  1. What you should be looking at is you have your Advance Parole card showing you are no longer an exiting immigrant, thus not needing a sticker.

You will not get a sticker without a certificate from attending the seminar, so if you need the sticker you will need to plan to attend the seminar.

I don't have an easy answer, with the green card it is very clear, with the EAD/AP combo card I don't know of anyone traveling to and from the Phils and how immigration/customs reacted when checking through. One though is asking customs as you enter, explain you don't have your CFO sticker in that passport and if having your AP (show it to them) will be adequate for exiting when traveling back to the USA.

Thank you Hank, I will remember to ask them that question and if I have to attend the cfo seminar, I guess I can not do anything about it..

Thank you again for the nice advice...

  2. 1) carry a copy of your marriage certificate in case there are questions about name variances. Ticket needs to match the passport.

    2) You did not attend CFO before you flew to the USA? Did you process in another country besides the Philippines?

You many not need CFO if you show the AP/EAD combo card as that is proof you are not an exiting immigrant (CFO is only for exiting immigrants), not absolutely sure on this, I know once having the green card it is no issue.

    ROM takes almost a month.

    1. I will carry a copy of my marriage certificate and anything that will help with my cfo .

    2. I processes my papers in Canada so hopefully I wont have to attend the seminar and will just get the cfo sticker..

Thank you Hanks.. The process is just so overwhelming and tiring.. BUt hopefully my papers is enough for them..

  3. My AOS is pending now and have my combo card but no GC. I am going to the Phils to get my daughter 2 weeks from now.

Also, I have not registered/reported my marriage in Phil embassy because I planned to do that when I am going to renew my passport. I do not mind getting the certificate or attending the seminar. My problem is I do not think I have enough time to get a copy and register/report my marriage and get an authenticated copy from them since it is a requirement in attending the cfo if married abroad. All I am holding is my US marriage certificate. I need a clarification for this please.. thank you very much..

My passport is in my maiden name, my combo card is on my married name.

  4. We just started going through the same thing.

We are in Ohio, so it may be a little different for you.

Contact the Probate court for your area and ask them or they probably have the info online too.

You don't need anything from the father. The law already gives you custody.

It is fairly hard to do it yourself, at least in Ohio. So we have contacted some lawyers and checked the fees. Good God - it's very expensive to do something as good-hearted as adoption.

We are thinking of just doing a name change, at least for the time being. That way our son has the same last name as us and that is what is important to him right now.

    Good luck.

    Thank you for the reply,

Can you please share some of your experiences to us so that we may also know what to do..

I have read a story here that they went through adoption without getting a lawyer.

We are also thinking of the name change for my daughter , we wanted her to use the same last name as us.

  5. we are in the process of K2 for my daughter and my USC husband will adopt her after my minor daughter AOS.The case is:

    1. In her birth certificate, the biological father acknowledged her.

    2. Me and the biological father are not married

    3. My daughter have not seen his father and doesn't know his father because he never see/visit her.

( in Philippine law, I have the full custody for my daughter since we are not married.)

    4. We also wanted to just do the adoption ourselves cos hiring an attorney will be cost us way more..

    5. Where do we have to start first or what to do first?

    6. Do I have to ask her father to give up his right, (I do not know where he is right now.).. All I know is that he is already a married man.

Has someone in the same situation?

    Thank you very much.

  6. Our co sponsor has some good questions regarding their liability on the I-864.

    1. If I (sponsor) should die or become unable to support my wife, will the co sponsor be responsible to support my wife and child?

    2. If I adopt my step daughter does she become a U.S. citizen immediately and does that status relieve them of possible law suits?

    3. When my wife becomes a citizen are they no longer liable for her?

  7. Mike & Gina here in CEBU riding the storm out. High winds but not much rain here. I'm NOT impressed!! I've been through stronger winds during tornados in Ohio. The storm path apparently went further north and missed here in CEBU more, as earlier they said the "eye" would pass over Cebu. I've been here since October 15th.....got shook by earthquake within 7 hours here, been sick for 2 weeks thanks to the Cebu germs, smog, and pollution.....messed up my interview application date page with Embassy, fell off my bike and broke my left thumb, and now typhoon which has us no TV, and no electric. Gosh, I love Cebu, The Philippines, and especially my honey Gina!!

LOL! Now that is quite an experience.. enjoy! wahahaha!

Prayers to my friends and families out there.. Be safe!

  8. Where r u from...me I am from west coast and my fiance is in Saskatchewan so having to travel to Montreal is quite a hardship and twice to three times as expensive as going to Vancouver. Then i read you need to do medical at least a week in advance in Montreal due to the slow process of getting your medical results back. (Takes minimum 3 days i read). So having to spend about 7-10 days in Montreal vs 3 in Vancouver is going to be hard. Not to mention its can be a much longer wait for an interview which is sad. Oh well what can i do now...gotta wait and see. I emailed and faxed a copy of her work visa that is good til May 2015 to Vancouver so maybe they will change their minds. Fingers crossed.

My fiancé (USC) is from the East Coast and I am in Ontario. Scheduled my interview Aug and got a slot this November so yeah it is a long wait here in Montreal. Regarding medical, yup, have to wait three days to get the result so I will be spending 8 nights there in Montreal which is expensive. well, just get your fingers crossed. Since your fiancée is in Saskachewan your case ill be in Vancouver. :) Hope everything will go well..

  9. I JUST CHECKED MY STATUS ON THE CEAC WEBSITE AND IT SAYS THAT I HAVE TO GO THROUGH MONTREAL, CANADA. MY CASE NUMBER IS ASSIGNED TO VANCOUVER, MY FIANCE AND ME LIVE ON THIS SIDE OF THE COUNTRY, WEST COAST U.S. AND SASKATCHEWAN. WHEN I EMAILED VANCOUVER THEY SAID THEY DO NOT PROCESS FOREIGN WORKERS APPS UNLESS SHE HAS AT LEAST A YEAR ON HER WORK VISA. WHICH SHE DOES, AND WE SUBMITTED A COPY OF THAT WHEN WE ORIGINALLY APPLIED. I AM TRYING TO CONTACT SOMEONE TO FIGURE THIS OUT. END RESULT IS WHAT IS IMPORTANT, HOWEVER, HAVING TO GO ALL THE WAY TO THE EAST COAST FOR AN INTERVIEW IS A MAJOR MONKEY WRENCH IN PLANS. ANY OTHER FOREIGN WORKERS IN CANADA OR CITIZENS THAT MAY KNOW WHATS GOING ON??

I am also a worker here in Canada. Our case was transferred to Montreal fron NVC July and my visa and work permit will only be until this Dec31 but I do not have any problem with it regarding my processing in Montreal. I already have my interview this Nov so I am really hoping I can have my visa before my permit and visa expires here in Canada..

  10. I have never do this either,I would believe you get the power of attorney drawn up by an lawyer then you take it to the Philippine consulate so that they can "validate it" ... There is probably better information on the DFA website.

Thank you so much Hank.. I will do that.. :)

  11. I believe once you have your green card they don't look for the CFO sticker in the passport, being you are no longer immigrating.

Thank you Hank. Another question, do you have any idea on how to get power of attorney.

I mean, here in Canada do I have to go to an attorney and make the document and then have it authenticated at the Philippine Consulate here? Or I will just go to Philippine Consulate and tell them I need power of attorney. Sorry for having lots of questions.. I do not have any idea about this and never have done this before and maybe some of the VJers who have the same experience can share and give me advice. Thank you very much..

  12. Thank you Hank,

Do I also have to register? I was kinda concern because I will be getting my daughter next year in the Philippines. Will they still look for my sticker?

I will go straight to US from Canada and will just get my daughter next year after getting her k2.

  13. My daughter is 6 years old. She is a follow to join. Can you please give me advise about her CFO. I wont be there when she process her papers, only my mom will accompany her. I will only be picking her up once her k2 is issued.

Can I just register her online? Also, I was kinda confused do I still have to get my CFO now that I am here in Canada and will fly straight to US?

    follow-up.

I am a Filipina presently working/residing in Canada. My daughter is in the Philippines.. Thank you..

  15. I am a confused about DS-260 replacing the DS-230, is this also the case in MOntreal for K1?

My interview will be this November but I already sent them my DS-230. I have emailed my inquiry to Montreal Embassy and it is taking them forever to answer my email, also emailed NVC and no answer yet. I have also tried calling NVC but oh dear I was on hold for almost an hour and no rep to answer me yet.

I just want to make sure that I have filled all the necessary forms for my interview so as not to cause any more delays which will add more to my frustrations.

  16. I sent my police clearance application in Hong Kong with Canada expresspost.

Now the tracking status states that it is on hold for verification of recipients address.

I wrote the address exactly what is written on the HKPolice website.

    Has anyone experienced this?

Also was kinda thinking maybe its because it is weekends there.

Any advice please. I was a little panicky because Hong Kong has one month police clearance process and hope there will be any delays and hope the letter wont be sent back to me.

  17. Me and my fiance want to file for the k-1 visa. I will be the petitioner. We have been doing a lot of research but i want to make sure I have all the right stuff before I actually send out the 129f petition.

    g325fa(fiance)
