  1. Hi all,

Getting close to the end, but want to make sure we're doing things correctly before sending in my wife's DS-230. We're translating her koseki using the US Embassy's form located on their website, but are not sure what to put in the second half of the form. Unfortunately, my wife is currently living in Japan and I am in America, so we cannot just sit next to each other and talk it through.

She's going to send me a picture of the koseki tomorrow, but in hopes of saving time, has anyone else used the Embassy's form? What did you put for the second group of Subject, Birth, etc. topics?

Any help is appreciated, and a very big thank you in advance!!

  2. Thanks much, Paul! As for going abroad while waiting for the petition, should I give notice to the USCIS or get permission of some sort before the trip?

Also, I intend to move from where I currently live by summer (within Japan). I called the USCIS and asked them how I could inform them about my change of address. The representative simply said I can call again to tell them. Have you or anyone else had this experience? It just sounds too easy to be true ∑(O_O;), although the long distance phone call is rather hefty on the price.

    Thanks again!(ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

You don't need permission to travel anywhere. If your wife comes to America though, be prepared to show them her return tickets or some form of other proof (rent bill, etc.) that she will not stay.

I have not moved during the process, but thislink should be all you need to change your address and avoid the expensive phone call. (Taken from other posts on VJ, recommended by many who have changed their address.)

  3. Hey all,

My wife and I just received our NOA2, but after discussing some unrelated topics I discovered a problem that may occur with the rest of our process. We had originally planned on her keeping her maiden name in Japan (her home country) and taking my name in America. We didn't think this would be a problem; just fill out all visa forms with my surname. After looking things up on the forums though, it looks as though they will use her passport name for the final visa. Is this correct? And do any of you know a way to avoid this? I know we can change her name once she's here, but that'd be a lot of extra paperwork and fees we're hoping to avoid. Would it be possible to request the visa with my surname?

Does anyone have experience with a similar situation?

    Thanks in advance!
