I got my letter to say I was approved dated January 26 and received my greencard in the mail on Feb 4th

Biometrics on Tuesday, was in and out in less than 15 minutes, had to wait longer for a cab to come pick me up

I have my 3 year Green Card and gave birth to my baby in June 2014 (American Dad & UK Mom) we plan to visit my family in the UK for Christmas and the baby will have an American passport.

Do we need any kind of visa for my husband & daughter to visit the UK?

Do I need to take her birth certificate with me when we travel?

I used the one in the main post office.

Most of the DIY photo machines now take US style passport pictures and say so on the side.

I think I have blundered with my SSN, I didnt go to the office when I arrived as I already have a SSN from many years ago when I worked in the US on a J1 visa so I assumed I would be keeping the same number and would be able to just change the name after the wedding.

I have not been able to log into VJ properly since shortly after I arrived so had become frustrated with it and have now only just been able to use it again. Now I see that I should have gone to change the name on the SSN before my I-94 expiry date which has now sadly passed.

My questions are:

Can I still go to the office and change the name or will this cause me major problems?

Can I still complete the AOS etc forms without SSN if I cannot go & change the name?

Do I need to wait until I have either the EAD or GC to now sort out the SSN?

I only have the one email address so I dont really know why it wont let me update it. I was using the site daily on both my ipad and my work PC prior to moving and never had any problem with my timeline or any other functions.

I am also having problems editing my timeline, I updated when I arrived with the POE date and then did not log in for a few weeks. Now I am unable to update my timeline at all. I have followed your instructions above as well as using your links which takes me to a page with the following:

Im also trying to find out how will be best to ship my personal belongings including close to 1000 books to the US. I think using the post office will be really expensive as I posted one book to the US last week as a gift and it cost me almost as much as the price of the book to post.

I have been looking into lots of different shipping companies and it is so hard to get a straight answer out of them. Theres hidden costs, insurance etc etc and they want to know how many boxes you want to send and what they weigh but I wont have this information until I actually pack the boxes and most companies want to provide the boxes as part of the service so its just a vicious circle lol. They do all however seem to offer mositure resistant packaging for things like books to protect them during the journey. I also plan to line the boxes with bin liners as back up because I am paranoid.

Anyway its looking like its gonna cost a small fortune no matter which company I use so I'm going to have to suck it up and just pick one which seems to offer a fair price and has good testomonials on their websites ☺

I'm 99.9% sure you do not have to pay this fee for a K1 visa as it only applies to immigrant visas which K1 is not. On the London US Embassy website there is a note about this so I would recommend checking the website for the Embassy you have gone through to see if there is something similar.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong though.

Found the text on the UK website, it states as follows:

Effective February 1, 2013, all individuals issued immigrant visas overseas must pay a $165.00 USCIS Immigrant Fee before traveling to the United States. Only prospective adoptive parents whose child(ren) is/are entering the United States under either the Orphan or Hague Process, Iraqi and Afghan special immigrants who were employed by the U.S. government, returning residents, and those issued K visas are exempt from the new fee. The fee must be paid after the immigrant visa has been issued but before the applicant travels to the United States on the visa.

My finance is from the US, I'm UK and I really want to get married in the UK but I don't want to wait a year for the spouse visa. Could I have some sort of ceremony in the UK but not get married, but walk down the aisle etc. and still get the K-1 visa to marry in the US so we can live there.

I think if we don't actually sign marriage forms in the UK it should be ok, but I'm not sure. Any advice would be great.

You are still going to be waiting about a year for a K1 visa anyway. Also most on this website advise that having any kind of ceremony even if it is not legal jeapordises your Visa if you do decide to go down the K1 route. You need to read the guides here fully before making your decision on how best to proceed for you.

I'm pretty sure I have lost everything from back then in various house moves but I'm going to have a look tonight for it to see if I still have it.

If I cannot find it is there anyway that they will be able to retrieve it for me or anywhere that I can contact to find it out

well I did give my attorney 60 pics, plane ticket and 340 pages of skype convo.... we keep racking our brain which is only driving us crazy so we just have to wait and see...

Wehad missed a form so we got an RFE (even though we had an immigartion lawyer check everything was in order ), I wouldnt worry its probably something really simple and once you send what they are asking for they deal with your file right away.

Just realised you already got the letter my computer is acting screwy today! Like I said something really simple (lawyer really should have known about that though )

This has just reminded me that I also have a SSN from when I was in the US on an J visa 11 years ago. I did not keep the little card I was given as never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I would ever be returning to the US on a Fiance visa.

Can anyone advise me how I would be able to retrieve my SSN or would it just be something to mention when I go the the office to apply for one after I arrive in the US?

Apologies if there is an answer to this elsewhere in forums but I promise you I have searched through first but could not see anything.

My medical test is booked for the 11th January 2013 in London, I have never had a medical before so I have no idea what exactly happens other than that they are going to take my blood, do a chest x-ray and discuss my vaccinations/medical history. How long approximately does the medical take (I have to book train tickets) and will it involve stripping off (so I know to wear my best undies) ??

I would really appreciate it if someone could get back to me on this, I'll feel much happier going prepared to my medical than going into the unknown

Just an update. My fiancee waited for me to get back from work and we beleive we got to the bottom of this.

Before we called USCIS I called the NVC to see if they have out case. They do not. Therefore, USCIS must still have it.

My faincee then called them, spoke to another agent who said they will be sending the NOA2 notification next week. As you can probably understand our frustrastion and lies, we did not beleive any of this, so we asked the agent if we can speak to the supervisor.

After 15min of waiting, we finally got hold of a supervisior. Very nice and articulate person. This is what they had to say about our case:

• The reason why we having misleading information from other agents is because they have been outsourcing their workload and thus a line of miscommuncation has occured with our case, which he did apologise for.
  
• Our case was delayed because they needed to have some police background checks on my fiancee (long story short, both parents in prison and now adopted)
  
• Should get the NOA2 around end of December or beginning of January. If not then call back around 3rd January.
  
• They charge my fiancee $170 not because of resending my packet 3 letter, because the agents thought she wanted a copy of the police check (?!?!?!). She will be given a full refund.
  
• The WAC/EAC number the agent gave us was incorrect. Should be getting another copy of our NOA1 soon.
  

Well, at least this story kinda makes sense. Not the good news we were expecting, but hey at least we know where we stand if this story doesn't turn out to be yet another lie. So just have to continue playing the waiting game.

In other news got some more bad news. The chemothrapy fluid in her brain has not gone down enough for the doctors to aloow her to fly over. My family are giving me the emotional blackmail of spending the last xmas with my family (and my sister is gonna give birth to another child on Christmas Day), so really torn on flying over there. I think I will in the end, they have to realise that I have my responsbilities now. She is my family too. Besides I have not seen her for 7 months now, and she will probably need surgery to remove this fluid.

Wow you guys are really having a tough time with it, I hope everything resolves itself shortly and what they have told you is all correct and that you get your noa2 through now quickly. Its shocking how they have mishandled it and misinformed you.

Early Christmas present and definitely the best one!

RFE not as bad as we first feared, they want some passport photos of my fella and a couple of forms filled out. Probably stuff we would have known to include had we known about this site from the beginning. Oh we'll we live and learn. Sending everything they've asked for tomorrow so hopefully won't have delayed us too badly. Incidentally we had a lawyer look at our application to see if we had everything.......glad we decided not to keep him on now.
