  1. Yes, they had my wife's passport for the one month we were waiting. I'm guessing that not only is the folder packet not ready for pickup, but also that the visa was not printed into the passport. As soon as the visa is printed onto the passport, then the message changes to issued. Afterwards, the folder packet is put together and your husband is called for scheduled pickup. But first the message must change from ready to issued. But i understand your concern as it is awkward that your case still has a ready status after the interview. Hopefully, all will turn out well.

  2. I agree with shayma's message. Check the site that shayma provided in the post above and check if the visa has been issued. The same thing happened to me and it took about a month to receive the call back for pickup. Apparently the site said the visa was issued and the embassy did not have the folder package put together for pickup. All will be well, it is just a matter of time for them to call you.

  3. I know when my brother did a report of birth abroad for his daughter, he had to return like a week later to get the passport along with the report of birth abroad document (similar to a birth certificate). Perhaps nothing is wrong and everything is alright. Maybe she missed this explanation and she is just waiting to hear from them by phone call about when to return for the passport and documents. Hopefully.

  4. This may work for certain countries but may not work in countries that are experiencing problems such as Yemen. From my experience, i have written to my senator multiple times and they did follow up with an inquiry to NVC but to no avail i did not receive an interview time or date. It seems Yemen is heavily backlogged and understaffed due to current conditions. Its still worth a try and Good Luck.

  5. Darnell is correct. I'm speaking from experience. I sent all my physical copies to NVC as they were transitioning to electronic processing for Yemen and they lost my originals for many months. It was such an ordeal. Do not send in your originals!!! Everything is electronic including the police certificate which needs translation and must be registered with the yemeni government.

There are two tracks to follow, the IV and AOS. For the IV packet, you fill out the DS 260 and submit the required civil documents electronically. It seems that you have already done this. For the AOS packet, you pay the IV bill and follow instructions to submit electronically to NVC the AOS supporting documents to the nvcelectronic email. I believe these are two separate paths and you can submit the AOS packet anytime.

After all is said and done and they have reviewed both, your case will be complete and you will join the long wait list as many of us. Good Luck.

  6. I'd first like to thank you all for your assistance and helpful insight.

Livetolove- I am sorry to hear that after waiting so long that your Yemeni friend was rejected at the US embassy in Yemen. It is unfortunate, but this is common at the US Embassy in Yemen as my brothers also had problems years ago when they applied for their wives and encountered insensitive employees, inconsistent processing, and required numerous hard to get visits.

Based on your friends dilemma, I will not hesitate in completing the DS-260 sooner rather than later.

To me, it seems that based on your response as well as the response from H&A&N, the typical wait time is currently approximated at around a year after NVC has completed the case. Unless current conditions change, for us, this would mean approximately another 4 to 5 months which is unfortunate.

My heart to goes out to all those like me during this long and difficult time of wait.

  7. Electronic Visa Immigrant Visa Application required after July 1,2012. If the case was approved prior to this date, a DS-260 must still be completed and the confirmation page must be brought to the interview. See yemen.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html

Is there anyone else whose case was complete for some time and have not yet received an interview date and time from US Embassy in Yemen? Or, is everyone waiting because of backlog? Please provide feedback so i can try to get a consensus if I am the only one in this situation. I'm curious to know if there are others are experiencing the same problem and trying to determine if this is currently the normal situation for everyone that is waiting for Immigrant Visas Interview Scheduling in Yemen.

Update: Spoke to NVC and no help. "They say that the Visa Unit in Yemen is open and sceduling interviews. We are still awaiting scheduling"... 6 months... nothing new, same old song. Perhaps I will try again with a State Senator or congressman.

As usual, thanks for the help and feedback

  8. Thank you for your replies.

It is a CR1 visa and I have contacted my congressman several times. Each of these times the NVC states that they are attempting to schedule an interview date and time for the following month but it will be based on availability. I have spoken to the NVC many times but they seem reluctant to help, they want to rush me off the phone, and are very robotic with telegraphed responses. They just say "the case is complete and we will schedule an appointment for an interview when a time and date is available from the US Embassy Yemen". I will call NVC again and ask to speak to a supervisor and post an update.

Also, we sent the NVC the DS-230 and our case was complete prior to the the July 1,2012 DS-260 filing requirement. So, I asked NVC if I now had to complete the DS-260 online, and if we don't complete it, will it prevent us from receiving an appointment. They said that on their end our case is complete and is awaiting an interview date and time. If i do have to complete the DS-260, I will be notified to do so after an interview is scheduled at the US Embassy in Yemen. But currently it will not stop or delay in receiving an interview date and time as our case is complete and only awaiting scheduling. I wonder if they are right on this as well.

    Again thanks for the help.

  9. Salaam

My case has been complete by NVC since May 2012, and in the 6 months since, I have not received an interview date or time for my spouse. I emailed NVC many times and they only respond by saying that we will receive an interview date and time based on availability. They do not give any additional information as to why the delay and how long we should wait.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is this unusual? How long must we wait?

Any help is appreciated and thank you.
