  1. Yes, Mom still resides in Canada and will be doing her interview etc. in Montreal. I’m relieved to know she is in the clear, having Canadian citizenship. After hearing the news about the “freeze” in all of those countries had me amazed bit worried.
  2. Thanks! I was getting concerned because I already submitted her I-130 petition and got wind of what was happening with the freeze after the fact.
  3. Hey Visa Journey! I’m in the process of filing for my mom to get her Green Card, who is Jamaican born but holds Canadian citizenship. For the initial I-130 petition filed I included all of her Canadian Passport information on the forms. With the recent “ freeze”being placed on 75 countries, Jamaica being on that list is she still eligible and in the clear to apply for her Green Cardbas a Canadian although she wasn’t born in Canada? Much thanks!!
  4. Hey Visa Journey!! So, long story short I’m a U.S citizen and my mom from Canada would like me to file for to get her Green Card. Now my question is she is already here in the U.S on an extended trip for a few months. Could we do the (I-130) petition and AOS forms here so she doesn’t have to go back? Or would it be best for her to return to Canada and wait to be interviewed at the consulate in Canada? From research I’ve seen the process is faster when filing for parents who are already in the USA. Answers are much appreciated!!
  5. From what it says in the link you attached, the grounds for humanitarian- reinstatement would guaranteed be denied if the petitioner died while the petition was pending. My dad’s father was alive for years after the petition was approved. My dad is now at the point where he would have to pay the fees to NVC to proceed.
  6. My grandfather petitioned my dad under the F-1 visa category which was approved a few years ago but my dad notified NVC he wasn’t ready to immigrate at the time. He has had the go to proceed with the next steps. Now my grandfather has passed away he would like to move forward with the process. His case is still opened and valid but with the death of his father he would like to know how to proceed going forward. The petition was approved way before his fathers death, he is now at the stage where he has to pay the NVC fees.
  7. Hey Visa Journey! My grandfather who was a USC passed away a few months ago and filed an I-130 petition for my father 7 years ago. My father is now ready to book his interview at the U.S consulate in Montreal and would like to use me as an affidavit of support for his case. My question is do we proceed like normal and submit form I-864(affidavit of support) and explain to them at the consulate my grandfather has passed away? Or does this need to be addressed before hand? In other words, what is protocol in this type of situation? answers would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks!!
