Hi Chelle37, we are in the same situation, could you please inform us here what you ended up doing? I see your local office is also Pittsburgh, did you have your I-551 stamp applied? OR new Green Card arrived before driving license expired? Thank you!

Hello...my husband ended up going back to the DMV 2 more times and the second time he convinced them to let him talk to a manager. The manager finally agreed that it was a mistake and they extended his license until the green card expiration date. So we were able to cancel the appointment and he never got an I-551 stamp. Then when he got his new green card a few weeks later he went back and got a new license. Hope this helps!

  2. Thank you all! That would be nice if the green card came soon, but I don't know if we can take the risk. We are going back to the DMV in the AM to see if they will at least extend the license until 9/30 which would be a year from when his last one expired - we think they made a mistake by only extending it to 8/4 in the first place. But if they refuse we have an InfoPass appt 2.5 hours away on 8/4 (the only appt available anywhere near us) to get an I-551 stamp in his passport (which i was not aware you could do - if i would have known we would have done that a long time ago), and then we will go straight to the DMV after that to renew the license that day! So frustrating but hopefully it works out. And yes, he can can use uber for his business trip if needed. Thanks again for the tips- I appreciate it!

  3. Hello everyone,

We are in need of some advice ASAP. My husband is a permanent resident, has been in the US since 2013 on a K-1 visa and applied for his I-751 (to extend his green card for 10 years) last August 2015. He received the Notice of Action on July 15, 2016 stating that his request for the removal of the conditional basis of permanent resident status has been approved and he will receive his new 10-year green card within 60 days. However, last year his driver's license was only allowed to be renewed until August 4, 2016 because of the pending status.

He went to the DMV today (we live in Pennsylvania). He was told he MAY NOT renew his driver's license until he receives his new green card. BUT his license will expire next Thursday!! The DMV worker told him he should just car pool to work until his green card comes. #######?! That is absolutely ridiculous - we have 2 cars for a reason because we are both busy and he is going to MN next week for a business trip in which he will need to rent a car!!! Has anyone been in this situation before and if so how did you handle it? We are desperate for some quick advice if anyone has it!!

    Thank you so much!

    Michelle

  4. Hey guys, I haven't been able to find this information and I'm sure someone will know right away...When you get your interview date can you buy your plane ticket on your own? Is there a port of entry specifically assigned to you or can you enter the US at any major airport and use that port of entry? My fiance's interview is May 16 and he just reserved a plane ticket for a week later...I wasn't sure if it mattered where he he is entering the US.

    Thanks so much!!

  5. tru_luvs_journey,

I tried this trick to track my package yesterday and I found one that left for Croatia on April 12. However today when I search the same exact thing nothing comes up! I tried changing the date range and everything but I can't find it now...The country is Croatia. Do you know anything else I can try or why it wouldn't be working now?

    Thanks for your helpful tips!

  6. Hello everyone! I noticed as well that there were hardly any Croatians applying for immigrant visas, at least on this website anyway. I am the American so I couldn't read the last half of this message board (shame on me, I better learn it before we have kids!). My fiancé is Croatian and we are towards the end of the process for the K-1 visa. Our NOA2 was on march 28, and I just found out yesterday our application has just left the NVC and is en route to Zagreb. I couldn't be happier!! I noticed there is not a lot of information about the Croatian embassy process on here... If anyone could help out with ANY advice at all it would be greatly appreciated! For example, how quickly does the process typically go from here on out? Do they assign an interview date? Is the interview relatively painless? I am reallllly hoping my fiancé will be in the US by Memorial Day weekend (may 24-27) because we have multiple family events going on and it would be perfect timing for him to get to know my family better. Any chance of this?

It is so great to see this forum specifically for people dealing with the Croatian embassy! I was reading earlier posts about Croatian weddings and cracking up, we are planning on having a reception in Zagreb in 2014 and I know my family and friends will die when they realize they will be staying up until 5 AM dancing and stuffing their faces:)

  7. You can imagine my surprise when I got the text message at 10:30 am saying we got approved!!! First of all I thought for sure we'd get an RFE because I didn't said any pictures of my passport stamps... Also I called VSC yesterday and they told me to call back in a month because they weren't processing anything beyond September 3!!!!

This is good hope for VSC for my fellow VSC filers/ October filers!!!:)

  8. October filer here as well - October 5! I called USCIS for the first time today and asked about the 5 month processing time listed on the website... I was told this is an estimate only and currently they are only processing cases filed September 3 and before.... Obviously I know isn't true since several people on this website are getting approved after that date! I told this to the immigration officer and his response was, "honestly I don't know." Great help, ha. All we can do is wait, I guess! I pray our time is coming soon, October!:)

  9. Quick question - so since Vermont service center's processing time now says 5 months, if you have been waiting longer than 5 months you are considered outside processing times and it is reasonable to call and ask to speak to a tier 2?

  10. Hello, all. Well, i felt really good about my evidence until I started reading these posts. I did not submit any of my passport pages...is this a given that I am pretty much guaranteed an RFE for forgetting? (Although I did not know this site existed when I applied and I don't remember reading the USCIS suggest that for evidence.) I sent copies of all my airline tickets, several pictures, emails, letters, train tickets, letters of intent, birth certificate, etc. I met my fiancé in college over 3 years ago and have pictures of us together at each of our graduations in front of a huge sign with the name of our school. We have multiple pictures in Croatia and the USA as well as two pictures of our engagement with the ring. I don't know how else I can prove we have met and are in a relationship! Should I basically be expecting to receive an RFE?

  11. No police certificates from the US. Only from other countries.

Phew. After posting this I did a search on here and found multiple posts about the same thing (oops) with the same reply. Thank you so much for replying. I'm so thankful this website exists - not only because of all the valuable information but because of the sense of community between all of us going through the same waiting game...!

  12. Hello!

I am currently waiting on a NOA-2 for a K-1 application. Our NOA-1 is October 5 at VSC - I'm hoping we will be approved soon!!! Therefore I'm trying to get prepared for the next steps after approval. I found this information on both the Department of State website and the Croatian Embassy website regarding required documentation prior to the interview -

•Police certificates from your present country of residence and all countries where you have lived for 6 months or more since age 16 (Police certificates are also required for accompanying children age 16 or older)

My fiance is a resident of Croatia but lived in the US for 6 years total (1 year of high school and 5 years of college) on a student visa. Does this mean he needs to get a police certificate from the US? If so, where should I obtain this/who do I contact?

Sorry if this topic has been covered/answered - there is so much fruitful information on here that it gets hard to keep track! :)
