  1. Hi Everyone,

We are moving along in our visa journey! On October 10th our case was updated and we received an interview date for our AOS interview. We got a text and email confirming. Today we got a text and email that our case was updated. It has at both times said we were in testing and interview, but now the email we got today said the same message, yet without our interview date.

"Your I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS is now ready for interview scheduling. When scheduling is complete, you will receive a notice with a time and place for your interview. If you have not received the notice within 30 days of the date the notice is mailed, please call customer service at 1-800-375-5283 for further assistance. Please check our website at www.uscis.gov for further updates on your case. If you move, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address."

That is what our email said that we got today, yet the one we got on the 10th said our interview date, along with the same information.

"On October 10, 2014, we mailed you an appointment notice for an interview for November 19, 2014. Please follow the instructions on the notice. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or call our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283."

What does this mean???? Could it possibly just mean we got a case touch?? What other kind of development in our case could this mean??

    Thank You! :)

  2. Hi everyone

we have looked over the example forms, but we are still confused.

It says on the form I-131 to skip to part 7 after filling out part 3, but it seems there are two questions that are not answered on the example form that seem important (and are STILL included in part 3)

    That is Question 4a:

Have you ever before been issued a reentry permit or Refugee Travel Document? (If "Yes" give the following information for the last document issued to you)

    and Question 5:

Where do you want this travel document sent? (check one).

    5. To the U.S. address shown in Part 1 (2.a through 2.i.) of this form.

These questions are still part of PART 3, but they are not checked in the example forms. Should we fill in/check these boxes?

    Thank You!

    • My husband is planning on bringing one suitcase filled with clothes and a backpack (carry on) with important documents and his computer (which he bought here in the US while visiting and took with him to Brazil.)

Our kitties are already here in the US since they live with me and are eagerly awaiting "papai". (Sofia Isabella passed away on Feb 27th.. she was his favorite :( and will travel with him to the US in spirit. )

Aw, we are sorry to hear about your cat. I'm sure our cat will just think it's a normal day, until her daddy comes in the door and then she will have a nice surprise!

Agreed with the rest, only advise your fiancee to bring stuff that he will have a hard time getting here. I have only brought 4 big luggages and a handbag, of mostly clothes that I bought in the past 2 years, personal electronic devices and important legal documents, and some dried mangoes ;). I have donated most of my clothes and other reusable stuff to family and friends.

Always remember that material things are always replaceable. Safe travels to your fiance! :)

    Thank you!

  3. The important thing is to bring the college/school transcript with its translation to be used for applying a job here once the work permit/green card received.

Great! Yes, we are mostly concerned with the paperwork and items we really NEED, like documents and such.

The reason we are asking is because he wants to travel with as least as possible. Items are replaceable, and he's already got some clothing here from previous trips.

Also, the 10 pound baggage restriction of checked luggage is weighing us down....pun intended

  4. I am the beneficiary. When my then-fiancé ( my now husband) came to my interview and brought me back to the US, I had 5 large boxes, 3 big suitcases, and small one. Most of those were clothing, books, some of my personal items that I am afraid can't find in the US. Also, sweet soy sauce and some of Indonesian snacks, my iPad, my laptop, and a big picture frame, the gift from my co-workers. The most difficult part was bring my 2 cats because Indonesian government is very strict about quarantine.

I'm glad you could bring your cats! Our cat lives with me so no long distance travels for her! :)

  5. Hello Everyone,

My fiancé will be entering Detroit, Michigan using his K1 on May 17th. He previously had a B2 visa in his passport. We were wondering if the B2 should have been voided by the CO when he was issued the K1? Would there be a stamp or 'VOID' stamp on the B2, or may it have been voided internally, and how will the CO in Detroit know the B2 is voided and not being used when he does POE? Please help! We only have 3 weeks till he travels. Thank You all so much in advance.

  6. Yes, that is correct. If the CBP officer asks you how you know your friend, then I would suggest to say something like this: we've met on international tourism chat through a mutual friend. That will show the officer your interest in American culture itself, and not just a person who might be your potential future husband ;)

She may not have met him through a mutual friend, or even on an 'international tourism chat'......

TELL THE TRUTH, plain and simple.

And bring plenty of proof of ties to your home country (that you are willing to do this process the legal way)

  7. Hey :)

I would probably get married ASAP then move to Cali. and file the papers from there. Do you have a place lined up to stay in Cali or are you still house hunting? The more you have set in stone I think the easier it would be to do the AOS after you move. You can get married anywhere, and I think it would be best to be set in where you are staying for a long time, while filing AOS.

Glad to have met you two through this journey. 8 more weeks :) take care and good luck.

    Best,

    Crys and Gus

  8. Hi all,

Our petition has been approved recently now we are waiting for our case to be transfer to NVC, I would like a please a request or an advice on this forum which is mention below:

My Fiancé, she is a self employed and she in the Real Estate business and in the year of 2013 due to the severe surgery she was not able to keep up with her cash flow during the period as she was completely bed rest. Now we are wondering that if she will file the Tax Return ( 1040 ) that will might be below the Poverty Guide Line set by HHS that is 125 %, we are kind of stuck here and we can’t introduce any co – sponsor in our case to certified our affidavit of support. Whereas as per her last year tax return 2012 we have no issue with the HSS guideline.

Hence we are kind of looking for advice or suggestion on that, is there any other proof we can submit to support her stability of the income keeping her nature of employment in mind or should we can go with extension of time to file U.S. Individual Income Tax Return ( Form 4868) ??

    Please help.

Please don't hijack someone else's thread. Make your own, it takes away from the OP question.

  9. We did just a few sentences on an attached form....of that we met online in 2005. We met in 2011 in (LOCATION) and stayed together ____months. we met in 2012 in (LOCATION) and we stayed together ____ months, and we met in 2013 in (LOCATION) and stayed together ___ months. We also briefly explained that we met each others families, and locations we visited while we were together. Every case is different depending on country and your specific case. For some a few sentences is the right amount, for others they feel a page is fine. The most important thing is telling about your meeting FACE to FACE within the past 2 years. Hope this helps! Good Luck. :)

  10. Thank You everyone! It has been a great Journey so far.

    Jeff,

My fiancé wanted to spend the least days in Rio since he had to pay for hotel and such...he lives in Fortaleza. He flew to Rio on the Sunday before the interview. We could only set up the medical exam on the Tuesday before the interview. His interview was on the Thursday. You can do everything in one day, if you want to cut down on costs...(even advice given by the doctor) It took 2 weeks+1 day to have our update to ISSUED. He knew at the time of interview that we were APPROVED, pending the results of the medical exam, so we knew that's all we had to wait for. Hope this helps :) anymore questions just ask.

Good luck to everyone else still in the process of waiting.

  11. WOOHOO! After tracking our CEAC updates for 2 weeks since interview, our status changed to ISSUED today! We were waiting for my fiancés medical to get to the consulate. Only a bit less than 5 months from sending our package to USCIS, and we now have the visa ISSUED!!!!! (We were just expecting NOA2 now based on averages!!) After waiting 8 years and fighting for each other so hard and living for each other every day, we MADE IT! This site has helped us so much!!!!!! WEE :)

  12. They only reschedule for a really really good reason. We thought they'd reschedule our interview for tax purposes, but they didn't. also, the petition expires within a timeframe, I think like 2 months after Noa2, and they have the power to push that date back to reschedule, but like I said, it seems like it has to be a very good reason to reschedule. Hope that helps a bit. We emailed the consulate, they were very nice but didn't budge on pushing our date back. Since then we had our interview and were approved :)

  13. I'm no immigration expert. All my advice is based on personal experience and search over the last few months. The k-1 is obviously there for a reason. While AOS are within the scope of the law, those cases are approached with a skeptical eye by the USCIS adjudicators. Its up to you to decide whether its worth risking your relationship over AOS. My fiancé and I could have gotten married in the US but we just wouldn't take the chances of running into trouble at AOS. The k-1 takes longer, and it requires a lot of documentation, but in the end its the best path for fiancés. I know ALL cases are different, and I'm not sure about this one, but I would not advise anyone to come here with a pre meditated plan of marriage.
