  1. There are a TON of Filipinas in Phoenix, we were visiting with a bunch over the weekend when up there for a b-party, and I am sure there are a fair number that speak Bisaya.

I would suggest checking out any of the Asian markets there.

The Philippine consulate does their outreach program at Halo-Halo Kitchen over on Dunlap Ave.

Welcome!! Remember... its a DRY HEAT! laughing.gif

supposed to be around 110-112 today. whew!

well, at least it's dry heat like you said! laughing.gif

to the OP, lots of filipino/filipinas in the metro phx area. check out the resto that Hank suggested, you and your wife will sure meet people over there. also, if she happens to be catholic, there's a filipino mass every sunday at 5 pm over at Our Lady of the Valley Parish Church. It's located at Greenway Rd and 32nd/33rd Avenue as i recall. it's near i-17.

    welcome!

  2. you need to find an employer that's willing to petition him for at least a H1-B visa, but i think the quota for this year has already been reached.

yup, foreign students pay more than students who are citizens or permanent residents.

  3. Sorry maybe you missed my last post-I got a message when I checked my status online, a few hours ago stating that On April 15, 2013 they approved it and I will be my Green Card in 30 days. Thanks for your posts, they helped.

yeah i missed that. anyways, congrats!!!

  4. do you already have an approved I-140? if so, you can see what your priority date on the approval notice for the I-140. also, under what category was your permanent residence application filed? it ranges from EB-1 to EB-5. common categories for H1-B holders petitioned for permanent residency are usually under EB-2 or EB-3.

i'm assuming you're from Uganda based on your profile, so you belong in the rest of the world (ROW) category. for this month's visa bulletin, they're up-to-date as far as EB-2 goes, because it's current ©, whereas for EB-3 they're processing priority dates up to July 01, 2007. so it basically boils down to what EB category your petition was filed. if it was under EB-2, then your case/petition can be adjudicated and approved anytime whereas if you're under EB-3, it'll be around a 5-6 year wait before your priority date becomes current depending on how fast or slow the dates move.

    hope this helps.

  5. Okay, so am confused, where do I check my I-485 approval? I thought one checks this online-case status, so that is what I was saying here, it doesn't say anywhere "approved", this is what it states "On January 18, 2013, your fingerprint fee was accepted and we have mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. Your case is being processed at our TEXAS SERVICE CENTER location. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you..." Or is there another place where people check approvals? I don't see any other date anywhere other than Jan 18...or what does priority date mean? I am new in all these and I don't understand some things. And I already did the finger prints, got my Advanced Parole card.

your I-485 hasn't been approved yet, if it were then you would already have your permanent residence card. did you file both your I-140 and I-485 at the same time, or did you file your I-485 after your I-140 has been approved. either way, your permanent residency approval will depend on your priority date. your priority date is the date when the U.S. Department of Labor received your application for labor certification or PERM. i'm asumming that your I-485 is still pending that is why you got your Employment Authorization Document (EAD) as well as your Advanced (Travel) Parole (AP).

to check how long you would have to wait before your I-485 application is adjudicated, you need to know what your priority date is, and look at the different dates on the different Employment-Based categories on the monthly visa bulletin that the state department issues.

i've tried my best to explain this to the best of my knowledge. goodluck.

  6. Thank you. I checked the my i-485 service center to see if anything has changed. The last time I checked it stated 4 months, when I checked today it stated "Aug 28, 2012", I guess that means they are working on applications that were received that date, so that means it is going to be a couple of months before they get to those that included mine, it was received Jan 18, 2013, some more waiting.

check your I-140 approval. it should say there your priority date. the dates that they post on the service centers don't tend to be accurate, it's best to base it on the visa bulletin that the state department issues every month.

    hope this helps.

  7. Hello,

Has someone here already got their Green Card on H1B Visa (through employer)? I am wondering how long it took you to get your GC. I did my finger prints mid-february and got my Advanced Parole Card around first week of March, so how long can I wait for the Green Card? Every time I check my case status online (I-485)it is still at the "Acceptance" stage yet it was submitted January 18. I am just desperate to have an idea, can I expect to get my GC sometime this summer or there is more waiting to do? Thanks.

what is your priority date and employment-based category? once you have that in hand, you can check the visa bulletin on the state department's website: http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html

that would give you an idea on how soon/long you might need to wait.

    hope this helps.

  8. OP, you would need to apply a tourist visa and will be approved based on your own merits.

you can get married while on a tourist visa as long as you don't adjust status. you would need to go back to your home country/place of residence before your authorized stay is up.

  9. Hello guys. I have been admitted! I've got a B1/B2 visa, but, unfortunately only for 6 months:(. They told me that I cannot get it directly for 10 years, as I have to take it firstly for 6 months, then for 3 years, then for 5 , and just then for 10 years. But anyhow, I am happy I received it, even though Im not quite sure I am going to use it ! Thank you to you all for your support !:)

    congratulations!

it is likely due to your circumstances why the VO gave you only a 6 month B1/B2 visa. as long as you don't abuse the one you have right now, it'll increase your chances of getting a much more longer one when you reapply.

  10. first off, has her employer already filed the labor certification for the job? after that gets approved, the employer needs to file the I-140. after that gets approved, the filing of the I-485 will depend on what her EB category is, as well as her country of birth, as well as the priority date that will be indicated on the approved I-140. only when the I-485 is filed is the time that she can concurrently file the EAD and AP. until she hasn't filed the I-485, she needs to renew her H1-B which if i remember, is subject to a 6-year cap.

  11. What is a A no. and when should I riceive this.

What can we do after receving the A no.

And do my spouse and kids will also receive the A no. with me.

    Thanks,

if i remember right, you'll get your A# (Alien #) after you submit your I-485, EAD and AP application when your PD becomes current. the A# that will be assigned to you will appear on your EAD and AP cards and it'll be the same A# you'll have when you get your GC.

  12. what's your EB (employment-based) category? from there, you can determine when your priority date (April 2003) will be current.

based on the January Visa Bulletin, EB-2 and EB-3 is at current and Feb 01, 2007 respectively for Mexico.

i think you better get a hold of your lawyer because if you say that your PD is April 2003, then it has been awhile since it has been current (based on the visa bulletin) and you should have already filed your I-485.

    here's the January 2013 Visa Bulletin: http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_5834.html

edit: you mentioned you're a skilled worker, so it'll most probably be EB-3. you can check your approved I-140 so you can see what your category is, but nonetheless, get a hold of your lawyer asap because it seems that based on what your telling us, your PD is already current for quite sometime now.

edit #2: USCIS won't tell you when your PD is current. it is up to you, in this case your lawyer to check everytime the new visa bulletin to see if your PD is current that is why you really need to get a hold of your lawyer asap.

    hope this helps!

  13. the only way to find out is to try. one issue is that you had a F1 visa terminated before so be prepared to answer that if asked. i personally would not have bought the the airline tickets first because it's not a determining factor for the VO to give you a visa.

there's no big or small possibility in getting a b2 visa, its all about you providing sufficient ties to your country that you will go back after your visit to the usa. the VO won't care about the documents you bring that belong to your parents.

    good luck.

  14. Yes we are on H1

So there is no way to optain the work permit faster? :(

none that i know of, besides finding an employer to sponsor a H1-B visa. you mentioned you're in the medical field, maybe you can ask your employer to port your petition from EB3 to EB2 as that category is Current right now per Visa Bulletin.

other than that, you really have to wait for your PD to become current in order to file the I-485, EAD and AP (if needed).
