  1. I have been traveling with my kids back and forth across the border for almost 6 years now. A consent letter is a must.

In the letter we stated that we had shared custody and that he was giving them permission to travel with me to my home. We stated everybody's full names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of travel and when they would be returning to Canada. The letter was also notorize.

I have been told several times by the guards at the US border that it is one of the best consent letters they have come across. The kids also have passports and have their birth certificates tucked inside.

As long as you have the notorize consent letter then you should never have a problem. I never have.

  2. Hi, my name is Bonnie and I was a member here a few years back. I married my US husband 4 years ago.

I have three children, all teens that chose to stay in Canada with their dad then. Unfortunately their dad was killed in a tragic accident 11 days ago. I have been up here ever since and will be here for at least two months until school finishes.

They are still grieving and it's too soon to talk to them about moving to Washington, but I was wondering if anybody knows if we would be able to expidite their case once we get it going? My ex and I had shared custody even though I lived in the US. I am now the sole custodial parent as well as the legal guardian.

I guess what I'm asking for is any kind of help or advise from anyone who may have been through something similar to our case.

Only two of the kids would be coming with me as my oldest starts College this fall.

Thank you in advance for any help anybody my give me. This site was a live saver for me when I was going through the process and everyone here was always kind and helpful.

    Sincerely,

    Bonnie

  3. I have since had to go to my district office and get my passport stamped which extends my residency for a year, my work authorization for a year and allows me to travel. I went to the district office, as advised by the person I talked to on the info line, one week before it expired. They said I would probably not be getting a NOA but three days after I drove 3 hours there and 3 hours back I got an NOA in the mail extending everything for the full year.

While at the District office I asked about my biometrics and he said that if I don't receive a letter in a couple of months to email them, (the district office) requesting one and they will send me one. I think I will probably email them closer to the end of February.

  4. I sent mine in on Nov. 17, they cashed the check Nov. 24 and I never received a NOA. I called the info line and they told me to schedule an info pass appt. with my district office so I did. It was for a week before my card expired. I went there, got my passport stamped with an extention for 1 year on my residency and 6 months on my work authorization. That was on Wed, Jan 17 and then I recieved a NOA from Nebraska the following Saturday. Apparently when I call the info line, they requested a new one be sent. What a waste of time it was driving 3 hours for a 5 minute appointment just to receive a NOA in the mail 3 days later.

    But, better safe than sorry.

I've yet to receive a bio appointment. The immigration officer at the district office told me to email them in a couple of months if I still haven't gotten one and they would schedule one for me.

    Bonnie.

  5. Hi everyone. I haven't posted here in ages.

I got my green card almost 2 years ago and it expires on the 28th of this month. I sent in my application on Nov. 17 and the check was cashed on the 24th but I never recieved an NOA. I called the info line and they confirmed that it had been recieved and a letter should have been sent out but as I said, I never got one.

Anyway, they said I had to make an Info pass appt. with my district office, which I did for this Weds coming up and that they would send out another NOA.

I was wondering if this has happened to anybody else and if you had any problems getting an extention for your authorization to work and travel from the district office?

I have a job I love and plans to go to Canada twice in Feb and don't want to lose either one.

Thanks for any input in advance.

Oh ya, I sent it to NSC.

  6. I have been here in the states without my children now for over a year and a half. They are now 14, 15 and 16. It was the hardest decision of my life to leave them and one I question constantly. I talk to them on the phone every day and am fortunate to see them at least once a month but it still isn't the same. I let my kids decide where they want to be. They of course chose to stay in the only home they've ever known. The most important thing to me was that they stay happy and staying in Canada is what makes them happy. They have so many friends and extra curricular activities there that I would never have pulled them away from. Their schools are wonderful and they generally do well. At there age, these things are most important to them. I love them with all my heart and they do me as well but we still and always will miss each other.

I also stayed in a bad marriage for my kids sake and was there about 10 years too long. I was a stay at home mom for 12 years so was able to give them a wonderful start to life and instill some great values in their lives.

I still cry myself to sleep at night sometimes and my husband doesn't always understand. He has two children 12 and 14 and we don't see eye to eye all the time. We only have them part time so that makes it a little easier on me.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is, I still have a wonderful relationship with my kids. I would love it if they one day decided to move down here but I know in my heart that won't happen. My oldest is considering coming here for college but we'll see.

My heart goes out to you and I completely understand your heartache.

  7. We stayed at the Days Inn when we had our interview in May 04 and it wasn't bad at all. The location was great because it was only 2 blocks down the road from the embassy. I think I paid about 120 bucks but it was worth it because of the location. The hotel also let me leave my belongings there until after the interview. I think it's one of the best places to stay and there are some nice places to walk to while you're there.
