  1. Why are they doing this? Who knows... maybe they are planning on "protecting" Russian speakers in other countries (they've been doing a lot of that in different places lately). Maybe they will create some more "interesting" laws in future, related to taxation of people, who have another citizenship or a resident card, or related to our property in Russia. Whatever this is, I don't expect any positive changes.

However, I have some information that might help your wife. It's all in Russian, and I don't feel like translating, but you can have her read this:

Wow, thank you for all you've shared. This confirmed the fact that this form is not in force until Aug 17th, so that explains a lot. Just crazy how they can say it is effective Aug. 4th, and the 60 days to register begins from that date...even if the form isn't in force...till the 17th...a loss of 2 weeks shot. I certainly will pass all this on to her....Thanks soooooooooooooo much:))))))))

  2. What I have read is that it applies to Russians who have kept their registration in Russia. So if you keep an apartment there where your citizen spouse is registered, or if they're registered at their parents' apartment, it counts as "living in Russia." No one really knows exactly what to do, though, and who needs to do it. But if your wife doesn't figure it out over there in time, I think she should be able to do it through the consulate in the US.

From all that I have read, you cannot do this at the consulate in the US. It must be done in the regional offices there in Russia, in person, however they do allow you to mail this in to them...but then...they do not send you any confirmation of receiving it, so you can still easily be listed as a "criminal"...especially if it gets lost in the mail. I am now told, that the immigration offices there have these forms....BUT...get this.... they do not have a law that tells them they can give this form to the public yet, so my wife is now told to come back on the 17th...which is a Sunday...haha..they are closed, so she will try again on the 18th. Even if you went down with a printed out form, they will not take it, so you cannot submit it yet. My wife asks...maybe they need a law to use the toilet:)))) She is very very upset with this whole mess, and frankly I don't see how she can endure anymore BS from the government. My question is, why are the really doing this in the first place?????

Yes, I agree, with your comment. My wife is registered there, and maintains an apartment there as well. Her local offices tell her to return around the 17th to apply, and her flight back here is on the 20th...so this form is like a jump start for her. What is really bad, is they are given 60 days to do this, (from the 4th of August), yet with many regional offices are not ready to process this, the clock keeps ticking away, and the deadline doesn't change!

  4. Thank you, but we used the same name on her passport. They simply try to say we must file AOS first which I know they are wrong, so we will try the other office nearby and if we run into an issue, I will ask for a supervisor!:)

They may have refused to get ssn in married name, which is different to the name on i-94 i.e at the moment you have no valid proof of legal stay in us in your married name therefore can't have ssn in married name. Try and get ssn in maiden name and then change it after receiving ead.

Thank you, I agree they were in error, and will try the other SS office nearby this week, and will talk to their supervisor if there is anymore issues.

A K-1 is entitled to a social security number whether or not they have gotten married or filed for adjustment provided that there are at least 14 days of validity left on their I-94. Your timeline indicates that this is the case, so the SSA employee was in error. You should go back and ask to speak to a supervisor / someone who knows what they are talking about. I do not believe this applies to a K-2, and they require either an EAD or a green card in order to obtain theirs.

The filing fees will be $1,070 for your wife and $1,070 for a minor child if they are 14 or over, or $635 if 13 or younger and you are filing the two AoS' together.

  5. Hello everyone,

Now that we are happily married at last, my wife and I tried to go to our social security office to apply for their cards, and now they say we need to file the AOS first!!!!! This is so confusing....even with having our certified copy of marriage. So I began to prepare the AOS filing the I-485 for her and her son, and want to verify the fees if anyone can help. I am seeing a total of 985 for hers, 635 for her sons', then 85 each for biometrics...is this correct? Total: $1875.00 OMG thats more than we imagined!!!!! We want to hurry and get this started, and would greatly appreciate any help or advice:)

    Thank you all

  6. I just got word from my fiance' she was approved at her interview, and she was very impressed how smoothly everything went. Tonight has been the most nerve racking experience I've ever known,,,but after hearing she was approved...there is no way to explain the enormous utopia after such a long long journey. Praising God in every way. Soon I will try to post more details of her interview, but I would love to take a moment and give a special thanks to all the VJ'ers out there who have really helped more than you can ever imagine, and that support was from day one all the way through...and a very special thanks to STEVE and NATASHA!

  7. When my fiancée scheduled her interview appointment she cod not add her son because his passport had not been issued. She will get it on Monday and would like to add him using the usatraveldocs website. However there does not appear to be a way to do this I called the help line and they said that she'd need to cancel and reschedule. This is a problem as the Moscow embassy has no open appointment times (plus we don't what to slide things any further if we can help it). Is there any way to modify the existing reservation?

Like yourself, my fiance is waiting for a renewed passport....and I wondered how she adds her son on the website...ustraveldocs. I am assuming she just fills in everything for herself, then resubmits for her son...not sure, but if you find out, I'd sure like to know.

Thanks in advance, and good luck

  8. Ok, thanks! I guess we are both a little stressed, I have been going through the VJ Guide for the K1 and have everything they are asking, she was just reading some other things saying we needed additional information so I figured I would ask to see what people said.

Does anyone know at what point she will need to have her birth certificate and if this will need to be professionally translated?

I truly relate to the stress....our petition just arrived in Moscow, and we are really stressing...last leg, and wishing we were already together:) If you read ahead, you can see certain documents will benefit in the long run having them professionally translated anyway...especially once she arrives to you to get married. So we had birth certificate, and divorce/death certificates translated, along with her police certificate...so copies of these along with your petition now isn't a bad idea....because they are required at the interview anyway. It never hurts to be safe to avoid time delays and getting a RFE...so I recommend go the extra mile, and you'll have them when you both go to get married.

Hope this helps....I know some documents they say aren't required professionally, and can be translated by anyone who can verify it's accuracy, but again...the main documents like the birth certificate...you should get it done professionally and we even had it certified to cover us in the future.

    GOOOOOOOOOD LUCK

  9. Hi all,

We are finishing up your I-129F packet for our K1 visa! I am hoping to get this mailed off today but had some last minuet questions, sorry if these seem a little trivial but I just don't want to have any delays in this process... Details to know is I am the US citizen and she is Russian living and working in Moscow.

Payment - From looking at the UCIS website it looks like the current application fee is $340. Are there any other fees that I need to include at this time? I am planning on mailing a check, I am assuming that I make this out to the UCIS...

Pasport photo - So my Fiancee was reading on another site that in this first packet the passport photos need to be on glossy paper... hers is on very matte paper and mine is simi matte or standard stuff you get from printing out your photos. Is this really an issue? I want to think it is not but she is worried so I thought I would ask.

Birth Certificate - So I see here that I need to include my birth certificate to establish my US citizenship. As I understand it she would need to provide her birth certificate translated and copy of her Russian passport at a later date however she is reading somewhere else that this needs to be included now in the first packet. From reading here I never saw this included in the packet.

Amount of Evidence - There seams to be lots of question about just how much evidence to provide to establish a true relationship and also prove having met in the last two years. My Fiancee and I have known each other for over three years and have written many letters and have 16 pages of call logs from the phone company alone. We wanted to include personal letters and emails to each other spanning over the last few years. The thing is even after trying to pick the best letters and emails we are still looking at having around 60 pages of letters. Would this just be annoying to the people processing these documents or is this considered a good thing to have such correspondence over the last three years?

Any help with these details would be great! Thanks for the support and we will be posting our VJ timeline soon!

If you look on the I-129F form, page 4, it tells you to make the check out to U.S. Department of Homeland Security. If you look at the VJ Guides tab, it gives you a very good description of all the things you need. I think it will help you in insuring all you need, is up to par...

  10. Does anyone registering at ustraveldocs have a child to add. I am curious beforehand, how we add her child on this site, to be included on our K-1 visa so we can pay the fee for both. Do we have to set up a whole new profile for her son or what?

    Thanks so much

  11. Go to the site you have listed.

Go to Login - this will take you to this site: https://cgifederal.secure.force.com

Set up your new user account using your email address and password.

That should take you to My Dashboard - It should give you a list of Visa Information, Visa Fee's, Family Details, Appointment Conformation, Document Delivery Information.

Go to Update Profile and add your fiancee's information in there. Her information, not yours. You can however use your email address if you wish to receive the information at home.

Next find the Visa Information and add the visa type. In your case it's a K1. It should take you to the next step in setting up your interview. It will ask you where you want the visa delivered to so add her address.

Next page will ask for your receipt number so add that number. ( you might have to wait here until the Embassy receives the payment. When it does it will in show up on the first page under Visa Fees) When you sign in and under the Visa Fee's section it shows a payment is received you can them move forward to set the interview. Please understand these pages are progressive, in other words when you finish one it will take you to the next page until you are done.

When you set the interview it will ask you to print the conformation. So make three copies and they will have the bar code on them that you need to get into the Embassy.

It will also send a copy to the email address you give them.

I'm not sure about adding children if she has them. But it should still walk you through the process. Hope this helps?

Does the fiance fill out all the other information under the tab...non-immigrant visa application?...like where it says apply and pay? etc...?

  12. I tried to register my fiancee at: https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/?language=English&country=Russia because she kept getting error messages, and I also had the same problem she was having...so I changed her e-mail to mine, and kept the rest the same, and what do you know, it went through..HOWEVER now the profile shows my name, where it should show hers. I was going to edit it first, but thought I better post on here first. Anybody else out there with the same issue?

    Thanks

So does anyone know how to fix this? I also would like to know being this is for a K-1 and K-2 visa...on ustraveldocs..is this considered a non-immigrant or immigrant visa? Maybe I am just too excited and can't think clearly LOl

  14. Our petition should arrive in Moscow in the next few days, meanwhile my fiancee tried to register at the link you mentioned, and after going to new user, and entering everything, and submitting, she kept getting the message: Your request cannot be processed at this time. The site administrator has been alerted. So I tried on this end, and get the same message:( I tried using space between the captia words, and without space, and still get the same message. I tried firefox, and regular internet explorer and the same problem. Could it be that they simply don't have her in their system yet, and she is unable to register until then? ANY ideas would be appreciated

  15. Congrats...soooo happy for you both. I considered the same, being there with her for her interview (not scheduled yet...still at NVC) but is looks so complicated trying to go there to visit. I do have a passport, but have not applied for a visitor visa yet...but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated:) Just to get medical insurance to cover a visit there seems to be required...but not sure.

Well just 4 weeks from now on the 18th of July she will have her interview. Finally! I will fly there to meet her and go with her to the interview as they want the petitioner there as well if they can be. You bet I want to be there!smile.png) Got a couple more things to get before that time but they should be here. Her police report and some passport photos and her medical appointment as well. Enough to keep us busy until that time.

  16. I just called them today and received my case number. You should try to call them again to find out. My NOA2 was issued on 05/31/13.

I tried again today and still not in their system yet, so I will try again Monday. At least this call, I didn't have to wait 20minutes:) to speak with someone!:) My date was June 3rd, 3 days different than yours, so I am really hopeful Monday will be the BIG day:)
