  1. Well I went to SSA. They said they *think* the problem lies with my name as at POE my first name was entered as Stefanie-Ann , as one long name, where as they are actually two separate names. My first name and middle name.

So she said it can take up to 3 weeks to change. I said, "Can I give you my verification number? It says on the email im supposed to give you this number". She looked at me blankly and said she didn't know what I was talking about. When I got back to my desk at work the HR lady said that I would need to go again as the SSA are supposed to take my I-9 verification number on my Further Action Notice.

    *sigh*

  2. Why you received this email

Your employer participates in E-Verify, a program managed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA). E-Verify compares the information you gave on Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, with records available to DHS and SSA to verify that you are authorized to work in the United States.

You received this email because E-Verify provided a result of DHS or SSA Tentative Nonconfirmation (TNC). A TNC means that the information entered into E-Verify by your employer does not match records available to DHS and SSA. A TNC does not necessarily mean that you gave incorrect information to your employer or that you are not authorized to work in the United States. Visitwww.dhs.gov/E-Verify and click on For Employees to learn about the reasons you may have received a TNC. Important information is also available in the E-VerifyEmployee Rights Toolkit.

    What you should do

If your employer has not spoken to you about the TNC, you should ask your employer for a copy of the Further Action Notice. Employers must promptly notify you in private of a TNC result and provide you with the Further Action Notice.

Employers must also allow you to contest (take action to resolve) a TNC and may not take adverse action against you because of the TNC while you are contesting the TNC and your E-Verify case is pending.

If you decide not to contest the TNC, your case will become a Final Nonconfirmation, which means that your employer may terminate your employment.

What is this? Does anyone know? Is there ever any escaping USCIS hell?

  3. So my fiance thinks he needs to replace his passport because it's not in good condition and I've read the London embassy is picky about that. He has a lot of stamps from travels in it and wants to know if that's going to cause a problem if its replaced. He will have to have to surrender his old one.

Also we both lived in Australia over a year, so he will need a police certificate. So would that mean that he has to use the old passport to get the police certificate, and then replace his passport.

Will any of this be a problem? And which one would be best to do first...police certificate or replace passport?

Thanks! This forum is amazingly helpful.

I actually failed my interview in London because the corner of my passport was dog-eared. Was just a bit tatty. I told my fiancé I was worried about it and he said itd be fine, and it wasnt

  4. ^^^This^^^

I drove on my UK licence for as long as I needed to. You know why? Because the local hick cops are clueless when it comes to anything that's not the norm. I was pulled over for speeding (72 in a 55) and when I told the guy I was newly arrived and still on my UK licence? He said, after a brief conflab over the radio with his station, and I quote, verbatim: "I got have your foreign address, passport and all that other sh!t, and it just ain't worth it. So I'm just gonna give you a stern warning and send you on your way."

Game, set, & match to non-stupid person. Bless you, Buford T Justice. You have a nice day.

  5. Thank you for the reply. We have decided to use Virgin Atlantic as we can use the "DIY route" since they do not require a pet transport agency. We found direct flights from London to Orlando. I still find the fees to be ludicrous for flying animals. Going to cost us more to fly the pup than to fly my fiance here. =p

AWESOME! I know its so ridiculous - its not like the pup gets a baggage allowance or food either!

  6. My fiance and I are trying to figure out how we can bring his 30lb English Cocker Spaniel with him when he enters the US. I've found a direct flight from Gatwick to Tampa with British Airways. Trouble is, when you look into flying a pet in the cargo with BA they insist that you use a pet export service. It's going to be expensive to use this service. Is there any way around this? I tried looking at Lufthansa flights but they don't fly direct to Florida.

Geeez pet export agencies are so freaking expensive. I was quoted a range from 700 pounds( sorry don't have pounds sign on US keyboard) to 2000 for a 5lb kitty!.

I went with Virgin Atlantic in the end who didn't require an agency and paid 300. Though it was a bit of a pain in the ####### with dropping her off and picking her up etc. (which usually the agency would take care of). Im not sure what to suggest as Tampa is a tricky one, don't think virgin fly there either

I have a pugalier and I can't find an airline that will fly a "snub nosed" dog as cargo d/t breathing issues. anyone have any ideas or experienced this before?

Yea I found that a lot of airlines I contacted wont fly pugs, Persian cats etc. any type of breed with a "snub nose", im not sure you will be able to overcome this problem as it affects their ability to breathe and airlines don't like that

  7. We had our interview yesterday! We were scheduled in at 9.20am at Detroit embassy. and we were VERY NERVOUS

We got there at 9am, met the receptionist at the door who immediately picked up that I was British (cue attempts at British accent and slang from said receptionist). I politely laughed and applauded him on his British accent before we went through to the main waiting area.

My husband and I start going through the HUGE binder that I had put together the night before, just to familiarize ourselves. I had collated loads and loads of pictures, loads of joint documentations, a copy of our AoS package, as well as details of our bills and leases etc. basically everything it told us to on the letter.

We were called in by a middle aged lady and taken to an office where we had to swear an oath before sitting down. She asked me for our passports and we sat down on chairs opposite her. She then asked me what MY parents' names were (was expecting her to ask me what my husbands parents names were) and then asked me for my husbands name. I hesitated a bit as the question seemed too simple!

    She then told me she was going to go through a list of generic questions, while she ticked off my answers on a piece of paper;

    "Are you a Nazi?"

    'Are you a spy?"

    "Are you a polygamist?"

"Do you or have you ever had any children held hostage or kidnapped"

etc. (I was used to these questions from the K1 application, my husband was a bit shocked lol)

Then she asked us about our wedding, just conversational very friendly and laughing We told her about the problems we had at my London interview which I told her was totally my fault for bringing the wrong bloody birth certificate! She said it sounded like a nightmare and she was sorry we had to go through all of that!

Then she asked me what my husband enjoys doing, I said umm he likes sports, playing xbox and eating out. She then asked Steve the same question, he said I enjoy reading and going to restaurants. Honestly I felt like our answers sounded kinda generic and lame.

She said" okay well your gold card will be in the mail within the next 10 days!"

I was kind of clutching my red binder that I had spent ohhh about 2 months compiling. She saw me look at it and said

"Oh did you want to show me anything else?" I said "Well I bought some joint docs in case you wanted to see them?". She said "....okay sure".

She didn't even glance at them, literally no interest in them at all.

Really that was that. We were out. We were in the interview for around 10 minutes....

    Kind of an anti-climax!

  9. Huh, I wonder why they gave me so many issues

UPDATE: I went back a week later, they said the check on my immigration status is STILL pending so they cannot issue me my permit WHAT THE HECK ranting33va.gif

This time the lady gives me a website to track the enquiry on and its www.uscis.gov/SAVE

    USCIS??????? ClockWatch2.gif

So as soon as me and Steve saw it was USCIS they were waiting for a response from we kind of gulped and wondered just how long we would be waiting for. As soon as I got home I checked my status, it said they have made a decision on whether I can have a permit and have notified the driving office. So I call the driving office, they say nope, still pending. I asked to speak to a manager who eventually agreed she would issue me a temporary one year limited license. *sigh*

  10. So I thought i would upload my story of how I went about doing my drivers permit test in Michigan (Americanism for the British Theory Test).

I studied my ####### off for it all day every day (have nothing else to do while waiting for my EAD!). I called the local office that the test takes place in, knowing that when I did my UK theory test theres a pretty long waiting list, and you have to make an appointment etc. the lady said "Nah just come in, make sure you have all your documents". Okay....

So I looked up online and found that I needed two letters with my name and Michigan address on, my marriage certificate, passport and Social Security number. I took my whole visa folder in the end. Once you have been in America for a couple of months, and try registering for doctors, dentists, SSN etc. you realize that nothing is ever straight forward as a non US citizen so just take everything.

Got there, and it was one massive noisy, typical government office looking room with a load of chairs and counters. We stood in the long queue and noticed one area of the waiting room called "Testing area'. My husband said, "gees, I guess that's where you take your test, hope its not too noisy". Im standing there a little dumb struck thinking I expected a private cubicle extra sanitary area like in the UK to take my test. We had been waiting in the queue for 10 mins or so and I had brought my notes for last minute revision. So I read through those a little.

When it was our turn the lady said "hmm are u adjusting your status?". My husband and I looked at eachother like here we go....gonna be another problem and another Can I talk to your supervisor kinda day. My husband said yes we are but we are still allowed to apply for a permit while AoS.

She said "okay ill let u take the test but we want to do some further background checks on your immigration status so youll need to come back in a couple of days to go ahead and collect your permit if you pass". Whatever.

So she handed me a very worn looking faded piece of paper and a pencil..... (I don't do it on a computer?) and told me just to go sit back next to my husband in the waiting room with my test sheet once its done. So I went to the "testing area" with all my stuff, Steve stopped me and said "maybe I should take your notes", I was like "Oh yeah..." the lady behind the counter didn't seem to care what was going on. I finished the test and went back to Steve and sat there kinda uncomfortably feeling like I was somehow breaking the rules or cheating. Steve could have easily adjusted my test sheet while we were sitting there.

I got called back up, she got a piece of paper out with the answers on and marked it in front of me! I stood there awkwardly watching until she says "Ok you passed, come back in a few days when we have your immigration information. NEXT!".........
