No problem applying for jobs, but you cannot start work unless you have a work authorised visa, or the employer is willing to sponsor you for your own work visa.

There are no living together/ girlfriend visas in the USA. You could visit on the visa waiver program, but not live in the USA.

If you get legally married, there are some student visas which allow the spouse to come, but you will likely not be allowed to work.

It means we cannot stay as fiance....And do you know if we get married legally of course and he happens to get the H not the J, after I apply for the spouse visa, and I live in US for a certain time period, can I try to apply for jobs or even applying is not an option??

My problem is that my fiance who is African is going to get a contract as a resident doctor in US, but they told him that he is only going to get a type of J visa for 3 years and then after an H. So my question is, how am I going to be able to get a visa and a work permit, can we stay as fiance or do we have to get married? Does anyone have any information regarding this?
