  1. I would think they didn't tell you over the phone because they only provide the bare minimum information over the phone and we're actually throwing a wrench in their regular procedures when we call in. We make all these phone calls so we can stay ahead of the game but I think in some ways we have to be careful. We might know about the situation earlier than we would be notified by email or snail mail but those types of notifications are actually the norm.

Is your case number noted on all the additional documents you sent? That way they will be able to tie them to the correct case I would hope.

Now that I think about it I don't think the case number was on everything :( I rushed to get it done as quickly as possible and missed important stuff. I guess I'm probably better off sending everything again with the cover sheet, making sure I write the case number on every page.

  2. I'm super frustrated. Our I-130 was approved in December and we're at the NVC now. We paid both the fees and sent in both the packages. I waited a week then started calling them every night asking about the case status.

I called Tuesday night and found out that we had a Request for Evidence on the AOS package. I got all the details, made sure I had the right address, then started preparing the documents. After I hung up I thought "Wow, I'm sure glad I called, because they didn't email me about this or anything." I then got to work preparing the evidence and mailed everything off Wednesday afternoon.

THURSDAY MORNING I wake up to find an email from the NVC with a barcoded coversheet that I was supposed to send with my evidence. Now I'm super frustrated because I already sent everything without the coversheet. Do I need to send everything again with the coversheet? Can I send the coversheet separately and hope it works out? Can I forget about the coversheet and hope everything works out as is?

WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME ABOUT IT OVER THE PHONE?!?!?!?!?!?! :(

  3. My wife and I started the visa process in September, the I-130 has been approved, and now we're trying to get through the National Visa Center.

We paid both fees (AOS and IV) and sent in both packages. I tracked the shipping every couple hours because I'm obsessive like that, and both packages have been signed for and received (AOS on January 18, IV on January 22).

My question is what happens now? I called them last night and they told me to allow 20 business days from the day I sent them, and they made it sound like they hadn't been entered into the system yet. I realize there's "no pattern," but what should I expect? Am I allowed to expect anything?

    Thanks in advance ^_^

  4. I'm filing for an immigrant visa for my wife, our I-130 was approved, and now we're in the National Visa Center. The first email we got from them had my wife's name spelled wrong, which appeared to be a simple typo where two keys were pressed instead of one while entering the info, so I didn't think anything of it. I know we spelled it right on all of our documents. I paid the AOS fee today, and when I printed out the cover sheet for the AOS package I noticed that it still had her name spelled wrong. I emailed them about it but still haven't gotten an answer. Will this cause problems in our processing? Or is it not a big deal and I should just send the cover sheet as is?

  5. I haven't tried looking on the site in a couple weeks because I got tired of seeing it say that my case couldn't be found.

Well I just checked and it says the following:

    Post Decision Activity

On December 11, 2012, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

Does this mean no RFEs and we're on to the next phase? I'm completely in shock. My reaction was so messed up that my husband thought something was wrong and I ruined the excitement of the moment because I was freaking out instead of cheering!

I checked for me and both the kids, all have the same note. Am I missing something here or am I good?

I just got mine a couple days ago too :) It means no RFE, and now you're just waiting on the NVC. You'll get another status change telling you your case was sent to the State Department (National Visa Center), and they'll contact you with further instructions. CONGRATS!!!

  6. I know I've been kind of posting a lot recently, but I have a lot of questions, so thank you everyone for the patient answers already. So here's another one:

I received an email about a week ago informing me that our I-130 application was approved and we would be contacted by the NVC with further instructions. It hasn't been a week yet, so I haven't started calling NVC about it yet.

Then just now I received an email informing me that "we shipped this approved case to the Department of State for visa processing. For more information, please contact them directly."

Does this mean they physically sent it to the NVC? Is that what they're referring to? If not, what does it mean and how do I contact them? Is this good news or bad news? :-S

  7. Correct. No EZ or A allowed in this case unless the father is married filing a joint tax return. Then, an I-864a from his wife might be in order.

Income that won't continue from the same source after the move to the USA is not going to count in any event.

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions about this, but what if my legal permanent address is still with my parents, and I was listed as a dependent in his last tax return? Would that justify using an I-864A?

  8. I was a full-time student in America but I put school on hold to move to Mongolia so I could get married, so I don't have a lot of money in savings. The Mongolian economy is such that I don't make enough to meet the criteria to support my wife according to I-864p, so I know I can't file an I-864 by myself. I asked my father to co-sponsor with me. Can we fill out a single I-864A (contract between members of the household) together and that's it? Or do we both need to fill out an I-864? Or do I fill out an I-864 then we fill out the I-864A together?

    Super confused, PLEASE HELP!!!

I think I found the answer. It looks like I'm supposed to fill out an I-864 (anyone know if an I-864EZ is allowed?) and then we fill out the I-864A together.

  10. I'm living abroad with my foreign wife, and they mailed my NOA1 to our Mongolian address because that's what I put on the form, but if anything is addressed to something besides a PO Box it gets returned. So I talked to an ISO (it has to be an ISO) and they said they can change to my Mongolian address, but they advised me to use a USA address and have it forwarded, because it's more reliable. So I now have everything sent to my parents, who scan and email me all of our mail before they actually send the physical copy, just in case :)

  11. when you call into USCIS call center on their Thursday,

ask for casefile status with the first human that answers the phone,

then tell the CSR to be transferred to an ISO

then ask the ISO to go over the casefile status with you, again.

    Good Luck !

I write this cause somethings really wonky. Notice of receipt, the NOA-1 (formletter I-797C, first piece o postal mail) is NOT what you are seeking.

Something definitely seems weird. I just talked to customer service, and they assured me a document was mailed November 8, though they have no idea what document that is because they don't keep records of that. So they recommend waiting a full 30 days from the date of mailing (which would put us to December 8) before calling, at which point we should inform them we haven't received the document.

Someone in a forum referred to talking to USCIS customer service like asking your dog to make you dinner. I think that's pretty accurate. I don't mean any offense, but I've personally never been helped at all anytime I've called. :-/ So I guess I'm stuck in the waiting game for whatever document they may or may not have mailed to me.

  12. This just got more complicated.

I finally got something from USCIS, but it was just my notice of receipt. It was mailed 2 months ago, but they sent it to the wrong address and refused to re-send it until it was returned. Was this the "document" they were referring to? I don't understand why they would change my case status for something that was originally mailed 2 months ago. Should I be expecting something else in the mail?

  13. I say data error.

I called customer service, and they were absolutely no help. They said they mailed something to me, but they don't keep a record of what they mailed, so I just have to wait for it to get there. Is there any chance it could be RFE? Or (thinking optimistically) an interview appointment notice? I know we can't get a visa without biometrics and everything, but I'm still trying to take this as good news. I guess I'll still email them like you said.

  14. Hello everyone, this is my first post, and I hope someone can help.

I am a USC married to a Mongolian and we are living in Mongolia. We filed her I-130 application at the Chicago Lockbox (that's what they recommend for overseas applications with no USCIS office)and it was received September 22 and sent to the California processing center, where the online status changed immediately to "Initial Review." I later was informed by customer service that it was transferred to the National Benefits Center.

I received the following email today:

Application Type: I130 , IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN

Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production

On November 8, 2012 we mailed the document to the address we have on file. You should receive the new document within 30 days. If you do not, or if you move before you get it, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

This step applies to applications that result in an applicant receiving a card (such as a "green card") or other document (such as a naturalization certificate, employment authorization document, travel document, or advance parole). Applications will be in this step from the time the order to produce the card/document is given until the card/document is produced and mailed to the applicant. You can expect to receive your card/document within 30 days of the approval of your application.

She hasn't had an interview or biometrics or anything, and I haven't had a chance to call customer service to ask about it because I'm at work, but I was wondering if anyone knows what this means? Is this a mistake? What document are they sending us? PLEASE HELP!!!
