

I also hope you are prepared for questions at Canadian immigration. They won't be too happy if they find out you don't have a home in the US.

I think I got ahead of myself because I dont believe I need to prove domicile. I have a permanent US address and that is the intended address of the immigrant on the DS 260 so when the interview happens they will see the US address and that's that. Technically nothing is changing, I am just going on a 5 month vacation and then returning to California. I just wont be at that address during the interview.

Canadian immigration has never been an issue for me, they are always very friendly in my opinion, even friendlier than the american workers. They are more concerned if I am bringing a gift for my wife than anything and last time I went the girl stopped asking me questions mid sentence when she saw all of the Canada stamps in my passport pages haha.
