  1. This is what confuses me: I was told I could get an I-551(?) stamp in my passport to get back into the country prior to leaving, but obviously with the passport also stolen this doesn't seem a likely action.

Am I "allowed" to leave the country on, say, an emergency travel document issued by the UK consulate in Texas, obtain a new passport while in the UK, and then go to the Embassy (US) to obtain this LPR travel document -- knowing that I didn't actually lose the Green Card whilst abroad?

  2. Hi there,

It's been a nightmarish day, but our house was broken into and the safe which contained my green card and my UK passport was successfully broken into :( I now have neither my British passport nor my US Green Card. I've already started the replacement process for the Green Card, however for the UK passport I have no idea what to do! I know I can apply for a new one but it takes at least 6 weeks, and I'm travelling during that time to attend a memorial service for a relative back in the UK

Does anybody have any suggestions whatsoever as to the best course of action here?

    Thanks in advance,

    Nathan

  3. Thanks guys, the nerves are still there but I'm feeling calmer.....Just adding last minute stuff to the binder. I wanted to ask all those who have interviewed before, who did the IO direct most of the questioning to? The immigrant or the petitioner?

Mostly to my Petitioner in our case, though the interview was so short (10 minutes) that honestly there were maybe 7-10 questions in total!

  4. Just received two new notifications:

    1) My I-130 Petition has been approved and the approval letter has been mailed out;

    2) My I-485 Application has been approved and the NOA2 Welcome Letter has been mailed out

So this about ends my process! Without this forum I wouldn't have had a hope in hell of completing all of this by myself. Y'all have been wonderful, and for those who have not yet had their interviews/approvals I wish you the very, very best and will be watching for your positive outcomes!!

  5. YAY! That is super news!! If you can provide the details of your interview - what you took as evidence, questions asked etc... that would be greatly appreciated!

So happy that you can put this first part of the journey behind you and celebrate!

    Thank you!!

I think I already did above (see 4 posts up or so) but if you need anything else let me know :D

    Hoping you'll hear something soon!!!!

  6. ImmemorialN: Congratulations! Our I-130 was approved the next day. Since it's dependent upon the outcome of the AOS, it takes a bit to catch up. Within the next couple of days, you should see the status updated.

Ah, that makes sense indeed. Congratulations to you also, when I initially read your post after the interview my heart was in my stomach! So glad that Dave was approved!!

  7. As a fast overview:

We were called in at exactly 8:00am. The interviewing officer. He was a friendly, chatty gentleman who immediately asked my wife and I how we were doing. On entering his office, we were asked to raise our right hands and we were sworn in. He began to ask us some basic questions: confirmation of our IDs, had we brought the supporting documentation etc. He asked my wife where she worked and if she enjoyed it, and asked for a copy of the W2 (yet never actually took it or looked at it!) He asked if we had our marriage yet (obviously) and went over how much my wife earned and then how much I earnt. He asked to see our photos and a copy of the lease agreement for our house, and commented favourably on our photos, joking about our poses. He asked how we met, and joked that I had followed my wife back to the states. He asked my wife for her birth certificate, and looked over some of the utility bills.

Then he asked us if we had any questions, and I replied no. Then he said he was sending us home to wait for the green card! 2 hours later the status updated to card/document production.

  8. Hi all!

Congratulations to all who have successfully been interviewed! I've been extremely busy with my new job, and finally feeling a true part of life here in sunny Texas.

Our interview is on Tuesday, July 16th - and I have to confess to being beyond nervous. However, I'm hopeful it will be plain sailing! Any tips or advice from those who have already gone through the process?

Hope everyone is doing just wonderfully this weekend!

  9. Glad to see the progress that everyone is making!

I'm highly surprised that my interview is for July 16th, I was told to expect November when I went to an Infopass appointment given how busy the Dallas office was. However, certainly can't complain!

In other news, getting my first State driving licence (whoop!) and settling down into my new job (and our new house) nicely. Just about dying in the Texas heat!
