  1. Hola! Me gustaria saber. Gracias.

  2. Hi! I need some feedback. My wife and I are considering what is best in regards to either keeping her maiden name or taking my last name. The social security card is coming in the mail with her maiden name. What do the Colombian ladies generally due here in the states who have come via a K1 or CR1? I know that in Colombia, ladies do not take on the husband's last name. is that a good reason to keep the same here in the US?

  3. Hi everyone. I just want to let you all know that my Colombian fiancee´s K1 visa was approved yesterday at the embassy. The interview process went smooth, except for a fluke of miscommunication by a young lady at the entrance to the waiting area for visas. She told us to organize the documents and then sit and wait to get her name called. We waited for about an hour and her name was called to approach a window. The person there asked my fiancee why she is late! My fiance told her that she was instructed to wait for her name to be called out. The person at the window told her that was wrong and that she should have come forward to submit the documents. My fiancee experienced some anxiety. She was then told to wait till her name gets called out again. The second time she was called was the interview and everything went smooth after that. A few questions, asked if I spoke Spanish and that was it.

I stayed in Hotel Dona Flor and had a very enjoyable time there. She is a lovely person who has a heart of gold. The hotel was a few minutes walk to the embassy, situated in a quiet neighborhood. I found some great tasting Colombian vegetarian restaurants in the city (I am a veggie). Overall, we had a great experience of Bogata and am always impressed by the big hearts of the Colombian people.

  4. No, if you're pretty sure they already have it, go online, pay the fee and choose an appointment date. Like you said, the instructions package they send you via email is the same you can find online. The US embassy in Bogotá is extremely disorganized when it comes to this stuff and if you wait for them to contact you, you'll be waiting for at least another week, maybe more.

Just one more thing: Was I suppose to send a DS 230 (part 1) attached with my email to the embassy?

  5. No, it's not normal because it only takes about 2-3 business days for the case to arrive at the embassy. So I'm thinking the embassy is just overwhelmed with correspondence and they have no idea what to do. THAT part is normal, believe it or not.

So anyway, there's a thread here on VisaJourney where they track all packages that are sent from the NVC to most embassies. Check it to see if your case was one of the ones they sent over to Bogotá or follow the instructions on the first page to see if you can track it yourself. You will need the date the NVC told you they had sent your case to the embassy, you can't do anything without that date.

According to the NVC it left Nov. 23. I saw the DHL track thread and the package arrived in Bogatá on Nov. 26. So they got it. They just have not given me the official word. I feel like just signing up and paying the fee since the instruction package is online anyway, but I think it is better to wait for the official email from them.

  6. Send the embassy an email with your BGT number to make sure they did receiver your case. If they say that they do have it, then you can go move forward, pay for the visa, make your appointment, etc.

Hi Diana! I sent 3 emails since my file was sent over a week ago from the NVC. Two they answered, that they will info me once they get it. I sent one last night, no reply. Still waiting and quite anxious. Is this normal processing time?

  7. Nothing needs to be translated to English for the interview. Not sure if the birth certificate would be too old or not. My fiancee got her birth certificate the beginning of October and our interview was a month later and we had no problems. Also I wouldn't count on her interview date being in December, but if she is lucky to get an interview date that would be great! The interview dates are usually 2 to 3 weeks out once you pay the visa fee and can schedule. Good luck!

    Okay. Thanks for the reply!
